Book Ophthalmoscopy Retinoscopy and Refraction Classic Reprint

Download or read book Ophthalmoscopy Retinoscopy and Refraction Classic Reprint written by W. A. Fisher and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Ophthalmoscopy, Retinoscopy and Refraction Ophthalmoscopy is generally considered as a difficult subject. It is one that is not taught either practically or successfully in medical colleges, with the result that scarcely two percent of practitioners coming to the author for postgraduate teaching know how to use the ophthalmoscope. In the authors opinion ophthalmoscopy and the fitting of glasses belong to the general practitioner, and acquirement of the necessary practical and theoretical knowledge is easy, interesting and within the reach of all. This book has been written with the intention of teaching medical practitioners and students the practical use of the ophthalmoscope and retinoscope, with easy application of methods of study, to the detection of diseases of the interior of the eye, and for the fitting of glasses when they are indicated. By mastering the methods here described and equipping himself with the necessary instruments, there is no reason why the general practitioner should not prescribe so as to correct the common errors of refraction and become proficient in the use of the ophthalmoscope. The author desires to express his thanks to the staff of the Chicago Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat College, for valuable suggestions and especially to Dr. J.R. Hoffman and Dr. O.B. Nugent in the preparation of the chapter on Retinoscopy and to Dr. Carl Wagner on the fogging system. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elementary Ophthalmic Optics: Including Ophthalmoscopy Retinoscopy This book is intended to supply the student of ophthalmology with all the Optics which is necessary for an intelligent knowledge of his subject. The proofs are in some cases a little confusing at first reading, but they never demand more than a very elementary acquaintance with mathematics. Even where a trigonometrical nomenclature has been in evitable the meaning of the signs is usually self evident. Special care has been taken to emphasise all important propositions by italics, so that those who do not care. To grapple with the proofs are provided with a readily accessible synopsis of results. A short bibliography of the best books upon the subject has been added, so that the advanced student may know where to look for further information. This book has been carefully crafted to utilize the original images of antique books rather than error-prone OCR text. This also preserves the work of the original typesetters of these classics, unknown craftsmen who laid out the text, often by hand, of each and every page you will read. Their subtle art involving judgment and interaction with the text is in many ways superior and more human than the mechanical methods utilized today, and gave each book a unique, hand-crafted feel in its text that connected the reader organically to the art of bindery and book-making. We think these benefits are worth the occasional imperfection resulting from the age of these books at the time of scanning, and their vintage feel provides a connection to the past that goes beyond the mere words of the text.

Book Ocular Refraction and the Shadow Test Classic Reprint

Download or read book Ocular Refraction and the Shadow Test Classic Reprint written by Frederick Albert Bates and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-27 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Ocular Refraction and the Shadow Test This book is dedicated to the advancement of the science of optometry, and to those willing workers in the field who are ambitious for its advancement and who are laboring to that end. The correction of errors of refraction of the eye with lenses is a noble work, involving the betterment of conditions under which mankind is enabled to enjoy the most valuable of the five senses, viz., sight. Without glasses many would never know the beauties of our world, while others would suffer ceaseless misery. The resources of optical science have bean greatly improved, its practitioners have acquired more knowledge and skill, and its value is becoming more appreciated. The limit of the possibilities of the work have not been reached, however. and this should stimulate individual research and study. There arc rewards yet to be gained. If this book proves to be a help to any. and stimulates new thoughts and ideas, it will not have failed in its mission. Download or read book Ophthalmology and Ophthalmoscopy written by Hermann Schmidt-Rimpler and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-24 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Ophthalmology and Ophthalmoscopy: For Practitioners and Students of Medicine This work principally subserves didactic purposes, and is in tended to present modern ophthalmology in a form which will facilitate its reception. This requires above all a distinct separ ation - which should also be apparent externally - Oi the different divisions and subdivisions, and a gradually advancing presentation Of the subject, that assumes as little as possible. This explains the introduction of the optical and anatomico-physiological data which are necessary to the comprehension Of the subject. This appeared to me to be especially important in the chapter on errors of refraction and accommodation, whose mastery is impossible without such preliminary knowledge. As I know from experience the widespread antipathy of physicians to mathematics - it is difficult to determine whether this is congenital or acquired - I have reduced it to such a homeopathic dose, that even the student who most dreads calculations and formulae can tolerate it without bad efiects.
