Download or read book Oh Shit It s Jesus written by Steve Hughes and published by . This book was released on 2008-02-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus was a peasant day-laborer. His teachings and his miraculous deeds were revolutionary. When religious leaders saw Jesus walking up, out of frustration they would say "Oh shit! It's Jesus!" Jesus was trouble. He taught that God was more concerned about social justice and the loving restoration of individuals, rather than blind allegiance to an oppressive and irrelevant religious system. When Jesus would walk along the shore of a fishing village, a life hardened fisherman would see Jesus and joyfully shout out "Oh shit! It's Jesus!" After a hard day of labor, fishermen, women from the fields, and children would sit in the evening sun and listen to Jesus teach about the love and mercy God desires for everyone. The reality and message of Jesus' life are amazing. You may see organized religion and the church as a negative option for your spiritual life, but I encourage you to look at the actual life of Jesus as a positive choice for your spirituality.

Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Glowing with riveting and gorgeous prose, Expecting Sunshine chronicles the anticipation and anxiety of expecting a baby while still grieving for the child that came before—enveloping readers with insightful observations on grief and healing, life and death, and the incredible power of a mother’s love. Letter from a reader: I just finished your beautiful book Expecting Sunshine and felt compelled to reach out and say thank you. A few days after I found out I miscarried, a few days before my D&C, I went to Barnes & Noble in hopes of finding a guidebook or self-help book of how to heal and cope with miscarriage or loss of a child. I searched every feasible location: self-help, psychology, family planning, childcare. With tears in my eyes I was too embarrassed to ask anyone at the counter for help. There I was already utterly heartbroken and feeling more alone than ever. Not a single book for me to turn to. I pulled out my phone, googled “books about miscarriage” and found your book and ordered it on the spot. It must not have been easy for you and your family to share your story, but I hope you know what an impact you’ve had on me and likely so many other women. You’ve given me so much hope for my year ahead. —Katie Rhodes, Oakland, California www.ExpectingSunshine.com

Download or read book The Real Story written by Michael Bowman and published by John Debell. This book was released on 2008-04 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Second Coming is unfolding in Tennessee, where intelligent design is a fact of life, and evolutionary science a lie. This is local reporter Laurie Hendricks' account of events, told through the lives of a small circle of disciples. We learn that a Second Coming does not signal the end of the world in a literal sense; it is a metaphor for our responsibility to create a better world. But first we must recognize that, as consciousness, we are infinitely more than these material bodies; they are simply our access to the material world. In allowing ourselves to be controlled by them, in struggling to satisfy their urges and demands, we create the divisive self-interest behind ALL of our problems. Laurie's story echoes the words of enlightened thinkers through the ages: The world only changes for the better when we do. First we must see through material illusions and recognize our Real nature as consciousness.

Download or read book God s Country written by Charles Trafford and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2005-09-10 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God's Country takes a hilarious and irreverent swipe at religious dogma in America. Part Jack Kerouac part Sherman Alexie, it is a hilarious and irreverent novel. Two friends take a less-than-ordinary road trip through the American West. On their journey, they repeatedly encounter a religious couple who are on a pilgrimage to find God. Much to the exasperation of the protagonists, the couple continually finds tangible evidence of their devout faith in the most unlikely places. Despite the novel's humorous approach, though, there is an underlying poignant message. Without the central characters recognizing it, their own trip becomes something much deeper - a true spiritual awakening. Their journey brings them new insights about their philosophical and spiritual convictions, the meaning of friendship, and the impact that dogma has on our beliefs, our culture, and our environment.
