Book An Examination Into and an Elucidation of the Great Principle of the Mediation and Atonement

Download or read book An Examination Into and an Elucidation of the Great Principle of the Mediation and Atonement written by John Taylor and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Examination Into and an Elucidation of the Great Principle of the Mediation and Atonement: Of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ A very important principle is here enunciated, one in which the interests of the whole human family throughout all the world are involved. That principle is the Offering up Of the Son of God, as a sacrifice, an atonement and a propitiation for our sins. Jesus said, He came not to do His will, but the will Of His Father, who sent Him. He came, as we are told, to take away sin by the sacrifice of Himself; and not only did He come, but He came in accordance with certain pre conceived ideas that had been entertained and testified of by Prophets and men of God in all preceding ages, or from the days of Adam to the days of John the Baptist, the latter being His precursor or forerunner, who indeed, when he saw Him coming, made the declar ation, Behold the Lamb Of God, who taketh away the sin of the world. At His baptism' the Spirit Of God bore witness to this testimony and descended upon Jesus in the form Of a dove, or, rather, the form of a dove was the sign of the Holy Spirit; whilst a voice was heard from heaven proclaiming: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. This manifestation Of God's acknowledgment of His beloved Son was spoken Of by personal witnesses who bore record to the facts. Matthew testifies: Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. But John forbade him, saying, I have need to be baptized Of thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straight way out of the water: and lo, the heavens were Opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And 10, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.' - Matthew, iii, 13 - 17. Whilst Mark relates, And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. And straightway com ing up out of the water, he saw the heavens Opened, and the Spirit like a. Dove descending upon him. And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my be loved Son, in whom I am well pleased. - Mark, i, 9 - 11. Book The Message of Jesus to Men of Wealth Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Message of Jesus to Men of Wealth Classic Reprint written by George D. Herron and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Message of Jesus to Men of Wealth Among the notable signs Of the times is what might be called, for lack of a better term, the intellectual supremacy of Jesus Christ. He has always commanded the conscience even when the will has rebelled. For nineteen hundred years men have acknowledged Him to be the loftiest exemplar of all moral excellence even though they refused to follow in His footsteps. Men have willingly conceded to Him the deepest Spirit ual insight and the highest authority touching religious truth, even though they deemed the Sermon on the Mount inapplicable to practical life. They are now beginning to see that His Words contain the solution of the great problems of this life, as well as of that which IS to come that He 18 the Saviour of society no less than of individual souls; that to disregard His teachings is poor statesmanship and bad political economy as well as bad morals and irreligion. Property is one of the central facts of civilization. Its production, transportation and distribution, engage men's industries; its acquisition is the common object of endeavor; the love of it is the root of all evil. It would have been strange indeed if the Great Teacher had had little or nothing to say concerning so great a factor in human life. As a matter of fact he had very much to say concerning it, not only by way of illustration, but also touching the fundamental principles of its use. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Looking Unto Jesus: A View of the Everlasting Gospel, or the Soul's Eyeing of Jesus, as Carrying on the Great Work of Man's Salvation, From First to Last The most excellent subject to' discourse or write of, -is jesus christ. Augustine, having read Cicero' s works, commended'them for their eloquence; but he passed this sentence upon them, They are not sweet, because the name of Jesusis not in them. And Bernard's saying is near the same, If thou writest, it doth not relish with me, unless I read Jesus there; if thou disputest or conferrest, it doth not relish well with me, unless Jesus sound there. Indeed all we say is but unsavory, if it be not seasoned with this salt, I determined not to know any thing among you, (saith Paul, ) save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. He resolved with' him self, before he preached among the Corinthians, that this should be the Only point Of knowledge, that he would profess'himself to'have skill in; and that, in the course of his ministry he would labor to bring them to: this he made the breadth, and length, and depth, and'height of his know ledge yea, doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge, of Christ Jesus my Lord. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Great Salvation I Every institution, whether secular or religious, has certain fundamental principles that determine its character, and out of which everything connected with it of a practical nature naturally and necessarily springs. In order to a clear and comprehensive view Of the system, it is of the utmost importance to Obtain a proper understanding of its great elementary fundamental principles. These truths find strong confirmation when applied to the religion of the Lord Jesus Christ. In order to a clear understanding of its character, and an adequate conception of its practical applications and possible blessings, a knowledge of certain fundamental matters called First Principles is imperative; It is the purpose of this volume to give; not, perhaps, an exhaustive, but a somewhat comprehensive, view of The First Principles of the Gospel of Christ, beginning with a consideration of the recog nized moral malady of sin, thence passing Onward to a study of the divine remedy as revealed in the gospel, thus tracing the path in the progress of the soul from the state of deprav ity even unto the blessed consummation of a perfect character; or, in other words, considering the steps in the journey of man from the Paradise Lost to the Paradise Regained.
