Download or read book Hydrogeochemical Evaluation and Groundwater Quality written by Md. Shajedul Islam and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-23 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprehensively discusses the methods and practices for evaluating geochemical processes in aquifer groundwater. Possible occurrence and mechanisms of rock-water interaction, trace metal mobilization, thermodynamic explanation, actions of aquifer CO2, pollution sources, geogenic influencing factors, and isotope dilution methods are the primary areas of focus. These water quality variables are analyzed using a variety of logical/theoretical explanations, statistical techniques, and experimental procedures to determine the suitability of groundwater for drinking, irrigation, and other industrial purposes. The work is an important addition to hydrogeochemical literature since many existing indexing methods for the assessment of water quality are very old and have some degree of limitation. The book will be a useful resource for students, lecturers, and researchers working in the fields of hydrogeochemistry, hydrology, water pollution, and groundwater quality.

Download or read book International Encyclopedia of Linguistics written by William J. Frawley and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2003-05-01 with total page 2198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Encyclopedia of Linguistics, 2nd Edition encompasses the full range of the contemporary field of linguistics, including historical, comparative, formal, mathematical, functional, and philosophical linguistics with special attention given to interrelations within branches of linguistics and to relations of linguistics with other disciplines. Areas of intersection with the social and behavioral sciences--ethnolinguistics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and behavioral linguistics--receive major coverage, along with interdisciplinary work in language and literature, mathematical linguistics, computational linguistics, and applied linguistics. Longer entries in the International Encyclopedia of Linguistics, ranging up to four thousand words, survey the major fields of study--for example, anthropological linguistics, history of linguistics, semantics, and phonetics. Shorter entries treat specific topics within these fields, such as code switching, sound symbolism, and syntactic features. Other short entries define and discuss technical terms used within the various subfields or provide sketches of the careers of important scholars in the history of linguistics, such as Leonard Bloomfield, Roman Jakobson, and Edward Sapir. A major portion of the work is its extensive coverage of languages and language families. From those as familiar as English, Japanese, and the Romance languages to Hittite, Yoruba, and Nahuatl, all corners of the world receive treatment. Languages that are the subject of independent entries are analyzed in terms of their phonology, grammatical features, syntax, and writing systems. Lists attached to each article on a language group or family enumerate all languages, extinct or still spoken, within that group and provide detailed information on the number of known speakers, geographical range, and degree of intelligibility with other languages in the group. In this way, virtually every known language receives coverage. For ease of reference and to aid research, the articles are alphabetically arranged, each signed by the contributor, supported by up-to-date bibliographies, line drawings, maps, tables, and diagrams, and readily accessible via a system of cross-references and a detailed index and synoptic outline. Authoritative, comprehensive, and innovative, the 2nd edition of the International Encyclopedia of Linguistics will be an indispensable addition to personal, public, academic, and research libraries and will introduce a new generation of readers to the complexities and concerns of this field of study.

Download or read book A Checklist of Benthic Marine Algae of the Tropical and Subtropical Western Atlantic written by Michael James Wynne and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This "third revision" of M.J. Wynne's "Checklist" is a rigorously prepared and updated compilation of the taxa of benthic marine algae, or seaweeds, currently recognized as occurring in the broad area of the tropical and subtropical Western Atlantic Ocean. Thus, the checklist covers the region from the warm temperate eastern United States to southern Brazil, which is the same domain as the 1960 algal flora of W.R. Taylor. It includes a total of 1,393 species of benthic marine algae: 905 red algae, 175 brown algae, and 313 green algae. When the 185 infraspecific taxa are included, the total tally of current names is 1,578. Taxonomic synonyms are also included and are listed in brackets after the current names. The latest proposals on higher and lower hierarchical levels of systematic relationships are followed, reflecting the often dramatic changes in our concepts brought about by recent molecular-based phylogenetic studies. There are also 563 notes in regard to nomenclature and distribution for many of the taxa treated. This publication includes an extensive bibliography of pertinent literature for the period following the publication of the second revision of the checklist in 2005. The checklist includes a table listing new references by geographic region (country or coastal states of the southeastern USA). This work will be a useful and timely resource to workers on marine algae not only of the Western Atlantic but also on a global perspective because of its synthesis of recent literature and presentation of the most modern classification concepts.
