As a professional spiritual-healing therapist, Southwood has been able to see through the dogma and self-interests of both the spiritual and medical worlds. This book is full of practical examples and exercises which, in some deep part of our soul, we can all associate with and which will help us to understand ourselves and our problems at a practical level. This exciting insight of the human experience should be read and considered by all levels of society--the scientist, the religious and the layperson--so they can begin to see both themselves and others with understanding and empathy.

Book Full Circle

Download or read book Full Circle written by Renata Reber and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2023-01-26 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I wake up in the middle of the night, reach for my writing pad and start writing in the dark. It is difficult to figure out all the scribbling the next morning. If I would turn on the light, these thoughts would disappear in a hurry, reality will set in. My best thoughts are at night, my brain is clear and I can remember the smallest details. Mostly about my early childhood, my war experiences and the struggles that accompanied that period of my life. During the daytime these thoughts are tucked away, deep in my brain and I avoid remembering those years. It’s now all in the past, but it should be remembered, because if I don’t remember my past, I cannot enjoy my future.

Book excerpt: “Storylines and twists abound. But action is secondary to atmosphere: Onuzo excels at evoking a stratified city, where society weddings feature ‘ice sculptures as cold as the unmarried belles’ and thugs write tidy receipts for kickbacks extorted from homeless travelers.” —The New Yorker When army officer Chike Ameobi is ordered to kill innocent civilians, he knows it is time to desert his post. As he travels toward Lagos with Yemi, his junior officer, and into the heart of a political scandal involving Nigeria’s education minister, Chike becomes the leader of a new platoon, a band of runaways who share his desire for a different kind of life. Among them is Fineboy, a fighter with a rebel group, desperate to pursue his dream of becoming a radio DJ; Isoken, a 16–year–old girl whose father is thought to have been killed by rebels; and the beautiful Oma, escaping a wealthy, abusive husband. Full of humor and heart, Welcome to Lagos is a high–spirited novel about aspirations and escape, innocence and corruption. It offers a provocative portrait of contemporary Nigeria that marks the arrival in the United States of an extraordinary young writer.

Book Cohesive Profiling

Download or read book Cohesive Profiling written by Christian R. Hoffmann and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2012-04-16 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cohesive Profiling provides one of the first linguistic descriptions of blog discourse, focusing on the cohesive relations which enable users to construe blogs as compatible meaningful wholes. With a corpus-based analysis of cohesive relations in personal blogs, the study surprisingly reveals that there is only limited cohesive rapport between the textual contributions of blog authors and readers. The book retraces blogs’ technological, linguistic and generic evolution and describes how today’s blog genres are structured and composed. Additionally, it is shown how cohesive interaction, shared knowledge and technological expertise converge in blog readers trying to keep track of blog topics, purposes and identities over time. The book is of interest to researchers in discourse analysis, corpus linguistics and pragmatics as well as to scholars working in the field of computer-mediated communication.

In the end, teenaged Erich jumps at the opportunity to emigrate to America. Book Of Dogs and Other People

    Book Details:
  • Author : Susan Landauer
  • Publisher : Univ of California Press
  • Release : 2017-04-15
  • ISBN : 0520292200
  • Pages : 200 pages

Download or read book Of Dogs and Other People written by Susan Landauer and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2017-04-15 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Roy De Forest's brightly colored, crazy-quilted jungles dotted with nipples of paint and inhabited by a cast of characters uniquely his own (a perennial favorite being his wild-eyed, pointy-eared dogs) appeal to a broad spectrum of viewers from young to old, from the casual visitor to the most sophisticated art aficionado. OMCA's project aims to reassess De Forest's art-historical position, placing him in a national rather than solely regional/West Coast context. Landauer positions De Forest as part of a bicoastal alternative current of American art that has been poorly documented and deliberately ran counter to better publicized tendencies of the 1960s and 1970s, notably Pop, Minimalism, and post-painterly abstraction. Despite the playfulness of his work, close study of De Forest's art reveals deep layers of meaning. He was a fan of popular science fiction and adventure stories, but he was also well versed in Australian aboriginal art, ukiyo-e prints, poetry, literature, and the history of philosophy. He enjoyed secreting obscure art-historical references into his work: animals might assume postures found in Medieval or Renaissance art, or a drawing that appears to depict a comic-book character may in fact refer to Titian's triple-headed allegory of Prudence. This engaging publication presents gorgeous color reproductions of 150 of De Forest's finest artworks, plus a variety of figure illustrations that illuminate the artist's diverse sources and freewheeling social and creative milieu in Northern California."--Provided by publisher.
