Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The University of Genoa - Ohio State University Joint Conference on New Trends in Systems Theory was held at the Badia di S. Andrea in Genoa on July 9-11, 1990. This Proceedings volume contains articles based on two of the three Plenary talks and most of the shorter presentations. The papers are arranged by author, and no attempt has been made to organize them by topic. We would like to thank the members of the Scientific Committee and of the Program Committee, the speakers and authors, and everyone who attended the conference. Approximately 120 researchers and students from all over the world visited Genoa for the meeting, representing a wide spectrum of areas in pure and applied control and systems theory. The success of the conference depended on their high level of scientific and engineering expertise, not to mention their enthusiasm. The Conference on New Trends in Systems Theory would not have been possible without the help of a great many institutions and people. We would like to thank the University of Genoa, particularly Professor Enrico Beltrametti, and the Ohio State University's Columbian Quincentenary Committee led by Professor Christian Zacher, for encouragement and financial assistance. The University of Genoa Mathematics Department and Communication, Computer and System Sciences Department supplied assistance and technical help. The staff of the Consorzio Genova Ricerche, particularly Ms. Piera Ponta and Ms. Camilla Marconi, worked diligently over many months and especially during the conference itself to insure a smooth and enjoyable meeting.

Book Inversion Method in the Discrete time Nonlinear Control Systems Synthesis Problems

Download or read book Inversion Method in the Discrete time Nonlinear Control Systems Synthesis Problems written by Ülle Kotta and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-01-21 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is twofold: To survey control system design methods based on the system inversion technique and to collect into one place the many recent results in the field. It has been known for some time that inverse systems may be used to solve numerous control problems. Despite the importance and conceptual simplicity of this topic there appears to be no monograph written on it. The purpose of this work is therefore to present and apply a systematic design method which bases itself on the fundamental system property of invertibility. Many different theoretical and practical aspects are considered in this volume working from elementary topics in the first section to current research in the second.

Book Multivariable Control

Download or read book Multivariable Control written by S.G. Tzafestas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The foundation of linear systems theory goes back to Newton and has been followed over the years by many improvements such as linear operator theory, Laplace Transformation etc. After the World War II, feedback control theory has shown a rapid development, and standard elegant analysis and synthesis techniques have been discovered by control system workers, such as root-locus (Evans) and frequency response methods (Nyquist, Bode). These permitted a fast and efficient analysis of simple-loop control systems, but in their original "paper-and-pencil" form were not appropriate for multiple loop high-order systems. The advent of fast digital computers, together with the development of multivariable multi-loop system techniques, have eliminated these difficulties. Multivariable control theory has followed two main avenues; the optimal control approach, and the algebraic and frequency-domain control approach. An important key concept in the whole multivariable system theory is "ob servability and controllability" which revealed the exact relationships between transfer functions and the state variable representations. This has given new insight into the phenomenon of "hidden oscillations" and to the transfer function modelling of dynamic systems. The basic tool in optimal control theory is the celebrated matrix Riccati differential equation which provides the time-varying feedback gains in a linear-quadratic control system cell. Much theory presently exists for the characteristic properties and solution of this Riccati equation.

Book Control Theory for Linear Systems

Download or read book Control Theory for Linear Systems written by Harry L. Trentelman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control Theory for Linear Systems deals with the mathematical theory of feedback control of linear systems. It treats a wide range of control synthesis problems for linear state space systems with inputs and outputs. The book provides a treatment of these problems using state space methods, often with a geometric flavour. Its subject matter ranges from controllability and observability, stabilization, disturbance decoupling, and tracking and regulation, to linear quadratic regulation, H2 and H-infinity control, and robust stabilization. Each chapter of the book contains a series of exercises, intended to increase the reader's understanding of the material. Often, these exercises generalize and extend the material treated in the regular text.

Book Integration of Process Design and Control

Download or read book Integration of Process Design and Control written by E. Zafiriou and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The existence of interactions between the design of a process and that of its control system have been known to industrial practitioners for a long time. In the past decade academic research has produced methodologies and tools that begin to address the issue of designing processes that are flexible, can be controlled reliably, and are inherently safe. This publication unites the work of academics and practitioners with interests in the integration of process design and control, in order to examine the state of the art in methodologies and applications. The scope covers the design of chemical plants at different stages of detail. It also examines control issues from the plantwide level, where, for example, recycles between units can be important, to the specific unit level, where the availability or selection of measurements might be the most important factor.

Book Control and Modeling of Complex Systems

Download or read book Control and Modeling of Complex Systems written by Koichi Hashimoto and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hidenori Kimura, renowned system and control theorist, turned 60 years of age in November, 2001. To celebrate this memorable occasion, his friends, collaborators, and former students gathered from all over the world and held a symposium in his honor on November 1 and 2, 2001, at the Sanjo Conference Hall at the University of Tokyo. Reflecting his current research interests, the symposium was entitled "Cybernetics in the 21st Century: Information and Complexity in Control Theory," and it drew nearly 150 attendees. There were twenty-five lectures, on which the present volume is based. Hidenori Kimura was born on November 3, 1941, in Tokyo, just prior to the outbreak of the Second World War. It is not hard to imagine, then, that his early days, like those of so many of his contemporaries, must have been difficult. Fortunately, the war ended in 1945, and his generation found itself thoroughly occupied with the rebuilding effort and with Japan's uphill journey in the last half-century. He entered the University of Tokyo in 1963, received a B. S. in 1965, an M. S. in 1967, and, in 1970, a Ph. D. degree for his dissertation "A Study of Differential Games. " After obtaining his doctorate, he joined the Department of Control En gineering at Osaka University as a research associate, and in 1973 he was promoted to an associate professor.
