This book was released on 2024-01-12 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This series of technical notes is produced on different topics of a national nutrition information system (NNIS) that are included in the first-ever global guidance on NNIS published in 2021. While the fundamental modules of the guidance describe the basics of a NNIS, each technical note deals with a specific topical area and presents details on those topics. The technical notes will help design and implement a NNIS and/or integrate a nutrition information system in the existing health management information system. The success of a national nutrition information system depends predominantly on how to transform data into actionable evidence. Data visualization involves the use of graphic displays of data to tell a story in a simpler way. This technical note presents tips for selecting and producing effective data visualizations for a wide range of purposes and audiences. It complements the technical note “The power of nutrition dashboards, profiles and scorecards”.

Book Food and Nutrition

Download or read book Food and Nutrition written by Paul Fieldhouse and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-12-14 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As someone who was trained in the clinical sdentific tradition it took me several years to start to appreciate that food was more than a collection of nutrients, and that most people did not make their choices of what to eat on the biologically rational basis of nutritional composition. This realiza tion helped tobring me to an understanding of why people didn't always eat what (I believed) was good for them, and why the patients I had seen in hospital as often as not had failed to follow the dietary advice I had so confidently given. When I entered the field of health education I quickly discovered the farnaus World Health Organization definition of health as being a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease. Health was a triangle -and I had been guilty of virtu ally ignoring two sides of that triangle. As I became involved in practical nutrition education initiatives the deficiencies of an approach based on giving information about nutrition and physical health became more and more apparent. The children whom I saw in schools knew exactly what to say when asked to describe a nutritious diet: they could recite the food guide and list rich sources of vitamins and minerals; but none of this intellectual knowledge was reflected in their own actual eating habits.

Book Food Labeling Background Papers

Download or read book Food Labeling Background Papers written by United States. Food and Drug Administration and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The issues raised by the Food and Drug Administration, USDA, and the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection in reaching joint decisions regarding food labeling are discussed. While no definite enforcement plans were decided upon, it was agreed that all ingredients must be declared on the labels of standized foods. The agencies suggest further study before ruling on the necessity of requiring such labels on foods sold to restaurants. In addition the quantitative listing of ingredients is encouraged on products. Policies permitting the grouping of products instead of separate listings will be restricted. A simplified format of the label itself is recommended to improve the communication of nutrition information to the consumer. Including information (such as potassium, sugar, fiber and cholesterol content) with the sodium content of a product is also recommended.
