Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Navy is ready to execute the Nation's tasks at sea, from prompt and sustained combat operations to every-day forward-presence, diplomacy and relief efforts. We operate worldwide, in space, cyberspace, and throughout the maritime domain. The United States is and will remain a maritime nation, and our security and prosperity are inextricably linked to our ability to operate naval forces on, under and above the seas and oceans of the world. To that end, the Navy executes programs that enable our Sailors, Marines, civilians, and forces to meet existing and emerging challenges at sea with confidence. Six priorities guide today's planning, programming, and budgeting decisions: (1) maintain a credible, modern, and survivable sea based strategic deterrent; (2) sustain forward presence, distributed globally in places that matter; (3) develop the capability and capacity to win decisively; (4) focus on critical afloat and ashore readiness to ensure the Navy is adequately funded and ready; (5) enhance the Navy's asymmetric capabilities in the physical domains as well as in cyberspace and the electromagnetic spectrum; and (6) sustain a relevant industrial base, particularly in shipbuilding.

Book Service Families Accomodation

  • Publisher : The Stationery Office
  • Release : 2009
  • ISBN : 9780102954623
  • Pages : 72 pages

Download or read book Service Families Accomodation written by Great Britain. National Audit Office and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2009 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has over 50,000 properties across the United Kingdom, providing housing for around 42,000 Service personnel and their families. A survey has revealed that, while 52 per cent of Service families feel their accommodation is in a good condition, 31 per cent are dissatisfied with the condition of their property. The MOD is currently undertaking a programme to upgrade Service family accommodation. In the last two years it has upgraded some 1,700 properties and will continue upgrading an average of 800 per year. At the current rate of upgrade, it would take some 20 years before all properties reached condition 1 (the highest of four standards). Each year there are over 20,000 Service family moves. Families were satisfied with the move out process, but less satisfied when moving in to a new property, with complaints about the state of carpets, the general condition, the standard of cleaning. Usually the accommodation is not seen before moving in, and personal family circumstances could be taken more into account when accommodation is allocated. The repairs service, run on a single contract in England and Wales, also came in for criticism from families. The MOD's provision of housing reflects better value for money than renting from the open market, but the current housing stock has been acquired over many years and in many cases is in the wrong location to meet demand. There is a shortage of properties for larger families. But the MOD also has 9,170 vacant properties. This is 18 per cent of its housing stock (against a target of 10 per cent), and vacant properties cost an average £4,200 each per year.

As an integral part of that endeavor, "AU-18, Space Primer", provides to the joint war fighter an unclassified resource for understanding the capabilities, organizations, and operations of space forces. This primer is a useful tool both for individuals who are not "space aware"-unacquainted with space capabilities, organizations, and operations-and for those who are "space aware," especially individuals associated with the space community, but not familiar with space capabilities, organizations, and operations outside their particular areas of expertise. It is your guide and your invitation to all the excitement and opportunity of space. Last published in 1993, this updated version of the Space Primer has been made possible by combined efforts of the Air Command and Staff College's academic year 2008 "Jointspacemindedness" and "Operational Space" research seminars, as well as select members of the academic year 2009 "Advanced Space" research seminar. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All organizations, institutions, business processes, markets and strategies have one aim in common: the reduction of transaction costs. This aim is pursued relentlessly in practice, and has been perceived to bring about drastic changes, especially in the recent global market and the cyber economy. This book analyzes and describes “transactions” as a model, on the basis of which organizations, institutions and business processes can be appropriately shaped. It tracks transaction costs to enable a scientific approach instead of a widely used “state-of-the-art” approach, working to bridge the gap between theory and practice. This open access book analyzes and describes “transactions” as a model...

Concerned about the slow pace of demining, the Office of Science and Technology asked RAND to assess potential innovative technologies being explored and to project what funding would be required to foster the development of the more promising ones.
