Here is a compelling, probing look at the cost of discipleship and the meaning of the first and greatest commandment—one that will strum a deeper, truer chord within even as it strips away the trappings of shallow, cultural Christianity.“Looking for the complete volume on Christian living? This is it. And the title sums it up. If you desire life deep, rich, and meaningful, then it is simply Loving God.”Joni Eareckson TadaPresident, Joni and Friends

Book How Could a Loving God

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ken Ham
  • Publisher : New Leaf Publishing Group
  • Release : 2007-01-01
  • ISBN : 1614580170
  • Pages : 201 pages

Download or read book How Could a Loving God written by Ken Ham and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It really isn't a fair fight, is it? The finite against the infinite. The limited against the unlimited? Is God indifferent to my suffering? How do I resolve this anger at God? Why didn't God prevent this from happening? Will I see loved ones again? Or is heaven just a "feel good" myth? People assume Christians have all the answers; yet, in the face of tragedy, death, or suffering, everyone struggles to find just the right words to bring comfort or closure to those in need. Sometimes just hearing "It is God's will" isn't enough. Sometimes just saying "God will turn this to good" seems so meaningless when despair is so profound. Often the pain goes too deep, the questions won't go away, and even the assurance of faith doesn't help. How could God let this happen? How can God love us, yet allow us to suffer in this way? What is the point of this? What is the purpose? In this provocative new book, Ken Ham makes clear answers found in the pages of Scripture - powerful, definitive, and in a way that helps our hearts to go beyond mere acceptance. When you grasp the reality of original sin (and all that it means), it creates a vital foundation for your heart to finally understand what follows.

Book Sinners in the Hands of a Loving God

Download or read book Sinners in the Hands of a Loving God written by Brian Zahnd and published by WaterBrook. This book was released on 2017-08-15 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pastor Brian Zahnd began "to question the theology of a wrathful God who delights in punishing sinners, and has started to explore the real nature of Jesus and His Father. The book isn’t only an interesting look at the context of some modern theological ideas; it’s also offers some profound insight into God’s love and eternal plan." —Relevant Magazine (Named one of the Top 10 Books of 2017) God is wrath? Or God is Love? In his famous sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” Puritan revivalist Jonathan Edwards shaped predominating American theology with a vision of God as angry, violent, and retributive. Three centuries later, Brian Zahnd was both mesmerized and terrified by Edwards’s wrathful God. Haunted by fear that crippled his relationship with God, Zahnd spent years praying for a divine experience of hell. What Zahnd experienced instead was the Father’s love—revealed perfectly through Jesus Christ—for all prodigal sons and daughters. In Sinners in the Hands of a Loving God, Zahnd asks important questions like: Is seeing God primarily as wrathful towards sinners true or biblical? Is fearing God a normal expected behavior? And where might the natural implications of this theological framework lead us? Thoughtfully wrestling with subjects like Old Testament genocide, the crucifixion of Jesus, eternal punishment in hell, and the final judgment in Revelation, Zanhd maintains that the summit of divine revelation for sinners is not God is wrath, but God is love.

Book excerpt: Ecstasy, or extasis, is the Greek term for trance, and is linked with a pleasurable, God-given state of out-of-body experience recorded throughout the New Testament and the church age. Starting with the apostles ecstatic experiences on Pentecost, the Book of Acts further records trances in the lives of Peter and Paul. From the early church to the Christian mystics of the Middle Ages and the famous revivalists of centuries present, God s movements on the earth have always been marked by these supernatural experiences. In this book, John Crowder takes us on a journey from Old Testament ecstatic prophets such as Samuel and Elijah, to the future ecstatics who will usher in a massive wave of harvest Glory to the streets in these last days. God has always wanted a people who live in the Heavens, even as they walk on the Earth. And the world is hungry for the demonstration of a gospel of supernatural power that flows from a life of divine pleasure. More than a state of mind, you will see how the nature of God s ecstasy is found in the joy, bliss and inner raptures of His presence. In this book, you will be encouraged to drink from the river of His pleasure! (Ps. 36:8)

Book Loving God with All Your Mind

Download or read book Loving God with All Your Mind written by Gene Edward Veith Jr. and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2003-10-07 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our world is alive with fascinating new ideas, discoveries, and technologies. But for Christians this can also present problems-especially when the values of postmodernism and secular university life conflict with basic Christian principles. What should Christians do when their beliefs come under attack in the classroom or the public square? Loving God with All Your Mind shows us that the answer is neither wholesale rejection of intellectual life and culture, nor blind acceptance of it. The answer lies in understanding that Jesus is Lord of all of life and that everything in life must be carefully viewed in the light of what Christ's lordship means. Gene Edward Veith unfolds a dazzling critique of the postmodern intellectual world and culture. He affirms the part that is good and true, but he also shows crucial weaknesses that have such a hold over contemporary thought. This book shows Christians how to survive and flourish in a postmodern world while affirming the truth of the Christian faith.

