Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We ask God to involve himself providentially in our lives, yet we cherish our freedom to choose and act. Employing both theological reflection and philosophical analysis, the author explores how to resolve the interesting and provocative puzzles arising from these seemingly conflicting desires. He inquires what sovereignty means and how sovereigns balance their power and prerogatives with the free responses of their subjects. Since we are physically embodied in a physical world, we also need to ask how this is compatible with our being free agents. Providence raises questions about God's fundamental attributes. The author considers what it means to affirm God's goodness as logically contingent, how being almighty interfaces with God's self-limitation, and the persistent problems that arise from claiming that God foreknows the future. Discussion of these divine properties spills over into the related issues of why God allows, or even causes, pain and suffering; why, if God is all-knowing, we need to petition God repeatedly and encounter so many unanswered prayers; and how miracles, as ways God acts in the world, are possible and knowable. Throughout, the author looks at Scripture and attends to how providence deepens our understanding of God and enriches our lives.

Book excerpt: Are beliefs in God and in the soul merely relics of pre-scientific superstition? After all, in the twentieth and twenty-first centuriesthe so-called age of sciencewe know that science can be proven by its fruits: its helped us split the atom and put men on the moon. Religious faith, on the other hand, couldnt accomplish these feats. This conflict leaves modern-day Christians challenged by materialist atheists who claim that faith in God has been discredited by modern physics and psychology. The Divine Sting answers their challenge. Contrary to what most Christians think, belief in God and the soul need not remain matters of religious faith. In fact, it is the atheists themselves who ignore Einsteins shocking revelation about modern sciencethat the physical universe, including the human body and its brain, have never been observed. We have rather only observed mental effects whose source we can only guess at. Atheists naive claims about scientific observation are themselves nothing less than an article of anti-scientific faith. By integrating facts traditionally segregated into categories of philosophy versus theology versus modern science, The Divine Sting will assist you in discovering for yourself how to convert faith in God and belief in the soul into solid, impregnable, and justifiably certain science.

Book Divine Love Theory

  • Author : Adam Lloyd Johnson
  • Publisher : Kregel Publications

  • ISBN : 0825477875
  • Pages : 319 pages

Download or read book Divine Love Theory written by Adam Lloyd Johnson and published by Kregel Publications. This book was released on 2023-03-14 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if the loving relationships of the Trinity are the ultimate, objective source for living morally? Adam Lloyd Johnson injects a fresh yet eternal reality into the thriving debate over the basis of moral absolutes. While postmodernism's moral relativism once temporarily disrupted the footing of classic moral theories like natural law and divine command, many nontheistic philosophers assert that morality must rest on something real and objective. Divine Love Theory proposes a grounding for morality not only in the creator God but as revealed in the Christian Scriptures--Father, Son, and Spirit eternally loving one another. Johnson contends that the Trinity provides a remarkably convincing foundation for making moral judgments. One leading atheistic proposal, godless normative realism, finds many deficiencies in theistic and Christian theories, yet Johnson shows how godless normative realism is susceptible to similar errors. He then demonstrates how the loving relationships of the Trinity as outlined in historic Christian theology resolve many of the weakest points in both theistic and atheistic moral theories. "Johnson leaves no stone unturned, his research is exceptional, and his topic and treatment of it are first-rate. I very strongly recommend this book." --J. P. Moreland, distinguished professor of philosophy, Talbot School of Theology, Biola University "Divine Love Theory is an important and original contribution to the on-going contemporary debate between theists and non-theists over the foundations of morality. It is a work that will be of interest to theologians and philosophers alike." --Erik Wielenberg, professor of philosophy, DePauw University "Johnson's own proposal is a refreshing and insightful address that is often missed in the moral debate of mere theism: Trinitarianism. Divine Love Theory is at once more consistent with the largest theistic population, Christians, but also provides greater explanatory power over competitors, theistic and atheistic alike." --Corey Miller, President of Ratio Christi

Book Is Divine Energy

    Book Details:
  • Author : Vipin Gupta

  • Pages : 531 pages

Download or read book Is Divine Energy written by Vipin Gupta and published by Vipin Gupta. This book was released on 2021 with total page 531 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is Divine Energy: The secret of the limitless immanent value is a profound explanation of why divine is a state of mind. Our divinity is the impact we make through our conscious decisions. We also reproduce transcendental divinity by para-consciously letting our decisions be guided by a para entity’s divine plan. After that, we seek to invest our divine energy to compensate for programmatic, evolution-guided behaviors and become a revolutionary servicing our supernatural impact. What begins with a linear proportionality of each person’s intrinsic divinity transforms into a nonlinear proportionality of the extrinsic divinity and motivates a parabolic proportionality of the person’s present, absolute divinity. The infinity of microcosmic parabolic reactions constitutes a chaotic reality at the macrocosmic level. The chaotic reality lets the first moving, primordial entities enjoy a disproportionate conscious benefit of growth in their divinity. The later evolving, primeval entities suffer a disproportionate conscious cost of entropy in their divinity. At any moment, the present entity has a choice not to be either the evolved and constrained follower or the revolving and constraining leader. A present entity may decide to be a freedom entrepreneur, inspiring everybody to be the revolutionary and appropriate the entire evolutionary benefit of devoted followership of the perpetuating para deity oneself. For avoiding the certainty of the survival of only the one who is free from the two-dimensional present-effect as the fittest, we need to master the technique of responsibly managing the divine element. Is Divine Energy highlights how by opening one’s mind, one may become free from the theory-effect of a culturally-binding primordial creator and the ideal-effect of a consciousness-binding absolute creature. It demonstrates how each primeval creation of Mother Nature can enjoy the limitless transformations of the desired mood, destiny, divinity, and eternity using the self as the immanent value. It elegantly integrates and resolves grand challenges in a range of scientific disciplines and metaphysical discourses. Dr. Vipin Gupta has a Ph.D. in managerial science and applied economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a gold medalist from the Post-graduate Program of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India. He is a Professor of sensible management and appropriate science at the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration, California State University San Bernardino, USA.

This multi-year collaboration involved over 50 authors meeting at five international conferences. The essays collected here demonstrate the pervasive role of philosophy in this dialogue. Book Divine Agency and Divine Action Volume I

Download or read book Divine Agency and Divine Action Volume I written by William J. Abraham and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-10-20 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Divine Agency and Divine Action, Volume I lays the groundwork for a constructive contribution to the contemporary debate regarding divine action. Noted scholar, William J. Abraham argues that the concept of divine action is not a closed concept-like knowledge-but an open concept with a variety of context-dependent meanings. The volume charts the history of debate about divine action among key Anglophone philosophers of religion, and observes that they were largely committed to this erroneous understanding of divine action as a closed concept. After developing an argument that divine action should be understood as an open, fluid concept, Abraham engages the work of William Alston, Process metaphysics, quantum physics, analytic Thomist philosophy of religion, and the theology of Kathryn Tanner. Abraham argues that divine action as an open concept must be shaped by distinctly theological considerations, and thus all future work on divine action among philosophers of religion must change to accord with this vision. Only deep engagement with the Christian theological tradition will remedy the problems ailing contemporary discourse on divine action.
