This book was released on 2017-05-23 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Clinical Manual of Diseases of the Eye: Including a Sketch of Its Anatomy This book has not been written because the author supposed, for an instant, that there were not already in the English tongue many excellent treatises on diseases of the eye. It is presented to the profession because I have not deemed that the debt I owe to it could be even approximately satisfied, nor my own reputation as a teacher, whatever that may be, justly set tled, unless I presented in a permanent and accessible form some of the results, with their personal coloring, of my long experience both in hospital and private practice, in ophthalmic disease and therapeutics. Book Relations of Diseases of the Eye to General Diseases

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Relations of Diseases of the Eye to General Diseases: Forming a Supplementary Volume to Every Manual and Text-Book of Practical Medicine and Ophthalmology The point of view is from the side of the general practitioner, who having in hand a particular case, say for example of tabes' dor salis, is put into possession of the various eye_ lesions liable to occur; Whether these be present or absent he is prepared to understand the ocular phenomena. In fact, the book serves the valuable purpose of a cross index between the general field of medicine and an impor tant specialty. On the other hand, the oculist finds his range of view enlarged and is made to realize in a more adequate degree, that local disease may depend upon and be the signal of a lesion of some re mote organ or of a constitutional affection. He is made to appreciate the need of wide observation of symptoms, and-is kept in touch with the pathology and therapeutics of medicine at large. The editor has added little to the author's pages and has not taken upon himself the work of translation. Book Ophthalmic Literature Vol 3

Download or read book Ophthalmic Literature Vol 3 written by Edward Jackson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-14 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Ophthalmic Literature, Vol. 3: May, 1913 This is one of the series of works issued as a system of ophthalmic practice. And edited by Walter L. Pyle. It therefore corresponds in form to the earlier volumes, Darier's Ophthalmic Therapeutics and the Pathology and Bacteriology of Collins and Mayou. The con sideration of ocular diseases from this standpoint is an extremely practical one. It is symptoms that are first presented to the practic ing ophthalmologist. And from them he must make his advance to a scientific understanding of the pathology. The practical relations and the therapeutics of the case. To learn such a line of thinking. From obvious symptoms to all that they imply, is to become a practical ophthalmologist. This is quite different from studying the phenomena of disease, as they are usually presented in systematic text-books or lectures. Most men that have gotten their knowledge thus organized on the practical basis have accomplished it by watching the daily practice and following the lines of thought of some clinical master. But there is every reason why this should be supplemented by a systematic treatise arranged on these lines. There are many books on medical diagnosis, but so far as we know the claim made in the preface that there is no other separate volume in any language devoted exclusively to ocular semiology is strictly in accordance with the facts. English reading students are to be congratulated that a work of the kind has come from a clinical master like Dr. Beard. No part of it is given to the explanation of instruments and methods of diagnosis. The student must have mas tered the usual methods of ophthalmic examination and made himself familiar with the symptoms dealt with, to get the full benefit of this treatise. The practising Ophthalmologist, even of large experience, will find it of great value in improving his own methods of clinical ex amination and ways of thinking about what he sees. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Homoeopathic Therapeutics in Ophthalmology The systematic arrangement of the materia medica will facilitate ready reference. Drug characteristics are given because with their aid a much more successful prescription may be made. This book is small, the remedies comparatively few, because only reliable indications have been given. Quality has been preferred to quantity. To most of the remedies in our materia medica have there been attributed one or more eye symptoms but, as yet, without confirmation.
