Book Durability of Concrete

Download or read book Durability of Concrete written by Mark Alexander and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-06-26 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an up-to-date survey of durability issues, with a particular focus on specification and design, and how to achieve durability in actual concrete construction. It is aimed at the practising engineer, but is also a valuable resource for graduate-level programs in universities. Along with background to current philosophies it gathers together in one useful reference a summary of current knowledge on concrete durability, includes information on modern concrete materials, and shows how these materials can be combined to produce durable concrete. The approach is consistent with the increasing focus on sustainability that is being addressed by the concrete industry, with the current emphasis on ‘design for durability’.

Book Concrete Microstructure

    Book Details:
  • Author : D. M. Roy

  • Release : 1993
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 204 pages

Download or read book Concrete Microstructure written by D. M. Roy and published by Strategic Highway Research Program (Shrp). This book was released on 1993 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Durability of concrete in highway systems is a problem of national concern. In order to better understand the mechanisms which intrinsically control durability in highway concrete, it is necessary to define and understand those factors which impact concrete microstructure which is a consequence of both its formulation and the processes taking place during mixing, placing and curing. This report documents an investigation of those variables which control cement hydration and consequent microstructural development.

Download or read book Compressive Strength of Concrete written by Pavel Krivenko and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-03-11 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete made using mineral cements, the raw materials which on earth are practically endless, is known as one of the oldest building materials and during the last decades of the twentieth century has become a dominant building material for general use. At the same time, the requirements of the quality of concrete and its performance properties, in particular compressive strength, durability, economical efficiency, and low negative impact of its manufacture on the environment have not yet been completely met. Bearing these requirements in mind, researchers and engineers worldwide are working on how to satisfy these requirements. This book has been written by researchers and experts in the field and provides the state of the art on recent progress achieved on the properties of concrete, including concrete in which industrial by-products are utilized. The book is dedicated to graduate students, researchers, and practicing engineers in related fields.

Book Microstructure and Compressive Strength of Concrete

Download or read book Microstructure and Compressive Strength of Concrete written by khuram Rashid Khawajgi and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-02 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete is solid material but it is heterogeneous material and its microstructure varies with time and environmental factors. Properties of any material depend upon its internal microstructure and can be modify by changing its microstructure. Variation in the microstructure affects the mechanical properties of concrete. The most important and basic property of concrete that is kept in mind by concrete technologist and researchers is its compressive strength. There are many factors that affect the compressive strength e.g. temperature during casting, humidity, curing conditions, w/c ratio and admixtures etc.

Book Freeze thaw Durability of Concretes with and Without Class C Fly Ash

Download or read book Freeze thaw Durability of Concretes with and Without Class C Fly Ash written by Chengsheng Ouyang and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The freeze-thaw resistance of concretes was studied. Nine concrete mixes, made with five cements and cement-Class C fly ash combinations, were exposed to freeze-thaw cycling following 110 to 222 days of moist curing. Prior to the freeze-thaw cycling, the specimens were examined by a low-vacuum scanning electron microscope (SEN) for their microstructure. The influcence of a wet/dry treatment was also studied. Infilling of ettringite in entrained air voids was observed in the concretes tested. The extent of the infilling depends on the period of moist curing as well as the wet/dry treatment. The concretes with 15% Class C fly ash replacement show more infilling in their air voids. It was found that the influence of the infilling on the freeze-thaw durability relates to the air spacing factor. The greater the spacing factor, the more expansion under the freeze-thaw cycling. The infilling seems to decrease effective air content and to increase effective spacing factor. The infilling also implies that the filled air voids are water-accessible. These might lead to concrete more vulnerable to the freeze-thaw attack. By combining the above results with field observations, one may conclude that the freeze-thaw damage is a factor related to premature deterioration of PCC pavements in Iowa.

Book Effect of Curing Condition on the Wear and Strength of Concrete Classic Reprint

Download or read book Effect of Curing Condition on the Wear and Strength of Concrete Classic Reprint written by Duff An. Abrams and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-07 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Effect of Curing Condition on the Wear and Strength of Concrete The necessity for careful restriction on the quantity of mixing water used in concrete, and the importance of proper curing conditions during the period of setting and hardening are not generally appreciated by engineers and contractors doing concrete work. In view of the wide spread use oi concrete in the construction of pavements, floors, loading platforms, and in other places requiring high strength and resistance to abrasion, it seemed desirable to carry out an experimental study which would, bring out the effect of water content and curing conditions on the compressive strength and the wearing resistance of concrete, and the relation between these two properties. These tests were made as a part of the experimental studies of the properties of concrete and concrete materials, being carried out through the cooperation of Lewis Institute and the Portland Cement Association at the Structural Materials Research Laboratory. Book Curing Concrete

Download or read book Curing Concrete written by Peter C. Taylor and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-09-10 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Curing is one of those activities that every civil engineer and construction worker has heard of, but in reality does not worry about much. In practice, curing is often low on the list of priorities on the construction site, particularly when budgets and timelines are under pressure. Yet the increasing demands being placed on concrete mixtures also mean that they are less forgiving than in the past. Therefore, any activity that will help improve hydration and so performance, while reducing the risk of cracking, is becoming more important. Curing Concrete explains exactly why curing is so important and shows you how to best do it. The book covers: The fundamentals behind hydration How curing affects the properties of concrete, improving its long-term performance What curing technologies and techniques you can use for different applications How to effectively specify, provide, and measure curing in a project The author also gives numerous examples of how curing—or a lack of it—has affected concrete performance in real-world situations. These include examples from hot and cold climates, as well as examples related to high-performance concrete, performance parameters, and specifications and testing. Written for construction professionals who want to ensure the quality and longevity of their concrete structures, this book demonstrates that curing is well worth the effort and cost.
