  • Publisher : Elsevier Publishing Company
  • Release : 1992
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 326 pages

Download or read book Rat Histopathology written by P. Greaves and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1992 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardbound. The need to update advances in histopathology that relate to toxicologic pathology has resulted in the stimulus to produce this second edition of Rat Histopathology. Consequently, each chapter has been expanded and updated, with more information on defining common and uncommon lesions, as well as on common strains of rat. This second edition follows the philosophy of the first and reflects the interests of the authors in human pathology, a useful inclusion because of the increasing evidence over recent years that many pathological processes in the rodent are quite similar to those occurring in man. This book will be of great value to toxicologists and pathologists as well as to medical and pharmaceutical libraries.

Book Pathology of the Fischer Rat

Download or read book Pathology of the Fischer Rat written by Gary A. Boorman and published by San Diego : Academic Press. This book was released on 1990 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies in rodents of the toxicity and carcinogenicity of drugs, agricultural agents (e.g., pesticides and herbicides), environmental pollutants, industrial agents (e.g., solvents and intermediates), and other chemicals are the cornerstone of human safety evaluations in the development, use, and/or regulation of these agents. Those who perform the pathological evaluations from these studies need standard diagnostic criteria and pathology terminology. Pathology of the Fischer Rat is a comprehensive pathology reference text on the Fischer 344 rat, the strain widely used for safety evaluations and almost exclusively by the National Toxicology Program.****Every chapter follows the same format of introduction; embryology; normal anatomy, histology, and physiology; and congenital, degenerative, inflammatory and vascular, hyperplastic and neoplastic, miscellaneous, and toxicological lesions. The spectrum of spontaneous and treatment-related, neoplastic and nonneoplastic lesions found in each tissue is described and photographed.****The text is useful not only to pathologists but also to investigators from a variety of disciplines who use the rat as an animal model. It will also prove valuable to toxicologists, biologists, and other scientists engaged in regulatory toxicology who must make the transition from pathology results to promulgation of meaningful regulations.

Download or read book Cystogenesis written by Jong Hoon Park and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-12 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) is a highly prevalent hereditary renal disorder in which fluid-filled cysts are appeared in both kidneys. Main causative genes of ADPKD are PKD1 and PKD2, encoding for polycystin-1 (PC1) and polycystin-2 (PC2) respectively. Those proteins are localized on primary cilia and function as mechanosensor in response to the fluid flow, translating mechanistic stimuli into calcium signaling. With mutations either of PKD1 or PKD2, hyper-activated renal tubular epithelial cell proliferation is observed, followed by disrupted calcium homeostasis and aberrant intracellular cyclic AMP (cAMP) accumulation. Increased cell proliferation with fluid secretion leads to the development of thousands of epithelial-lined, fluid-filled cysts in kidneys. It is also accompanied by interstitial inflammation, fibrosis, and finally reaching end-stage renal disease (ESRD). In human ADPKD, the age at which renal failure typically occurs is later in life, however no specific targeted medications are available to cure ADPKD. Recently, potential therapeutic targets or surrogate diagnostic biomarkers for ADPKD are proposed with the advances in the understanding of ADPKD pathogenesis, and some of them were attempted for clinical trials. Herein, we will summarize genetic and epi-genetic molecular mechanisms in ADPKD progression, and overview the currently available biomarkers or potential therapeutic reagents suggested.
