Book Numerical Simulation of Plasmas

Download or read book Numerical Simulation of Plasmas written by Y.N. Dnestrovskii and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to mathematical modeling of tokamak plasma. Since the appearance in 1982 of the first edition (in Russian), a considerable amount of experimental and theoretical material on tokamak research has been accumu lated. The new-generation devices, viz. , TFTR, JET and JT-60 were put into operation. The first experiments on these units have confirmed the correctness of the basic physical concepts underlying their construction. Experiments on plasma heating with the help of neutral beams and high-frequency (HF) waves on previous generation devices made it possible to obtain high-P plasmas. The number of "medium-size" tokamaks in operation has increased. New experi mental results and advances in the theory have led to more complicated and perfected models of high-temperature plasma. Rapid progress in computer hardware and software has played an important role in the further development of mathematical modeling. While preparing the English edition of the book, we have revised the text considerably. Several new models which have undergone significant advance ment in recent years are described. A section devoted to models of RF (radio frequency) current drive has been added to Chap. 2. The reduced magneto hydrodynamic (MHD) equations for high-P plasma are now considered in detail in Chap. 3. Chapter 4 contains the latest results on anomalous thermal conductivity, diffusion coefficient and pinching. Two new sections are added to Chap. 5.

Book Numerical Simulation of Plasmas at Princeton i

Download or read book Numerical Simulation of Plasmas at Princeton i written by John Myrick Dawson and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A program on numerical plasma simulation was undertaken. The following codes were developed: One- and two-dimensional models using finite-sized particles and including only electrostatic interactions between particles; One, one and a half (two velocities and one position), two, and two and a half (three velocities and two positions) codes were developed using finite-sized particles, electrostatic particle interactions and a fixed magnetic field; A three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic fluid model was developed. Extensive checks on the accuracy and reliability of the codes were made. The codes were applied to a number of problems in plasma turbulence and nonlinear behavior. Brief summaries of the work are attached. They are taken from the Annual Report of the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory.

Boris and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 762 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Conference was comprised of our sessions. The first session was composed of advanced numerical models and programming methods for computer representation of plasmas. The second session, designated computational sciences, was comprised entirely of invited papers which dealt with numerical techniques in fields other than plasma physics. The third session dealt with numerical methods for the solution of plasma models other than particle simulation. The fourth session included the theory of particle simulation as well as detailed optimization techniques.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas discharge plasma is the most common type of low-temperature plasma, with a large number of practical applications covering almost all areas of modern science and technology. This book is an introduction to the numerical modeling methods for gas discharge plasmas. It is intended to assist and direct graduate students and junior researchers, whose research activity deals with computational plasma physics. Topics covered include the essentials of basic modelling approaches (particle, fluid, and hybrid) for gas discharges, and the implementation of these methods with examples of glow (DC and RF) discharges. Numerical studies of nonlinear dynamics and formation of spatio-temporal patterns in gas discharge systems are also presented. Key Features Focuses solely on gas discharge plasmas Covers basic modelling techniques, including particle, fluid, and hybrid Provides details of applications and implementation for the considered methods Special emphasis is given to the applicability and reliability of different modelling techniques Provides specific examples of numerical simulations of the gas discharge plasmas

Book Computational Plasma Science

Download or read book Computational Plasma Science written by Shigeo Kawata and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-09 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents fundamentals of plasma physics with rich references and computational techniques in a concise manner. It particularly focuses on introductions to numerical simulation methods in plasma physics, in addition to those to physics and mathematics in plasma physics. It also presents the fundamentals of numerical methods, which solve mathematical models of plasmas, together with examples of numerical results. A discretization method, the so-called finite difference method, is introduced for particle-in-cell methods and fluid codes, which have been widely employed in plasma physics studies. In addition to the introduction to numerical solutions, it also covers numerical stability. The instabilities and numerical errors significantly influence the results, and for correct results, great efforts are required to avoid such numerical artifacts. The book also carefully discusses the numerical errors, numerical stability, and uncertainty in numerical computations. Readers are expected to have an understanding of fundamental physics of mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, statistical physics, relativity, fluid dynamics, and mathematics, but the book does not assume background knowledge on plasma. Therefore, it is a first book of plasma physics for upper undergraduate and early graduate students who are interested in learning it.
