Ces dernières ont mis en exergue les compétences précoces de l'enfant et les apprentissages fondamentaux, nécessaires au calcul mental. Les travaux menés jusqu'à présent ont bien décrit les procédures de résolution d'opérations arithmétiques chez l'enfant tout-venant. Nous avons souhaité compléter ces travaux en étudiant les raisons de l'immaturité de ces procédures chez les enfants présentant un déficit en arithmétique. Nous avons rencontré trente-deux enfants âgés de 8 à 10 ans, parmi lesquels des enfants tout-venant et des enfants bénéficiant d'une rééducation orthophonique. Un protocole leur a été proposé. L'évaluation du calcul a porté sur les additions, les soustractions et les multiplications. Nous avons également proposé une épreuve de décomposition additive, deux épreuves de mémoire de travail auditivo-verbale et une épreuve de mémoire de travail visuo-spatiale. Les performances en mémoire à long terme et les connaissances de faits arithmétiques ont également été vérifiées. Les résultats obtenus ont permis de mettre en évidence des liens entre certaines épreuves. Selon notre étude, le calcul serait fortement corrélé aux performances en décomposition additive, mais non lié aux performances en mémoire de travail. De plus, des différences significatives entre les deux groupes d'enfants ont été mises en évidences sur certaines des tâches proposées. Il nous semble donc qu'une décomposition additive non automatisée pourrait expliquer l'immaturité des procédures de résolution d'opérations arithmétiques chez certains enfants. Notre étude apporte donc de nouvelles pistes quant à la prise en charge orthophonique des patients présentant des troubles du calcul
