Download or read book Development of Officer Selection and Classification Tests 1966 written by Robert E. Miller and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two new tests for use at the officer and student officer level were constructed for implementation is fiscal year 1966. These are the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test-66 (AFOQT) and the AFROTC Pre-Enrollment Test-66 (PET). The former succeeds AFOQT-64 in the normal two-year replacement cycle and closely resembles AFOQT-64 in format, type of content, and procedures for construction and standardization. It yields Pilot, Navigator-Technical, Officer Quality, Verbal, and Quantitative composite scores. Standardization was accomplished with reference to the Project TALENT battery in a manner which permits relating scores on the new test form to performance of Air Force Academy candidates and 12th grade males. A similar procedure was used in standardizing AFROTC PET-66. This test is an adaptation of the former Precommission Screening Test-62. It yields a total score based on verbal and quantitative items. It is intended as a screening device for college freshmen who apply for the AFROTC program.

Book Effectiveness of Selection and Classification Testing

Download or read book Effectiveness of Selection and Classification Testing written by Milton H. Maier and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ; the relationships between testing program, training content and method, and utilization on the job are probed; and the methodology is explained by which the validity of the tests is established. Analysis of measures of performance in job training programs and rating of job performance reveals that training performance is more satisfactory than job ratings for evaluating test effectiveness. How well tests predict performance in training programs and the relation between test scores and other indexes of success are examined separately for blacks and whites. Selection and classification tests are effective in identifying potential failures in Army training programs and for assigning men to jobs where their potential is best used and where they can best serve the Army. Aptitude test scores are useful indicators of the proficiency and grade a man can attain, of the time required to bring a trainee to a minimum level of performance, and in identifying general categories--men eligible for o

Book Personnel Selection and Classification

Download or read book Personnel Selection and Classification written by Michael G. Rumsey and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bringing together several key elements needed to identify the most promising themes for future research in selection and classification, this book's underlying aim is to improve job performance by selecting the right persons and matching them most effectively with the right jobs. An emphasis is placed on current, innovative research approaches which in some cases depart substantially from traditional approaches. The contributors -- consisting of professionals in measurement, personnel research, and applied and military psychology -- discuss where the quantum advances of the last decade should take us further. Comprehensive coverage of the selection and classification domain is provided, including a broad range of topics in each of the following areas: performance conceptualization and measurement, individual differences, and selection and classification decision models. The presentations in each of these areas are integrated into a set of coherent themes. This integration was the product of structured group discussions which also resulted in a further evolution of some of the ideas presented.

Book Research on the Selection of Officer Candidates and Cadets

Download or read book Research on the Selection of Officer Candidates and Cadets written by Leo J. Kotula and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the CADET LEADERS Task is to develop and refine psychological measures for use in primary officer selection and evaluation programs, specifically in selecting students for the Reserve Officer Training Corps, the Army Officer Candidate Schools, and the U.S. Military Academy. Technical Research Report 1146 describes selection procedures now in effect for each of the programs and states the research basis for the measures used. The report also surveys current research requirements for officer procurement programs recently expanded by Act of Congress, research needed to adapt selection procedures to current OCS training requirements, and special studies for the USMA. Continuing research has resulted in the development, operational implementation, and refinement of tests of mental ability, physical proficiency, and leadership used in selecting cadets and officer candidates. Two new forms of the ROTC Qualifying Examination, RQ-8 and RQ-9, developed to screen students for admittance to the Senior ROTC Division (Military Science III) were implemented in the spring of 1966. A Basic ROTC Examination developed and validated for screening MS I students will be available for operational use in the fall of 1966. Further research will be undertaken to increase the effectiveness of screening and selection programs in conjunction with an intensive study of officer and leadership qualities as they emerge at the USMA and after commissioning.

Book Selection and Classification Tests for Critical Military Occupational Specialties

Download or read book Selection and Classification Tests for Critical Military Occupational Specialties written by Scott H. Oppler and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents research on issues affecting the readiness of new Army personnel tests for implementation. These tests are from the battery developed under the Army's Project A to supplement the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). Specific tests were chosen for this research because they are being considered by the Department of Defense for implementation in preenlistment selection and classification. For this research, in 1990 new recruits at Fort Knox and Fort Benning took computerized tests of spatial, perceptual, and psychomotor abilities. Three possible sources of extraneous variance in the test scores were investigated: order effects, practice effects, and effects of changes in test instructions. In addition, pencil and paper versions of new biodata and spatial items were tested. As part of the work to counteract falsification on self-report instruments, forms of the Assessment of Background and Life Experiences (ABLE) were administered under various instructional sets. Finally, scores for two of the computerized tests were compared with archival scores on pencil-and-paper versions from Project A to determine possible effects of medium of administration on test performance. Approaches to dealing with the sources of variance other than ability are discussed, and needs for follow-on research are identified.

Book Validation of the General Classification Test for Selection of Commissioning from the Ranks Candidates

Download or read book Validation of the General Classification Test for Selection of Commissioning from the Ranks Candidates written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The General Classification test is used in screening all officer candidates for the Canadian Forces. This paper summarizes the research conducted evaluating the test's predictive validity in selecting candidates nominated under the Commissioning From the Ranks program. On-job performance, as measured by the Performance Evaluation Report, was used as the criterion. Results indicated that the GC correlated significantly with the intellect component of officer performance, as identified by a factor analysis, but not with other performance factors. Similar results were found using a comparison sample of officers-in-general.

Book Air Force Officer Qualifying Test AFOQT Form P Test Construction

Download or read book Air Force Officer Qualifying Test AFOQT Form P Test Construction written by Frances R. Berger and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1951, the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT) has been part of the selection process for officer commissioning programs and pilot and navigator training. The latest of 15 successive forms of the AFOQT, Form O, contains 380 items organized into 16 subtests which form five composites: Pilot, Navigator Technical, Academic Aptitude, Verbal, and Quantitative. The anticipated need for future forms of the AFOQT prompted the development of a large pool of experimental items. Approximately 4,800 items were developed and administered (along with Form O items) to basic airmen and officer cadets attending military training programs. The immediate goal was to construct a follow-on AFOQT Form P in two parallel forms. Item analyses of the experimental test results provided item difficulty and discrimination data that helped to guide the selection of new and Form O items for Form P. Resemblance to Form O in psychometric properties, content, and style was the criterion for Form P item selection. Preliminary analyses of the newly constructed forms (P1 and P2) indicated that they were highly similar to each other as well as being comparable to Form O in content, item difficulty, and item discriminative power. Follow-on research with additional military samples is recommended to assess more fully the parallelism among the three forms. Keywords; aptitude tests, mental abilities testing officer selection, officer classification, test construction. (sdw).
