Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results are reported of research which was undertaken (1) to determine the chemical shifts of cis and trans isomers of platinum(II) complexes in hope of gaining information about pi-bonding in the Pt-P bond, and to extend this study to palladium(II); (2) to determine trends which may exist within a series of ligands for the purpose of developing expressions that would enable calculation of chemical shifts for complexes; (3) to expand the knowledge of the chemistry of tertiary phosphine complexes of platinum(II) and palladium(II); and (4) to determine phosphorus-phosphorus coupling constants by preparing a complex of a chelating diphosphine (R2PCH2CH2PR'2) or by preparing a complex containing two different phosphines.

Book Aspects of Homogeneous Catalysis

Download or read book Aspects of Homogeneous Catalysis written by R. Ugo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the liquid phase oxidation of organic substrates using transition metal compounds as catalysts has become a profitable means of obtaining industrially important chemicals. Millions of tons of valuable petrochemicals are produced in this manner annually [1]. Typical examples of such processes are the production of vinyl acetate or acetaldehyde via the Wacker process, equations (1) and (2); the Mid Century process for the oxidation of methyl aromatics, such as p-xylene to tereph thalic acid, equation (3); and the production of propylene oxide from propylene using alkyl hydroperoxides, equation (4). PdCI , CuCI 2 2 (1) CH2 = CH2 + 1/2 O2 -H 0 ~ CH3CHO 2 (2) Co(OAcjz ~ (3) (4) The vast majority of liquid phase transition metal catalyzed oxidations of organic compounds fall into these three broad categories: (a) free radical autoxidation reactions, (b) reactions involving nucleophilic attack on coordinated substrate such as the Wacker process, or (c) metal catalyzed reactions of organic substrates with hydroperoxides. Of these three classes of oxidations only the first represents the actual interaction of dioxygen with an organic substrate. The function of oxygen in the Wacker process is simply to re-oxidize the catalyst after each cycle [2].

  • Pages : 336 pages

Download or read book Metal Complexes written by Peter Maitlis and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Organic Chemistry of Palladium, Volume 1: Metal Complexes deals with the number of organic reactions that can be catalyzed by palladium, particularly as regards the structures bonding, and reactions of the metal complexes. The book discusses monodentate ligands which are either neutral (carbonyls, isonitriles, carbenes) or anionic (methyl, phenyl, ethynyl, hydride). The text also examines the complexes formed by 1,3-. 1,4-, and 1,5-diolefins where four carbon atoms are bound to the metal. Palladium (II) can undergo a reaction with the 1,3-dienes and results in a ?-allylic complexes where only three carbon atoms are coordinated to the metal. (The bonding situation in complexes 1,4- and 1,5-dienes, where no great interaction between the olefins are similar to that in monoolefin complexes, is straightforward), Olefins can also react with palladium chloride in protic solvents to produce ketones (or aldehydes) or organic coupling products. Some experiments conducted by Huttel et al shows that some palladium was precipitated from the reactions giving lower yields, resulting in various aldehydes and ketones as by products. The book also discusses cyclopentadienyl and benzene complexes. The text can prove beneficial for researchers, investigators and scientists whose works involve organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry and inorganic chemistry.

Book Inorganic Reactions and Methods Reactions Catalyzed by Inorganic Compounds

Download or read book Inorganic Reactions and Methods Reactions Catalyzed by Inorganic Compounds written by A. P. Hagen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-09-17 with total page 686 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time the discipline of modern inorganic chemistry has been systematized according to a plan constructed by a council of editorial advisors and consultants, among them three Nobel laureates (E.O. Fischer, H. Taube and G. Wilkinson). Rather than producing a collection of unrelated review articles, the series creates a framework which reflects the creative potential of this scientific discipline. Thus, it stimulates future development by identifying areas which are fruitful for further research. The work is indexed in a unique way by a structured system which maximizes its usefulness to the reader. It augments the organization of the work by providing additional routes of access for specific compounds, reactions and other topics.
