Download or read book Open Blind Eyes written by Rachel Timothy and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2020-11-24 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Open Blind Eyes brings you face to face with the reality of sex trafficking in America through the true story viewpoint of a girl from a small town. Rachel was only nine years old when she was first approached by a perpetrator who was known to her as a teacher and coach. She goes into detail of the process of being groomed and how the evil of what was happening to her in the dark remained unseen by everyone around her. She describes how she coped for so many years by blocking out the memories only to have them resurface when she was an adult with a family of her own. Rachel had no idea that when she would pursue justice it would end up putting her right back in the world of trafficking. It wasn’t until her church family saw the signs and believed what she was saying that she was able to start the process of finding freedom. Rachel shows her faith and love of God during the highs and lows of her journey and she prays for each person who reads her story. That their eyes will be opened and their actions will lead us toward ending sex trafficking in our world.

Book Eyes Wide Open

Download or read book Eyes Wide Open written by Isaac Lidsky and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-03-14 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this New York Times bestseller, Isaac Lidsky draws on his experience of achieving immense success, joy, and fulfillment while losing his sight to a blinding disease to show us that it isn’t external circumstances, but how we perceive and respond to them, that governs our reality. Fear has a tendency to give us tunnel vision—we fill the unknown with our worst imaginings and cling to what’s familiar. But when confronted with new challenges, we need to think more broadly and adapt. When Isaac Lidsky learned that he was beginning to go blind at age thirteen, eventually losing his sight entirely by the time he was twenty-five, he initially thought that blindness would mean an end to his early success and his hopes for the future. Paradoxically, losing his sight gave him the vision to take responsibility for his reality and thrive. Lidsky graduated from Harvard College at age nineteen, served as a Supreme Court law clerk, fathered four children, and turned a failing construction subcontractor into a highly profitable business. Whether we’re blind or not, our vision is limited by our past experiences, biases, and emotions. Lidsky shows us how we can overcome paralyzing fears, avoid falling prey to our own assumptions and faulty leaps of logic, silence our inner critic, harness our strength, and live with open hearts and minds. In sharing his hard-won insights, Lidsky shows us how we too can confront life's trials with initiative, humor, and grace.

Book Blind Man s Bluff A Memoir

Download or read book Blind Man s Bluff A Memoir written by James Tate Hill and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2021-08-03 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New York Times Editors' Choice A Washington Independent Review of Books Favorite Book of 2021 A writer’s humorous and often-heartbreaking tale of losing his sight—and how he hid it from the world. At age sixteen, James Tate Hill was diagnosed with Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy, a condition that left him legally blind. When high-school friends stopped calling and a disability counselor advised him to aim for C’s in his classes, he tried to escape the stigma by pretending he could still see. In this unfailingly candid yet humorous memoir, Hill discloses the tricks he employed to pass for sighted, from displaying shelves of paperbacks he read on tape to arriving early on first dates so women would have to find him. He risked his life every time he crossed a street, doing his best to listen for approaching cars. A good memory and pop culture obsessions like Tom Cruise, Prince, and all things 1980s allowed him to steer conversations toward common experiences. For fifteen years, Hill hid his blindness from friends, colleagues, and lovers, even convincing himself that if he stared long enough, his blurry peripheral vision would bring the world into focus. At thirty, faced with a stalled writing career, a crumbling marriage, and a growing fear of leaving his apartment, he began to wonder if there was a better way.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What kind of book is the Bible? Is it a rulebook or a guidebook for moral living? Is it a history book or a book filled with fascinating (and sometimes fantastic) stories? Did humans write the Bible or did God somehow speak a perfect message that the authors transcribed? Many people have asked these questions about the nature of this beautiful, odd, comforting, disturbing book the church calls its “Holy Scripture.” Charlotte Vaughan Coyle shares her own journey to make sense of the Bible in this read-through-the-Bible-in-a-year project. She discovered that the crucial work of asking hard questions and even arguing with the Bible revealed the Scriptures to be a symphony of polyphonic voices, a work of art that paints an alternative vision of reality, a complex novel-like story unavoidably embedded in its own culture and time, and yet able to give witness to the God beyond history who has acted (and continues to act) within history. With the heart of a pastor and the passion of a preacher, Rev. Coyle invites seekers and students (both churched and un-churched) to strap on their scuba gear and join her for a deeper dive beneath the surface of this immense, colorful, mysterious world of the Bible.

Book excerpt: Jesus! Have mercy on me! The blind beggar cried out these words to Jesus over two thousand years ago. And what did Jesus do? He healed the beggars blindness! We may not all be physically blind, but we all are born spiritually blind. God does not want us to be in this state, and he offers to us a solution: grace, mercy, and salvation that will open our eyes to the truth of the world and ourselves. We cannot be healed from our blindness without the loving touch of Jesus. He longs to put His hand on our eyes and say, Your faith has made you well. He cannot do this, though, unless you are willing to surrender to Him. As the beautiful song, Amazing Grace says, I once was lost, but now Im found. Was blind, but now I see. Are you willing to cry out, Jesus! Have mercy on me?

Book excerpt: Are you ready to stop blaming people and expose the real culprit causing the havoc in your life? 2 Corinthians 10:4 states, " The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds." In order to succeed in this world, we must fight battles in the spirit and not the flesh. Things are never the way they look in the flesh, there is always a hidden agenda; and in order to expose that agenda and gain victory, we must expose the enemy! Open the Eyes of the Blind does exactly what the title says, it exposes Satan for the liar and manipulator that he is! The real life testimony of Tabitha Sheppard, Open the Eyes of the Blind recounts how God delivered her from a cycle of disappointment, defeat, sadness, hurt and bad relationships, and how He can do the same for you.

Book Sight and Blindness in Luke Acts

Download or read book Sight and Blindness in Luke Acts written by Chad Hartsock and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2008-05-31 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ancient world often thought in terms of physiognomics—the idea that character can be discerned by studying outward, physical features. That physical descriptions carry moral freight in characterization has been largely missed in modern biblical scholarship, and this study brings that to the forefront. Specifically, this is a study of one particular physical marker—blindness. When we look at Greco-Roman literature, a kind of literary topos begins to emerge, a set of assumptions that ancient audiences would typically make when encountering blind characters. Luke-Acts makes use of such a topos in a way that becomes programmatic, serving as a kind of interpretive key to Luke-Acts that is generally unnoticed in modern scholarship.
