Book The Top 100 American Situation Comedies

These have all had something in common--subjective criteria based on the authors' opinions. This book attempts an objective ranking of the best 100 American sitcoms, based on a mathematical formula taking into account four factors: ratings, longevity, peer acceptance and spawning of other programs (spin-offs). The authors considered a field of 377 series which met at least one of four criteria: aired for at least three seasons; rated among top 30 series in at least one season; received at least one major Emmy nomination; or spawned at least one other series. A critical essay is provided for each series, along with air dates and cast listings.

Book Paradoxes in Nurses Identity Culture and Image

Download or read book Paradoxes in Nurses Identity Culture and Image written by Margaret McAllister and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-01-29 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines some of the more disturbing representations of nurses in popular culture, to understand nursing’s complex identities, challenges and future directions. It critically analyses disquieting representations of nurses who don’t care, who kill, who inspire fear or who do not comply with laws and policies. Also addressed are stories about how power is used, as well as supernatural experiences in nursing. Using a series of examples taken from popular culture ranging from film, television and novels to memoirs and true crime podcasts, it interrogates the meaning of the shadow side of nursing and the underlying paradoxes that influence professional identity. Iconic nursing figures are still powerful today. Decades after they were first created, Ratched and Annie Wilkes continue to make readers and viewers shudder at the prospect of ever being ill. Modern storytelling modes are bringing to audiences the grim reality that some nurses are members of the working poor, like Cath Hardacre in Trust Me, and others can be dangerous con artists, like the nurse in Dirty John. This book is important reading for all those interested in understanding the links between nursing’s image and the profession’s potential as an agent for change.

Download or read book Nurse Jack written by Jack S Houston and published by . This book was released on 2020-11-06 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through these true stories, I wanted to tell a reality that is not often told, or realized by the general public. Nursing is a very demanding job, no matter what field you work in. Most nurses are hard-working, conscientious, and display empathy when most people would not be able to. Sadly, some nurses are not up to the task, I must admit, which often results in negligence. Often people - our patients - suffer because of this. This book tells several true stories about nurses and doctors alike who have sex with their patients, and each other. Also, it talks about rape, and how hospital staff have covered it up. I have written about drug and alcohol abuse on the job. Even cases where nurses deprived their own patients of narcotics, or pain killers, only to ingest them themselves, and give their patients a placebo. Some stories outline how nursing staff are so very often injured and knowingly placed in danger. Often both the doctor and management could have easily intervened to help avoid these incidents. Sadly, I talk about the many child molesters and rapists who are let out to roam the streets, against the nursing staff's wishes. These same patients reoffend regularly. The general public should know what really goes on as there are many horrible things that happen due to negligence or greed. It is important to make note of these realities. The majority of staff I have worked with have impressed me on countless occasions with their empathy, dedication, and self-sacrifice to help their patients. Like most things in life, it only takes a few bad apples to spoil everything. "If you're a fan of ER or Grey's Anatomy, you'll want to read this book."

But Milly’s spells of protection weaken as her wolf stalks the hospital corridors. The ward’s a Dark Wood, and she’s not alone. As her power crumbles, she must let go of her magic and discover new weapons if she is to transform from hunted to hunter. "Stewart lets the story do the talking in a world populated by fabulous supporting characters and full of surprises. Counting Wolves is an engaging read for teens and adults alike," Wesley King, author of the Silver Birch and Edgar Award winner OCDaniel. "This fast-paced deconstruction of mental illness, reminiscent of Neal Shusterman's Challenger Deep, takes a hard look at the stigma of mental illness. The prose here is superb. It is quick, sharp, and easy to read--and it keeps readers turning pages." The BookLife Prize.
