Download or read book Operators of Class C 0 with Spectra in Multiply Connected Regions written by Adele Zucchi and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1997 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present paper the author studies the analogue of the class [italic capital]C0 within a class of operators having a functional calculus based on the algebra of bounded holomorphic functions in a finitely connected domain with an analytic boundary. The latter class consists of the operators having the closure of the domain as a spectral set and having no normal direct summands with spectra contained in the boundary of the domain. (If the domain is the disk the preceding class reduces to the class of completely nonunitary contractions.) The basic properties known for the case of the disk, including the model theory, are established. The extension, even the mere construction of the functional calculus, is not routine, in part because it is unknown whether the analogue of Sz.-Nagy's dilation theorem is true in the author's multiply connected setting.
Download or read book Algebraic Structure of Pseudocompact Groups written by Dikran N. Dikranjan and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fundamental property of compact spaces - that continuous functions defined on compact spaces are bounded - served as a motivation for E. Hewitt to introduce the notion of a pseudocompact space. The class of pseudocompact spaces proved to be of fundamental importance in set-theoretic topology and its applications. This clear and self-contained exposition offers a comprehensive treatment of the question, When does a group admit an introduction of a pseudocompact Hausdorff topology that makes group operations continuous? Equivalently, what is the algebraic structure of a pseudocompact Hausdorff group? The authors have adopted a unifying approach that covers all known results and leads to new ones, Results in the book are free of any additional set-theoretic assumptions.

Download or read book Time Dependent Subdifferential Evolution Inclusions and Optimal Control written by Shouchuan Hu and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume studies multivalued evolution equations driven by time-dependent subdifferential operators and optimal control problems for such systems. The formulation is general enough to incorporate problems with time varying constraints. For evolution inclusions, existence relaxation and structural results for the solution set are proved. For optimal control problems, a general existence theory is developed, different forms of the relaxed problem are introduced and studied, well-posedness properties are investigated and the precise relation between the properties of relaxability and well-posedness is established. Various examples of systems which fit in the abstract framework are analysed.

Download or read book Matching of Orbital Integrals on GL 4 and GSp 2 written by Yuval Zvi Flicker and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1999 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The trace formula is the most powerful tool currently available to establish liftings of automorphic forms, as predicted by Langlands principle of functionality. The geometric part of the trace formula consists of orbital integrals, and the lifting is based on the fundamental lemma. The latter is an identity of the relevant orbital integrals for the unit elements of the Hecke algebras. This volume concerns a proof of the fundamental lemma in the classically most interesting case of Siegel modular forms, namely the symplectic group Sp(2). These orbital integrals are compared with those on GL(4), twisted by the transpose inverse involution. The technique of proof is elementary. Compact elements are decomposed into their absolutely semi-simple and topologically unipotent parts also in the twisted case; a double coset decomposition of the form H\ G/K--where H is a subgroup containing the centralizer--plays a key role.

This book was released on 1998 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The invariant integrals of spherical functions over certain infinite families of unipotent orbits in symplectic groups over a p-adic field of characteristic zero are explicitly calculated. The results are then put into a conjectural framework that predicts for split classical groups which linear combinations of unipotent orbital integrals are stable distributions. No index. Download or read book Algebraic and Strong Splittings of Extensions of Banach Algebras written by William G. Bade and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1999 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, the authors address the following: Let $A$ be a Banach algebra, and let $\sum\:\ 0\rightarrow I\rightarrow\frak A\overset\pi\to\longrightarrow A\rightarrow 0$ be an extension of $A$, where $\frak A$ is a Banach algebra and $I$ is a closed ideal in $\frak A$. The extension splits algebraically (respectively, splits strongly) if there is a homomorphism (respectively, continuous homomorphism) $\theta\: A\rightarrow\frak A$ such that $\pi\circ\theta$ is the identity on $A$. Consider first for which Banach algebras $A$ it is true that every extension of $A$ in a particular class of extensions splits, either algebraically or strongly, and second for which Banach algebras it is true that every extension of $A$ in a particular class which splits algebraically also splits strongly. These questions are closely related to the question when the algebra $\frak A$ has a (strong) Wedderburn decomposition. The main technique for resolving these questions involves the Banach cohomology group $\cal H2(A,E)$ for a Banach $A$-bimodule $E$, and related cohomology groups. Later chapters are particularly concerned with the case where the ideal $I$ is finite-dimensional. Results are obtained for many of the standard Banach algebras $A$.
Download or read book The Riemann Problem for the Transportation Equations in Gas Dynamics written by Wancheng Sheng and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1999 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, the one-dimensional and two-dimensional Riemann problems for the transportation equations in gas dynamics are solved constructively. In either the 1-D or 2-D case, there are only two kinds of solutions: one involves Dirac delta waves, and the other involves vacuums, which has been merely discussed so far. The generalized Rankine-Hugoniot and entropy conditions for Dirac delta waves are clarified with viscous vanishing method. All of the existence, uniqueness and stability for viscous perturbations are proved analytically

Book excerpt: This book provides a unified treatment for the study of the existence of equilibria of abstract economics in topological vector spaces from the viewpoint of Ky Fan minimax inequalities, which strongly depend on his infinite dimensional version of the classical Knaster, Kuratowski and Mazurkiewicz Lemma (KKM Lemma) in 1961. Studied are applications of general system versions of minimax inequalities and generalized quasi-variational inequalities, and random abstract economies and its applications to the system of random quasi-variational inequalities are given.
Download or read book Abelian Galois Cohomology of Reductive Groups written by Mikhail Borovoi and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, a new function H 2/ab (K, G) of abelian Galois cohomology is introduced from the category of connected reductive groups G over a field K of characteristic 0 to the category of abelian groups. The abelian Galois cohomology and the abelianization map ab1: H1 (K, G) -- H 2/ab (K, G) are used to give a functorial, almost explicit description of the usual Galois cohomology set H1 (K, G) when K is a number field
