The biggest stars write bestselling books, grab high ratings on Christian television, and even preach. Bowler offers a sympathetic and revealing portrait of megachurch women celebrities, showing how they must balance the demands of celebrity culture and conservative, male-dominated faiths. Book Change How You See Not How You Look

Download or read book Change How You See Not How You Look written by J. Alison Hilber and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CELEBRATION: That's the goal. To find ourselves respecting, rejoicing and praising our bodies in all their glory, no matter what size, shape, age or ability we are blessed to be. This requires lightness and depth, inside and outside joy, a longing to know and accept ourselves just as we are, and a belief that all we have to do is remember that we are worthy of love and capable of giving it unconditionally to ourselves. This book is offered as a guide to that journey. This process is not about figuring out why we look the way we do. There are no strategies here for dieting or for how to manage our emotions so we don't eat or insinuations that being fat is about not loving ourselves. Emotional issues can sometimes lead to excess fat (meaning above your natural weight) and many of us use food as a drug. But being shamed and feeling guilty only compounds those issues. In most cases, being fat is just another way to be. This process is about changing the way we see, not the way we look. Once our self-view changes, the issues regarding our emotional relationship with food will naturally adjust to their healthiest place, because self-care will no longer require will power. Self-care only requires self-love. Scientists say that if 11 per cent of a society's members change their mind, there will be a cultural shift. Eleven per cent is very attainable. But it must begin inside each one of us, something I will be repeating throughout the book. Your mind must chan≥ your energy in the world must shift;your inner light must shine. Then, and only then, can you hope to have any influence on the larger reality. But, first things first. This is a book about choices and the tools to help you make the ones best suited to you. There is no reason that you can't love yourself no matter what you look like and make choices only as they suit your own higher purpose. It is from this center of self-loving energy that you will manifest your true self in the Universe. Finally, it is important to understand that this book is not about big bodies being better than small bodies. It is about small bodies not being better than big bodies. It is about no bodies being better than any other bodies. And though the emphasis may seem to be on size, please be assured that no matter what issues you have about your appearance, whether it be weight, age, facial hair, baldness, or bowed legs, this book can help you see through different eyes and find your true inner vision. Change How You See, Not How You Look provides Power Tools at the end of every chapter...little hints, affirmations, rituals, ways of helping you deal with the culture, the media, belief systems, relationships, spirituality, the body/mind/spirit split, and healing. There are tools to deconstruct what you believe about women in general and about yourself in particular, and tools to help you rebuild, remember, and restore the integrity and inherent beauty of your body and your spirit so you can begin joyfully celebrating every part of your being.

Book My School

    Book Details:
  • Author : Lesley Scanlon
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2014-12-17
  • ISBN : 113459061X
  • Pages : 194 pages

Download or read book My School written by Lesley Scanlon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-12-17 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Education issues feature almost daily in print media, online, on the radio and on television, much of which focuses on the perceived deficits of students and teachers. Singled out for special attention are low socio-economic status (SES) schools which are frequently characterised by teachers and students with little investment in learning and teaching. Yet within this plethora of educational discussion there is no contemporary, longitudinal study of what it means to learn and teach in a disadvantaged school within the policy context of the ‘education revolution’ in Australia. Drawing on 500 interviews conducted over a four period with the Principal, parents, teachers and students at a regional low SES school, this book challenges the profile of one school as represented on the ‘My School’ website which publishes the results of National Assessment Program in Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). Chapters situate the original research within an international and national educational context, before exploring topics including leadership and management, student behaviour, constructs of the ‘good teacher’, the involvement of parents in school and the ‘digital revolution’. The book closes with an appraisal of the major themes that emerged from the multiple perspectives of the study. This is the first book to provide a longitudinal ethnographic study of a school in Australia, which examines the impact of the ‘education revolution’ on the Principal, parents, teachers and students. It comprehensively challenges the official ‘My School’ representation of a low SES school and will appeal to researchers in education, as well as those involved in postgraduate teacher education and sociology courses, both from Australia and internationally.

Book Reimagining Education Studies and Stories for Effective Learning in an Evolving Digital Environment

Download or read book Reimagining Education Studies and Stories for Effective Learning in an Evolving Digital Environment written by Deborah Cockerham and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-30 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technology has developed at a tremendous rate since the turn of the century, but educational practice has not kept pace. Traditional teaching practices still predominate in many educational settings, and educators are often intimidated by new technology. However, as tragic as the COVID-19 pandemic has been, it has caused many people to rethink education and opportunities provided by new technologies for effective teaching and learning. How can educational communities of practice be reimagined to support a growth mindset for learning? This volume explores innovative visions for 21st century learning. The content explores the experiences of teachers with new technology, presents research studies that highlight effective strategies and technologies, and shares lessons learned from a unique researcher-practitioner mentoring model. Educational approaches that worked well, challenges that were difficult to overcome, and potential benefits of effective technology integration will encourage readers to reimagine education and implement practices that can strengthen the future of online education.

Book Surviving Emotional Work for Teachers

Download or read book Surviving Emotional Work for Teachers written by Jean Hopman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-10-29 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surviving Emotional Work for Teachers is a guide to improving teachers’ wellbeing and practice through support of their emotional workload. The book argues that teachers should be given a formal opportunity to debrief on challenging events, allowing them to reflect on and reframe these experiences in a way that informs future practice to prevent the emotional fatigue that can lead teachers to leave the field altogether. Each chapter opens with a teacher’s story, acknowledging the emotional layers present in the scenario and what learnings can be drawn from it. Each of these stories features tension between what is expected of teachers, and how they are limited to act, which is further fuelled by underlying assumptions. This is valuable reading for teachers at all stages of their career, whether preparing for the complex work ahead or making sense of past and current experiences. This book offers a reflexive process that teachers and schools can implement to facilitate the useful exploration of their emotion. Such a process is vital for the overall wellbeing of any school.

Book excerpt: Drawn from three decades of parish ministry experience, Steward of Stories opens the delightfully complex and nuanced world of the congregation to a wider audience beyond, but including, local parish pastors. Each chapter brings together dramatically different stories about ordinary ministry situations organized around a core thematic connection, including pastoral incidents focused on topics like "Paying Attention," "Marry Me," and "Time to Go." Linking these together is the interwoven wisdom of an experienced pastor who encourages readers to consider the theological and ministry challenges at stake for us all. Clearly written and highly accessible, these vignettes are meant for lay and clergy audiences alike, especially as they come together in their mutual life in Christian community. These are stories about real people drawn from actual events--accounts that will prompt thoughtful contemplation and conversation among the faithful about saints and sinners in everyday congregations and situations. Each chapter concludes with helpful questions for use in both educational settings and individual study. This book is ideal for personal reflection or group discussion and will stimulate a richer awareness of the challenges and opportunities we all face in the ministries we share.
