Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been much in church theology over the years that has come about as looking at the Bible as a great literary book. But if we look at the Bible as a historical book, how do things change? And even if our theology is correct, are the actions Christians and the Church engage in correct? Inside, we discover many instances where what many Christians believe do not match up with the Bible. William also shares part of his amazing testimony inside, about coming from a cessationist background to encountering God through the gifts of the Spirit.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heritage Edition—Over 100 illustrations of a century ago. Unabridged, original text consisting of inspiring and profound lessons from the stories and parables which Jesus told. Christ the Great Teacher gave much of His instruction as He walked with His disciples through the hills and valleys of Palestine or rested by the lake or river. In His parable teaching He linked divine truth with common things and incidents, as may be found in the experiences of the shepherd, the builder, the tiller of the soil, the traveler, and the homemaker. Familiar objects were associated with thoughts true and beautiful—thoughts of God’s loving interest in us, of the grateful homage that is His due, and of the care we should have one for another. Thus lessons of divine wisdom and practical truth were made forcible and impressive. The Scripture says, “All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; . . . that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.” Matt. 13:34, 35. Natural things were the medium for the spiritual; the things of nature and the life-experience of His hearers were connected with the truths of the written word. Leading thus from the natural to the spiritual kingdom, Christ’s parables are links in the chain of truth that unites man with God, and earth with heaven. In this volume the parables are grouped according to their subjects, and their lessons are developed and illustrated. The book is full of gems of truth, and to many readers it will give a richer meaning to the common surroundings of everyday life.

This book was released on 2022-08-20 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book uses the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures to prove that all the teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses concerning the Last Days and the good news of salvation are unscriptural. The author, an elder of Jehovah's Witnesses for 40 years, shares the results of the last ten years of his research into such Watch Tower teachings as the 1914 invisible presence of Christ, the overlapping generation doctrine, the failed prophecies of 1925 and 1975, the fact that the Governing Body had evidence long ago showing that 607 BCE was not the date of the Babylonian exile, and most important of all, the abundant evidence that the salvation hope offered to the JW Other Sheep is a Rutherford invention wholly without support in Scripture. He also shares his experience on how Witnesses who continue to believe in Jehovah and Jesus can move beyond JW.org without sacrificing their faith. This is a must-read for any Jehovah's Witness who is a seeker of truth and unafraid to put his or her beliefs to the test.

Download or read book Recycled Lives written by Julie Chajes and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-01-02 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sizeable minority of people with no particular connection to Eastern religions now believe in reincarnation. The rise in popularity of this belief over the last century and a half is directly traceable to the impact of the nineteenth century's largest and most influential Western esoteric movement, the Theosophical Society. In Recycled Lives, Julie Chajes looks at the rebirth doctrines of the matriarch of Theosophy, the controversial occultist Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (1831-1891). Examining her teachings in detail, Chajes places them in the context of multiple dimensions of nineteenth-century intellectual and cultural life. In particular, she explores Blavatsky's readings (and misreadings) of Spiritualist currents, scientific theories, Platonism, and Hindu and Buddhist thought. These in turn are set in relief against broader nineteenth-century American and European trends. The chapters come together to reveal the contours of a modern perspective on reincarnation that is inseparable from the nineteenth-century discourses within which it emerged, and which has shaped how people in the West tend to view reincarnation today.

Book excerpt: Decades before the Salem Witch trials, 11 people were hanged as witches in the Connecticut River Valley. The advent of witch hunting in New England was directly influenced by the English Civil War and the witch trials in England led by Matthew Hopkins, who pioneered "techniques" for examining witches. This history examines the outbreak of witch hysteria in the Valley, focusing on accusations of demonic possession, apotropaic magic and the role of the clergy. Although the hysteria was eventually quelled by a progressive magistrate unwilling to try witches, accounts of the trials later influenced contemporary writers during the Salem witch hunts. The source of the document "Grounds for Examination of a Witch" is identified.

Book excerpt: A Woman's Relationship Survival Guide was written to assist women in learning how to better understand their behaviors and swirling emotions when under the influence of a relationship. The guide examines issues surrounding personal responsibility for choices we make and trails we take. Each chapter exposes several paths of opportunity and supports the strengthening and building of the inner self. Though life can become busy and relationships can be turbulent, we must stop at times to rethink just who we are, where we're headed, and what's really right for us as individuals. Besides, it's unfair to claim that our partner doesn't know or understand us if we don't really know or understand ourselves. The guide is not written to encourage role reversals. We should not mimic behaviors that we dislike the most in our partner while claiming to be a better person. The guide is not written to cheerlead the leaving of your partner at the rise of the slightest problem. Instead, the guide promotes healthy self-respect, self-reliance, and a reciprocal partnership. Happiness, contentment, stimulation, and security are signs of relationship stability. Daydreams of pepper spraying your partner to the point of satisfaction or frequent desires to slap the crap out of him are signs that you need to read deeper into this book (if, he's worth it).
