Book excerpt: The kindly, white-heaired old fellow with the bushy mustache once called "the world's grandfather," Albert Einstein was easily the twentieth century's most remarkable and revered man of science. His leaps of imagination changed forever the way we look at the universe. He gained international celebrity by the very force of his personality, his wry sense of humor (often at the expense of himself), and his limitless humanity. The mind of Albert Einstein bulged at the seams not only with mathematics and physics but also with an insatiable curiosity about life itself. His wide-ranging observations and opinions about the nature of life and the world--not to mention the life and world of nature--are rich in insight, wit, and wisdom. His vision also us a unique opportunity to see ourselves. His thoughts are treasures in small packages; taken as a whole, they offer images and ideas of what we are and what it is possible to be.

Book Reinventing the IT Department

Download or read book Reinventing the IT Department written by Terry White and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Reinventing the Information Technology Department' is both anecdotal and informal but deals with a subject which is of vital interest to Chief Information Officers and IT Managers, addressing questions such as: * How does the IT department keep pace with business change? * How do we provide stable and responsive IT platforms? * How do we add recognised value to the organisation? * How do I reinvent my department? * How do I get onto the board? It offers an alternative view of the new roles of the in-house IT function and proposes a rethink about IT services within companies, suggesting a self-help approach to redefining/reinventing in-house IT for CIOs. The author explains that new modes of business thinking and operation are essential if a company is to succeed in the near future and in light of this covers topics such as self-organising systems, knowledge management, multi-stakeholder perspectives, and empowerment initiatives in relation to the overall business and in particular the IT function. Each chapter contains implementation templates for the readers to take themselves through the repositioning or reengineering of the IT function and their own departments.

Book excerpt: Because there are codes, intellectuals and artists from all parts of the world have been in conflict from time immemorial till today. They ponder on how to answer questions spurred by the progressing tendencies toward the emancipation of humans from frailties, and mysteries that remain unresolved till today. Some predict a less conflicting future, the Anti-Christ, others fear the loss of the cultural diversity of humanity, and some express bias toward secularity and religion. Eventually, at the point where major ideological conflicts gave rise to todays controversies, a new fire of ideology flared up in Dotman, and he shares with us here where one would not have expected, at border lines not only between every single human today, but where the religions foundations of cultures are considered. In the midst of beliefs, labeled esoteric, beyond ones own cultural world, home, knowledge, and ingenuity, he found a powerful incident knowledge that is so anomalous and converging and so inspiring, more than any right from time he has so far lived in the world. This zero is structured to use the works of the geniuses, but care was taken in the design of the zero so that codes were identified and decoded with tools created in the zero.

Book The Lives and Extraordinary Adventures of Fifteen Tramp Writers from the Golden Age of Vagabondage

Download or read book The Lives and Extraordinary Adventures of Fifteen Tramp Writers from the Golden Age of Vagabondage written by Ian Cutler and published by Feral House. This book was released on 2020-02-25 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The combined events of the end of the American Civil War in 1865, the first transcontinental railroad opening in 1869, and the financial crash of 1873, found large numbers—including thousands of former soldiers well used to an outdoor life and tramping—thrown into a transient life and forced to roam the continent, surviving on whatever resources came to hand. For most, the life of the hobo was born out of necessity. For a few it became a lifestyle choice. Some of the latter group committed their adventures to print, both autobiographical and fictional, and together with their British and Irish counterparts, whose wanderlust was fueled by an altogether different genesis, they account for the fifteen tramp writers whose stories and ideas are the subject of this book. The lives of some, like Jack Everson, Jack Black and Tom Kromer, are told in a single volume, others, like Morley Roberts and Stephen Graham, have eighty and fifty published works to their credit respectively. Some remain completely unknown and their books are long since out of print, others, like Trader Horn and Jim Tully, were Hollywood celebrities. Others yet, such as Black, Tulley, Horn, Bart Kennedy, Leon Ray Livingstone, and Jack London, had their stories immortalized in film.

Book Wise Sayings

  • Author : Walter W. Moore
  • Publisher : AuthorHouse
  • Release : 2012-01-03
  • ISBN : 1467870218
  • Pages : 190 pages

Download or read book Wise Sayings written by Walter W. Moore and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-01-03 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The wise-sayers say you are what you think. If that's so, then the body is merely the transporter for the mind. The body does not last but the mind can. And that possibility could explain why so many of the ancient sayings apply to the today's world and possibly eternity. Take Aesop. He lived 620 - 560 BC. He said No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. This is still a wise saying some 2600 years later. Back then the memory system was mental. Today, we have computers and a digital memory system. But our present society is built on a procession of thinking from many years past. The situation is succinctly expressed by William Feather (1889 - 1981) who said, The wisdom of the wise and the experience of the ages are preserved into perpetuity by a nation's proverbs, fables, folk sayings and quotations. Looking to the future, we appear to be poised for some great things. Preparing for the future, Walt Disney (1901 - 1966) said, Crowded classrooms and half-day sessions are a tragic waste of our greatest national resource --- the minds of our children and Nicholas Zaharis (1921 - ) said Education is expensive but ignorance is more expensive. The intention of this manuscript is to educate, inspire and amuse. It is based on a thousand quotations by 400 astute individuals. Their occupations and claim to fame are discussed briefly. Many had multiple occupations. Most were philosophers, authors and writers. The author visualizes the contents as a source of ideas for advertising programs, for casual conversations and for meditative reading and thinking. It is sort of a table-top book that can be opened and read at random.
