Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The major cause of death in the Western world is some form of vascular disease; and principal among these forms is atherosclerotic heart disease (ASHD). Although much is known about the etiology and treatment of ASHD, there is, as yet, no specific means of prognosis of an impending coronary episode. There are, however, several indications of susceptibility to coronary disease, generally known as risk factors, the foremost of which is hyperlipidemia. Hyperlipidemia is more commonly designated as hypercholesteremia or triglyceridemia, depending upon which moiety is elevated, but since lipids are transported in the blood as members of a lipoprotein complex, the most descriptive general term would be hyperlipoproteinemia. This volume represents an effort to elucidate the origins and metabolic behavior of lipoproteins and their components, to describe aspects of the morphology, biochemistry and experimental induction of ASHD, and to describe modalities of treatment. The contributions to this book include descriptions of cholesterol synthesis and metabolism, as well as the metabolism of bile acids, the principal products of cholesterol metabolism. There are also chapters on the mechanisms of hyperlipidemia and on lipoprotein metabolism. The induction of experimental atherosclerosis and the aortic structural changes caused by this disease are discussed.

Book Applied Theatre Aesthetics

Download or read book Applied Theatre Aesthetics written by Gareth White and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-02-26 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Theatre: Aesthetics re-examines how the idea of 'the aesthetic' is relevant to performance in social settings. The disinterestedness that traditional aesthetics claims as a key characteristic of art makes little sense when making performances with ordinary people, rooted in their lives and communities, and with personal and social change as its aim. Yet practitioners of applied arts know that their work is not reducible to social work, therapy or education. Reconciling the simultaneous autonomy and heteronomy of art is the problem of aesthetics in applied arts. Gareth White's introductory essay reviews the field, and proposes an interdisciplinary approach that builds on new developments in evolutionary, cognitive and neuro-aesthetics alongside the politics of art. It addresses the complexities of art and the aesthetic as everyday behaviours and responses. The second part of the book is made up of essays from leading experts and new voices in the practice and theory of applied performance, reflecting on the key problematics of applying performance with non-performers. New and innovative practice is described and interrogated, and fresh thinking is introduced in response to perennial problems.

Book Management of Libraries and Information Centers

Download or read book Management of Libraries and Information Centers written by P. Balasubramanian and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-31 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Library' imposes upon itself a lot of definitions, meanings, connotations made by professionals, experts in library science, organizations and so on. There is a good scope of misinterpretation in determining the definition of a library, this is due to establishment of many so-called public libraries in India and abroad by voluntary organizations, philanthropists etc. during the eighteenth and nineteenth century which were open to public irrespective of class, creed, sex, educational attainment etc.Hence, for a library system, the elements are libraries at different levels with their branches and service units. These should be interlinked so as to form an integrated system or network of services. "Such a library system can be compared with a large irrigation system. It needs a hand-work with a costly dam and a large number of distributaries through which water can reach every bit of land."Now-a-days, the informational role of the library is being highlighted. In fact, in broad sense, it may be said that, the role of library is informational. But it is of two-fold: One is, to provide information, expressed or unexpressed to a person and another is to provide him with the informati
