Book excerpt: Ever wonder what it would be like to have no crime in the United States; to have no criminal courts or judges. The cost of crime in this country is estimated to be around one trillion dollars a year. Can you imagine what it would be like to have that kind of cash infused into the economy. Ever wonder why we think and do the things we do. What would happen if time went backwards or why we think we need to do things better? Why it seems that solving one mystery uncovers ten more or why is there music? Why you grab an umbrella when it rains? The reader will experience a strange but truly enjoyable experience. Nuraya not only tantalizes the reader with hermetic theories and long-lost ancient Egyptian magic, but also addresses tough modern issues such as the U.S. justice system, child abuse, and South African politics.

Book History and Ideology in the Old Testament Prophetic Literature

Download or read book History and Ideology in the Old Testament Prophetic Literature written by Antti Laato and published by Coronet Books. This book was released on 1996 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study arguments are put forward for the thesis that biblical exegesis (of the Old Testament prophetic literature) is not a simple matter of interpreting texts but is also a process in which logical models or possible worlds are constructed to accommodate the validity of particular interpretations. The lack of a model-theoretical orientation to Old Testament methodological approaches has led to a situation in which the criticism of particular theories rarely addresses the real points of disagreement between scholars. One theory is simply set against another even though the theories would be more effectively evaluated by discussing the validity and relevance of the different models in which they are framed. There are various plausible and relevant models available for the interpretation of Old Testament texts. In order to compare these different models a metalogical system, Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotics, has been used throughout this study. Many important methodological issues are discussed in this study. a.

Book excerpt: This book explores the impact of, and lessons learned from, media development and training programs sponsored by the US government and non-governmental organizations in countries transitioning to democracy. Drawing on the author’s and other media trainers’ experiences over a 25-year period, this book provides important insights into tailoring training programs to specific regions and countries. Case studies describe training in radio and television management, broadcasting, and media sustainability, and are contextualized against the cultural and historical backgrounds of each region. Media Training in Transition Countries will be of interest to media trainers, government and nongovernment agencies, and scholars and students of international journalism and development.
