Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The doubly Cabibbo suppressed decayed D+ → K+[pi]-[pi]+, D+ → K+[pi]0and D+ → K*+[pi]0 are searched for in a 9.56 pb-1 data sample of e+e- annihilation events collected near the [psi](3770) resonance with the Mark 3 detector at the SPEAR storage ring, at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. These rare weak decays are naively expected at a rate of tan4[theta]c relative to corresponding Cabibbo allowed decays. In the context of presently accepted models of hadronic weak decays, however, they are anticipated to be enhanced, making their experimental detection feasible in the Mark 3 data set. The experimentally simplest decay channel D+ → K+[pi]-[pi]+ is searched for inclusively through conventional analysis techniques. A signal of approximately 2.5 [sigma] significance is obtained. An independent analysis is performed to establish examples of this decay of D+ → K+[pi]0 and K*+[pi]0 by full reconstruction of D+D-events. Exploiting the two body kinematics of [psi](3770) → D$\bar{D}$, this second approach obtains significantly smaller backgrounds than the inclusive study. Consistent with the inclusive results, three D+ → K+[pi]-[pi]+ candidate events are observed. No events are observed for either D+ → K+[pi]0 or K*+[pi]0. The branching fraction for D+ → K+[pi]-[pi]+ is measured, and limits are established on the branching fractions for D+ → K+[pi]0 and K*+[pi]0. These results are used to confront the theoretical predictions from models of the weak hadronic decays of charmed mesons.

Book D anti D Mixing and Doubly Cabibbo suppressed Decays of the D

Download or read book D anti D Mixing and Doubly Cabibbo suppressed Decays of the D written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes results from Fermilab experiment E791 on D°-{anti D}° mixing and doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decays of the D meson. In order to search for D°-{anti D}° mixing, the authors use only D° mesons from D{sup *+} decays in which case the charge of the pion from the D{sup *+} decay identifies the charm quantum number of the D° at birth. When the D° decays, the charge of the kaon identifies the charm quantum number and this way one can tell if mixing has occurred. This kind of search can be carried out by CLEO II as well and their conclusion was that there is some evidence of a wrong sign signal (0.77 ± 0.25 ± 0.25)% of the right sign signal. However, because of a lack of lifetime information, they cannot distinguish between doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decays which are expected at the level of the observed signal and mixing. They use their excellent lifetime sensitivity to obtain separate limits. During the past year, the authors have been working on extracting D+ doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay signals from E791s̀ data sample. These decays are interesting both because they have never been observed and because definite predictions have been made about their rates, based on models of D mesons and their decay mechanisms. Preliminary analyses of 1/3 of the data have now been completed. Figure 3 shows the Cabibbo-favored signal D+ → K−?+?+ and the next figure shows the signal in the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed mode D+ → K+?−?−.

This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: We present a data analysis using 124.3 fb−1 of data from the BaBar detector. The analysis is a measurement of the branching fractions for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay mode BF([meson] [to] [pion] [pion]0) = (1.21 " 0.10 (stat.) " 0.08 (sys.) " 0.08 (pdg)) x 10−3 and for the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay mode BF([meson]+ [to] [kaon]+ [pion]0)= (2.11 " 0.43 (stat.) " 0.15 (sys.) " 0.16 (pdg)) x 10−4, where the first error is statistical, the second is systematic and the last is due to the D absolute branching fraction scale.

Book Cabibbo suppressed Decays of the D Meson

Download or read book Cabibbo suppressed Decays of the D Meson written by Chul Gwon and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: (N.b.: In the following abstract, non-ALA braces have been replaced with brackets.) Using 13.7 fb[-1] from the CLEO II and II. V detectors, we measure the branching ratios for two singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay modes: BR(D -> pi+ pi0) = (1.3 +/- 0.2)*10[-3] and BR(D+ -> Ks K+) = (5.2 +/- 0.6)*10[-3]. We also determine an upper limit on the branching ratio of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay mode BR(D+ -> K+ pi0)

Book Recent Results on D Meson Decays from the MARK III

Download or read book Recent Results on D Meson Decays from the MARK III written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The MARK III Collaboration recently completed the analysis of a number of decay modes of charged and neutral D mesons produced in electron-positron collisions near the peak of the psi(3770) resonance at SLAC's SPEAR storage ring. The mesons were produced nearly at rest in pairs, either DD− or D° anti D°, at a center-of-mass energy below the threshold for DD production. The unique kinematics of the production allow us to isolate the charmed meson signal clearly and unambiguously. The data were collected with the MARK III Spectrometer, a large solid angle magnetic detector. Our data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 9.3 inverse picobarns. New results will be presented on the absolute branching ratios of D mesons into hadronic final states, branching ratios for three body decays via pseudoscalar-vector intermediate states, and branching ratios for Cabibbo allowed and Cabibbo suppressed decays. Inclusive and exclusive branching ratios for the semi-leptonic decays of D mesons will be presented, as well as the first measurement of the vector form factor in the decay D° .-->. K−e, nu, evidence for interference in D+ decays, and new information on the contributions of W exchange diagrams to D° decays.

Book New Suppressed Decays of Bs Mesons at CDF

Download or read book New Suppressed Decays of Bs Mesons at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The observation of new suppressed B{sub s}° decays, B{sub s}° → J/[Psi]K*(892)° and B{sub s}° → J/[Psi]K{sub s}°, and the measurement of their branching ratios is presented. This measurement is based on an integrated luminosity of 5.9 fb−1 of CDF data collected by a dedicated di-muon trigger. A cut based optimization is carried out for the observation of B{sub s}° → J/[Psi]K*°, while a neural network is used for the B{sub s}° → J/[Psi]K{sub s}°. In addition to the observation of the new decay modes, the ratios of branching fractions to the reference B° decays are measured.

Book D Meson Hadronic Decays at CLEO c

Download or read book D Meson Hadronic Decays at CLEO c written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent CLEO-c results on hadronic decays of D and D{sub s} mesons are presented. First the absolute branching fractions for D and D{sub s} mesons using a double tag technique are discussed, then are the Cabibbo suppressed decays and doubly Cabibbo suppressed decays. Finally, I present the inclusive and rare decay modes and other measurements from CLEO-c. These decays illuminate a wide range of physics. A brief theoretical introduction is given before the corresponding discussion on measurement.

Book Searches for CP Violation in Charmed Meson Decays

Download or read book Searches for CP Violation in Charmed Meson Decays written by Hamish Gordon and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-07 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our current understanding of the fundamental building blocks of the Universe, summarised by the Standard Model of particle physics, is incomplete. For example, it fails to explain why we do not see equal, or almost equal, numbers of particles and their antiparticle partners. To explain this asymmetry requires, among other effects, a mechanism known as charge-parity (CP) violation that causes differences between the rates at which particles and antiparticles decay. CP violation is seen in systems containing bottom and strange quarks, but not in those with up, charm or top quarks. This thesis describes searches for particle-antiparticle asymmetries in the decay rates of charmed mesons. No evidence of CP violation is found. With current sensitivities, an asymmetry large enough to observe probably could not be explained by the Standard Model. Instead an explanation could come from new physics, for example contributions from supersymmetric or other undiscovered heavy particles. In the thesis, the development of new techniques to search for these asymmetries is described. They are applied to data from the LHCb experiment at CERN to make precise measurements of asymmetries in the D^+->K^-K^+pi^+ decay channel. This is the most promising charged D decay for CP violation searches.
