Book excerpt: 'When I was a small child...(my) imagination was fired by the age-old mystery of that Lost City of Ophir which furnished gold to the temple of Suleiman and as the years passed, I formed an ambition to discover it... In this fascinating book, the author reveals the unfolding story of his life-long quest to find Ophir. First joining the Royal Navy and then embarking toward China, the author begins a series of adventurers that propel him towards his goal: 'I have learnt that Ophir and the Gold of Ophir represent far more than a lost city and a tale of romance. The lost lands of Ophir may awaken the whole of the Middle East; they may bring prosperity to a poverty-stricken peninsula that is larger than India.'
Download or read book Oaf in Ophir written by Daniel G Linsteadt and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A highlight of every summer for Emory and his little sister, Faye, was their special annual visit to their grandmother. At Babas house, the kids played by the streams, ate blackberries, watched deer, and ran through the woods to their hearts desire. This summer, Emory was particularly intrigued by the rumor of a magical Oaf living near Baba after discovering his dads Ophir newspaper clippings. Emory was alert as he explored the streams and wandered through the woods. A flash of light up the hillside began the magical summer he hoped for. A voice floating through the air, the sound of wood twisting in the trees, and a glimpse of a ragged piece of cloth were the first hints of the Oaf. Baba was delighted by Emorys adventures and urged him to offer a sandwich along with a note to the mysterious being who was revealing itself to Emory. The Oaf revealed his magic with nature after Emory was mysteriously protected from a mountain lion attack. Baba finally shared her encounters with the irresistible Oaf and his ways in the woods. Tantalizing encounters ensued when Faye arrived and the Oaf slowly befriended the children. The Oaf helped them discover their own personal relationship with nature and their own innate gifts of magic with the plants, trees, and wildlife. The elusive Oaf sparks the imagination, leaving the reader wishing for more! Captivating from beginning to end, Linsteadt weaves an enchanting lyrical tale of a familys search for innocence and wisdom through their connection to nature. Download or read book Ophir written by Pamela Atkinson and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-07 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We were young. We were ruthless. We were gorgeous. We were hired. Drama junkies in the tradition of Balzac, we spent ourselves on romantic and sexual liaisons, often questionable, as we gloried in the richness and perversity of the young and the spoiled. We victimized, often self-destructed, and generally sought to create chaos out of order. Just because. Perhaps here you will meet yourself (or find out what your parents were up to), and certainly a number of our old enemies have not escaped scathing presentation, in this bodice ripper set during the good old bull market days of the mid 1980s. Raised in Vancouver, Canada, Pamela Atkinson was educated at Queens University and the University of British Columbia. Pamela has written short fiction, and for the theatre.

Download or read book The One State Condition written by Ariella Azoulay and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the start of the occupation of Palestinian territories in 1967, Israel's domination of the Palestinians has deprived an entire population of any political status or protection. But even decades on, most people speak of this rule—both in everyday political discussion and in legal and academic debates—as temporary, as a state of affairs incidental and external to the Israeli regime. In The One-State Condition, Ariella Azoulay and Adi Ophir directly challenge this belief. Looking closely at the history and contemporary formation of the ruling apparatus—the technologies and operations of the Israeli army, the General Security Services, and the legal system imposed in the Occupied Territories—Azoulay and Ophir outline the one-state condition of Israel/Palestine: the grounding principle of Israeli governance is the perpetuation of differential rule over populations of differing status. Israeli citizenship is shaped through the active denial of Palestinian citizenship and civil rights. Though many Israelis, on both political right and left, agree that the occupation constitutes a problem for Israeli democracy, few ultimately admit that Israel is no democracy or question the very structure of the Israeli regime itself. Too frequently ignored are the lasting effects of the deceptive denial of the events of 1948 and 1967, and the ways in which the resulting occupation has reinforced the sweeping militarization and recent racialization of Israeli society. Azoulay and Ophir show that acknowledgment of the one-state condition is not only a prerequisite for considering a one- or two-state solution; it is a prerequisite for advancing new ideas to move beyond the trap of this false dilemma.
Download or read book Beyond Ophir written by Jim Lanier and published by Publication Consultants. This book was released on 2013-07-05 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jim Lanier had a good life going: a great family, a successful pathologist, a sometimes singer. Then he went to the dogs, ran the Iditarod in 1979, and has never recovered. With that ‘79 race as the book’s backbone, Jim tells its tale—entertaining, exciting, occasionally informative, and mostly the truth. From the bustle of metropolitan Anchorage to Front Street in Nome, it’s no how to do. If anything, it’s a how not to—how not to prepare, how not to train, how not to run. On the other hand, it’s how not to give in to the urge to quit when the going gets tough, in life and in this metaphorical Iditarod.