Book On Loving God

Book excerpt: "Love is the fountain of life, and the soul which does not drink from it cannot be called alive." These are the ancient words of Bernard of Clairvaux (1090 - 1153), a great lover of God and considered the last of the Church Fathers. Bernard was Cistercian monk and followed very strict disciplines. He chose to live in a primitive hut in a marshy valley rather than a wealthy Benedictine monastery nearby. Why? He said, "I was conscious my weak character needed a strong medicine." Later he founded 70 monasteries and was the leader of the monastery at Clairvaux, France. He taught that to know God we need to be devoted to him in poverty, simplicity, and solitude. His writings had a profound influence on Martin Luther, who called him "the best monk that ever lived," and John Calvin.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the biography of Professor N. Kasturi, the chosen biographer of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. This book is his autobiography, his story, his journey to the feet of the Lord, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. In his own words, "Each of us has to live the volume of biography, which we bring with us, as often as we are born, page after page, chapter after chapter, howsoever punctuated with dots and dashes, interrogations and exclamations, commas and colons, until the sentence ends ultimately with a Full Stop. But, luckily, I have as my inseparable companion and counsel, Bhagawan Himself; He dots the i’s and crosses the t’s as I live the lines on every page. He has made the Book of Life, my biography – momentous and meaningful for me. I must, however, confess that I do not deserve this book on me, by me. There are, I know, millions, who are absorbing the Love of the Living Loving God much deeper, who can, therefore, stand forth as messengers of His Love. They can lead the unloved and the unloving with surer and firmer steps, to the Presence of the Redeemer, the Comforter, the Saviour, the Avatar, the Sai. Nevertheless, when Bhagawan manifested a faint, favourable interest, when someone ventured to whisper to me in His Presence, that a bunch of my reminiscences may be welcomed by many, I was promoted by that smile to embark on this audacious adventure. My memory assumed the role of Chief Editor and hence, the chronicle suffers from imperfect chronology. Since the four parts of “Sathyam Sivam Sundram” relate most of that I have yearned to communicate, this book has become a personal testament, often perhaps too personal to be tolerated, for which act of indiscretion, I ask for pardon. Flattery is the food of fools, say those, who are denied that pabulum. I dare not deny my taste, for I have been fooled by flatterers, who threw appellations like poet, scholar, linguist, humourist, philosopher, and even ant-hill sage! Please dear reader, remember that I am struggling my best to eliminate the poison of the ego and sympathise with me, whenever you find the reptile raising its hood between the lines of this book. A few ‘old students’ of my classes at the University, my grandson, his wife, and a few brothers at Prasanthi Nilayam demanded that I should not give up the work and insisted on the completion of the book. As a result, this book, ‘Loving God’ is now placed at the Feet of the Lord and on the palms of those, who live in the Love of the Lord. Jai Sai Ram."

Book Sinners in the Presence of a Loving God

Download or read book Sinners in the Presence of a Loving God written by R. Zachary Manis and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-06-03 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why would a perfectly good and loving God consign anyone to eternal suffering in hell? In Sinners in the Presence of a Loving God, R. Zachary Manis examines in detail the various facets of the problem of hell, considers the reasons why the usual responses to the problem are unsatisfying, and suggests how an adequate solution to the problem can be constructed. Historically, there are four standard explanations of the nature and purpose of hell: traditionalism, annihilationism, the choice model, and universalism. In Manis's assessment, all are deficient in some crucial respect. The alternative view that he develops and defends, the divine presence model, stands within the tradition that understands hell to be a state of eternal conscious suffering, but, Manis contends, avoids the worst problems of its competitors. The key idea is that the suffering of hell is not the result of a divine act that aims to inflict it, but rather is the way in which a sinful creature necessarily experiences the unmitigated presence of a holy God. Heaven and hell are not two "places" to which the saved and damned are consigned, respectively, but rather are two radically different ways in which different persons will experience the same reality of God's omnipresence once the barrier of divine hiddenness is finally removed.

The next teacher says only grace matters. Who is right? Centuries ago, in answer to this question, Jesus simplified all the rules and regulations of the Law into just two great commands: love God and love people. Loving God and Others looks at how these two commands define the heart of Christian faith. As you rest in the certain knowledge of what God calls you to, you will be challenged to live these commands out—and discover how obeying Jesus’ simple commands will transform not only your life but also the lives of those around you.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nick Tosches discovered Thierry Alonso Gravleur's paintings in one of the major Los Angeles art galleries. He was immediately stricken by the strength of Gravleur's expressionist works which almost obsessively explore the human face: Gravleur is capable of rendering a face like no-one since Rembrandt and of capturing a soul like no-one since Bosch. Both artists meet and unsurprisingly decide to work together. They share the same vision of a humanity torn between idealization and pulsing. The result matches each artist's talent: Tosches' words echo Gravleur's drawings; Gravleur's drawings and paintings illustrate Tosches' words.

Book Loving God The Teachings of Bernard of Clairvaux

Download or read book Loving God The Teachings of Bernard of Clairvaux written by Ellyn Sanna and published by Anamchara Books. This book was released on 2011-05 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Love is the essence, the very substance of God." Bernard of Clairvaux had a tremendous influence on the eleventh century-and his understanding of Divine love can still inspire and challenge us. Anamchara's modern version of Loving God brings Bernard's teachings into the twenty-first century, allowing modern mystics the opportunity to once again sit at the feet of this great theologian. "All things are ordered-measured, numbered, and weighed-by love's structure, and nothing is left outside love's realm." -Bernard of Clairvaux
