Book On Approximating Extremals of Functionals Part I the Method and Examples for Boundary Value Problems

Download or read book On Approximating Extremals of Functionals Part I the Method and Examples for Boundary Value Problems written by Donald Greenspan and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new numerical method for a class of nonlinear boundary value problems is described and a variety of examples are presented to indicate its potential value. The essential idea is to apply finite difference methods to a functional rather than to the Euler differential equation of that functional. Applications are made to problems in minimal surfaces, geodesics, and subsonic flows, which were previously inaccessible. (Author).

Book Advances in Control Systems

Download or read book Advances in Control Systems written by C. T. Leondes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-12-01 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Control Systems: Theory and Applications, Volume 6 provides information pertinent to the significant progress in the field of control and systems theory and applications. This book presents the higher level of automata, which represent the embodiment of the application of artificial intelligence techniques to control system design and may be described as self-organizing systems. Organized into four chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the existing technology in learning control system. This text then demonstrates how to apply artificial intelligence techniques to the designs of off-line and on-line learning control systems. Other chapters consider the decomposition methods and the associated multilevel optimization techniques applicable to control system optimization problems. This book discusses as well the complex optimal system control problems applied to the trajectory optimization problem. The final chapter deals with systems described by partial differential equations. This book is a valuable resource for control system engineers.

Book Singularly Perturbed Boundary Value Problems

Download or read book Singularly Perturbed Boundary Value Problems written by Matteo Dalla Riva and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-01 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the analysis of the basic boundary value problems for the Laplace equation in singularly perturbed domains. The main purpose is to illustrate a method called Functional Analytic Approach, to describe the dependence of the solutions upon a singular perturbation parameter in terms of analytic functions. Here the focus is on domains with small holes and the perturbation parameter is the size of the holes. The book is the first introduction to the topic and covers the theoretical material and its applications to a series of problems that range from simple illustrative examples to more involved research results. The Functional Analytic Approach makes constant use of the integral representation method for the solutions of boundary value problems, of Potential Theory, of the Theory of Analytic Functions both in finite and infinite dimension, and of Nonlinear Functional Analysis. Designed to serve various purposes and readerships, the extensive introductory part spanning Chapters 1–7 can be used as a reference textbook for graduate courses on classical Potential Theory and its applications to boundary value problems. The early chapters also contain results that are rarely presented in the literature and may also, therefore, attract the interest of more expert readers. The exposition moves on to introduce the Functional Analytic Approach. A reader looking for a quick introduction to the method can find simple illustrative examples specifically designed for this purpose. More expert readers will find a comprehensive presentation of the Functional Analytic Approach, which allows a comparison between the approach of the book and the more classical expansion methods of Asymptotic Analysis and offers insights on the specific features of the approach and its applications to linear and nonlinear boundary value problems.

Book Solving Ordinary and Partial Boundary Value Problems in Science and Engineering

Download or read book Solving Ordinary and Partial Boundary Value Problems in Science and Engineering written by Karel Rektorys and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-10-20 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an elementary, accessible introduction for engineers and scientists to the concepts of ordinary and partial boundary value problems, acquainting readers with fundamental properties and with efficient methods of constructing solutions or satisfactory approximations. Discussions include: ordinary differential equations classical theory of partial differential equations Laplace and Poisson equations heat equation variational methods of solution of corresponding boundary value problems methods of solution for evolution partial differential equations The author presents special remarks for the mathematical reader, demonstrating the possibility of generalizations of obtained results and showing connections between them. For the non-mathematician, the author provides profound functional-analytical results without proofs and refers the reader to the literature when necessary. Solving Ordinary and Partial Boundary Value Problems in Science and Engineering contains essential functional analytical concepts, explaining its subject without excessive abstraction.
