Book The Structure of the Nucleon

Download or read book The Structure of the Nucleon written by Anthony W. Thomas and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-11-17 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the only stable baryon, the nucleon is of crucial importance in particle physics. Since the nucleon is a building block for all atomic nuclei, there is a need to analyse the its structure in order to fully understand the essential properties of all atomic nuclei. After more than forty years of research on the nucleon, both the experimental and theoretical situations have matured to a point where a synthesis of the results becomes indispensable. Here, A.W. Thomas and W. Weise present a unique report on the extensive empirical studies, theoretical foundations and the different models of the nucleon. The appendices provide an extensive summary of formulae needed in practical calculations. From the contents: electromagnetic structure of the nucleon, weak probes of nucleon structure, deep inelastic lepton scattering on the nucleon; elements of QCD, aspects of non-perturbative QCD, Chiral Symmetry and nucleon structure, models of the nucleon

Book MEASUREMENT OF ANTI NEUTRINO NUCLEON STRUCTURE FUNCTIONS IN CHORUS EXPERIMENT

Download or read book MEASUREMENT OF ANTI NEUTRINO NUCLEON STRUCTURE FUNCTIONS IN CHORUS EXPERIMENT written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work an analysis of the CHORUS (anti- )neutrino-nucleon scattering data taken on lead--scintillator calorimeter during the 1998 run is presented. The differential cross-sections are measured in the range of $0.01le xle 0.7$, $0.05le y le 0.95$, $10le E_nu le 200 GeV$ for both anti-neutrino and neutrino beam modes. The anti-neutrino and neutrino--nucleon structure functions Fone, Ftwo and Fthree is extracted by making 2, 3 and 6-parameter fits to the measured differential cross-sections. The comparisons of these results with the earlier experiments, CDHSW and CCFR is given.

Book Neutrino nucleon Scattering

Download or read book Neutrino nucleon Scattering written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the following, the author tries to summarize the current status of neutrino-nucleon scattering as it bears on contemporary issues regarding the spin structure of the nucleon. It is straightforward to express the electroweak current of a hadron in terms of its underlying electroweak partonic currents. The matrix elements of these currents are, of course, presently uncalculable but may be characterized by form factors extracted from experiment. When neutrinos are used as probes, there are several problems associated with carrying out the required cross section measurements. Active neutrino detectors of necessity contain nuclei more complex than hydrogen. These nuclei create additional backgrounds and create complications of interpretation that make these experiments challenging. However, given the continued demonstrated difficulty of measuring and extracting the spin structure functions, it appears that there are no easy measurements to investigate the nucleon spin structure save the earlier experiments that fixed the axial vector form factors of well-known baryon decays (neutron, lambda, etc.). With the emergence of the provocative results from the EMC group on the spin structure function of the proton, there has been renewed interest in the information contained in the cross sections for neutral current neutrino-nucleon scattering. The theoretical background for describing this process has been worked out in detail. It is presented in briefest outline below to define the terms needed to describe experimental results.

Book Determination of the Nucleon Structure Using the Weak Neutral Current

Download or read book Determination of the Nucleon Structure Using the Weak Neutral Current written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental determination of the neutral current structure functions of the nucleon is obtained by measuring the ratio of the neutral current x distribution to the charged current x distribution. The analysis is based on deep inelastic neutrino nucleon scattering data gathered in a massive fine-grained neutrino detector exposed to a narrow band neutrino beam at Fermilab. 12 refs., 2 figs., 2 tabs.

This book was released on 2001-11-15 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scattering of high-energy electrons from nuclear and nucleon targets essentially provides a microscope for examining the structure of these tiny objects. • Author : R. G. Roberts
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 1993-11-26
  • ISBN : 9780521449441
  • Pages : 200 pages

Download or read book The Structure of the Proton written by R. G. Roberts and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1993-11-26 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This graduate/research level book describes our present knowledge of protons and neutrons, the particles which make up the nucleus of the atom. Experiments using high energy electrons, muons and neutrinos reveal the proton as being made up of point-like constituents, quarks. The strong forces which bind the quarks together are described in terms of the modern theory of quantum chromodynamics (QCD), the â€~glue' binding the quarks being mediated by new constituents called gluons. Larger and new particle accelerators probe the interactions between quarks and gluons at shorter distances. The understanding of this detailed substructure and of the fundamental forces responsible is one of the keys to unravelling the physics of the structure of matter. This book will be of interest to all theoretical and experimental particle physicists.

Book The Spin Structure Of The Nucleon

Download or read book The Spin Structure Of The Nucleon written by Bernard Frois and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-02-24 with total page 702 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From its early beginnings at SLAC in the 1970's, the study of nucleon spin structure using polarized lepton beams and polarized nucleon targets has become increasingly important in nuclear and particle physics, with current experiments at several of the world's high energy and nuclear physics laboratories (CERN, DESY, SLAC and Jefferson Lab) and with enormous related theoretical studies. The understanding of the fascinating but complicated problem of nucleon spin structure has progressed substantially, but fundamental questions remain and it can be confidently predicted that future activity will be high. The Erice Course on The Spin Structure of the Nucleon covered both the experimental and theoretical aspects of the subject, and this volume includes the lectures given at the School. In many cases the lecture material has been extended and updated by the authors. In addition, several recent publications on experimental work have been added in an appendix.
