Download or read book Of Acorns and of Lobsters written by B. G. Emtage and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-01-30 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ~If you could wish for whatever you wanted, and keep it for half an hour, what would you wish for? Twin princes Barth and Aden are given this fairy-gift when they are named, and use it for unseemly purposes. The fairy responsible for giving them this gift is already under house-arrest for earlier lobster-related crimes... While the King and Queen wish they could train their boys how not to end up slaves to "whatever their hearts desire", it may take something more... Or perhaps a someone with a pigeon in his pocket.~ The reputable gnome, Sir Neltum Furnabay, is thought to have first recorded this volume and to be the one responsible for leaving it under a wheelbarrow in my vegetable garden, (and there were very clear little tracks between the carrots). I asked my cat if she thought it was Neltum, and if she had given him a hard time in delivering the manuscript (she likes to chase things) but she wouldnt say. But I suppose that gnomes are far too clever to get eaten by a house cat what with surviving Lagon-Cockles, and criminal fairies, and uncouth garden parties already. I also suppose that he would have left the manuscript with the intent that more people would get to read it than just me. I suppose it to be an honest history of Fenathon, and the royal family there, and really written by this particular gnome, because no gnome that Ive ever met has been in the habit of just making up stories or assuming false pen names. Only humans do that sort of thing. I hope you are having a good day, Dear Reader, and that you will consider this brilliant work well worth your time.
Download or read book Milton Acorn written by Richard Lemm and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1999 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A biography of one of Canada's leading poets. Traces Acorn's roots in Prince Edward Island and shows that family, landscape, and the troubled shades of postcolonial society were continuous spurs to his creative life. Connects his self-perpetuated image as a working-class rebel, and his peculiar brand of communism, to his employment history and experience of war. His troubled relationships with family and friends, and his ill health, are explored as sources both of pain and inspiration. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Book excerpt: Other than that it tastes delicious with butter, what do you know about the knobbily-armoured, scarlet creature staring back at you from your fancy dinner plate? Food writer Elisabeth Townsend here charts the global rise of the lobster as delicacy. Part of the Edible Series, Lobster: A Global History explores the use and consumption of the lobster from poor man’s staple to cultural icon. From coastal fishing in the Middle Ages to the Industrial Revolution and modern times, Townsend describes the social history of the consumption of lobsters around the world. As well, the book includes beautiful images of rarely seen lobsters and both old and contemporary lobster recipes. Whether you want to liberate lobsters from their supermarket tanks or crack open their claws, this is an essential read, describing the human connection to the lobster from his ocean home to the dinner table.
Download or read book A History of Sarcasm written by Frank Burton and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2009 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sometimes stories that I've used to mythologize my childhood resurface in my mind as actual memories ... Perhaps if you tell a story enough times, it will become the truth." This admission by Mark Greensleeves, in 'Some Facts About Me', sums up Frank Burton's sharp, surreal and subversive short story collection, A History of Sarcasm. The seventeen stories in this collection blur the boundaries between fact and fantasy through a series of obsessive characters and their skewed versions of reality. Among them are a man who insists on living every aspect of his life in alphabetical order, a girl who believes she is receiving secret messages through the TV, a paranoiac who is pursued by an army of giant lobsters, and an academic werecat.
Download or read book There Might Be Lobsters written by Carolyn Crimi and published by Candlewick Press. This book was released on 2022-02-01 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Come on, Sukie, you can do it! A little dog’s paralyzing anxiety gives way to bravery when someone smaller is in need in this humorous, tenderly sympathetic story. Lots of things at the beach scare Sukie. Lots. Because she is just a small dog, and the stairs are big and sandy, and the waves are big and whooshy, and the balls are big and beachy. And besides, there might be lobsters. With endearing illustrations and a perfectly paced text that captures a timid pup’s looping thoughts, here is a funny and honest read-aloud about how overwhelming the world can be when you're worried — and how empowering it is to overcome your fears when it matters the most.
