Sakalosky, Ph.D. Here is a new and unique idea that describes both the driving force behind cancer and its potential cure. In this book, quantum concept and model developed by the author will take you into a territory completely off the commonly accepted research track for understanding carcinogenesis. Notio Nova rejects the common view that mutations in DNA produce both a cancer genome and a potential cure; instead, it suggests that the development of the cancer genome begins in DNA with the production of a chemical bond lesion-an ozonide-located inside a promoter TATA box in the Replication Origin of the Genome. The lesion locks the TATA box switch ON and causes the well known unregulated replication of the cancer genome that sustains itself via various mutations. This is the conclusion of a fifty-two year study using a new technique in molecular modeling which brought forth the design, synthesis, and successful testing of three lesion-destroying, anticancer analogue compounds. The conclusion of this new, unique research suggests that the old idea of mutation has failed to produce a cure, so a new idea must come forth and is here presented. About the Author Dr. Sakalosky began molecular modeling in 1957 to devise a means for identifying critical energy absorption sites in macromolecular systems. He was awarded a doctoral degree at Boston College in 1975 following the completion of interdisciplinary, intercollegiate, doctoral courses in biochemistry, biophysics, learning theory, and neurochemistry at MIT (was accepted as a student member of the MIT Neuroscience Department); Tufts University School of Medicine; Boston University; and Boston College. These studies concluded with a doctoral thesis, Proton Symmetry: Its Implications for learning Theory-A Biophysics Concept. Dr. Sakalosky joined the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (USAEC) in 1963 as a member of the Division of Reactor Development and later served as a member of the office of the Chairman of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. The chemical structures in the text are illustrated by Valerie L. Pense and Simeon C. Daugherty.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Speech Situation is a term worn with age in the teaching of public speaking in America. That it is comprised of occasion, speaker, and topic is a gross oversimplification. It also includes challenge, anxiety, emotion, fear, responsibility, faults of memory, and instants of pride. Out of the circumstances arise an increase in heart rate, a change in blood pressure, an abnormal pattern of breathing, a noticeable build up in perspiration, and an ongoing evaluation. For students this may be merely a grade or perhaps a series of evaluative remarks, possibly addressed both to the speaker and the other participants, the audience. It may entail a replaying of a record of the speech, indeed a videotape. Most important is the lasting impression that remains with all of the participants. What of the vocabulary of the speaker under the circumstances of the speech situation? This speaker - in the major portions of this work we may say, "this young man" - has spent time seeking an appropriate topic. He has outlined a composition around a central idea or thesis. He has marshaled evidence, details. He has framed an opening paragraph. He has been admonished not to give an essay, but to strive for audience contact, interpersonal communication. He makes his audible approach through his vocabulary and accompanying phonology. Under the tension, the speaker repeats; he adds meaningless vocalizations in periods that might logically be pauses. There are slips of the tongue. At worst, failing, he withdraws to await another day.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In marked contrast to the United States, with its territorial stability, some countries, such as Bulgaria and Ethiopia, reorganize their regional subdivisions frequently. This large-format reference work simplifies the comparison of decades' worth of data from such countries: "With this book in hand, one can answer any administrative subdivision question about any state or province in the world from 1900 through 1998"--Abstracts of Public Administration, Development and Environment. For each country there is at least one table, and usually several. Histories of subdivision changes and lists of alternate names for subdivisions in each country add to the work's research value. All relevant national and international standards such as ISO and FIPS codes are listed, as well as time zones, populations, areas and capitals for each subdivision. There is a comprehensive index of names.

Download or read book Leibniz General Inquiries on the Analysis of Notions and Truths written by Massimo Mugnai and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-06-08 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Texts in the History of Philosophy Published in association with the British Society for the History of Philosophy The aim of this series is to encourage and facilitate the study of all aspects of the history of philosophy, including the rediscovery of neglected elements and the exploration of new approaches to the subject. Texts are selected on the basis of their philosophical and historical significance and with a view to promoting the understanding of currently under-represented authors, philosophical traditions, and historical periods. They include new editions and translations of important yet less well-known works which are not widely available to an Anglophone readership. The series is sponsored by the British Society for the History of Philosophy (BSHP) and is managed by an editorial team elected by the Society. It reflects the Society's main mission and its strong commitment to broadening the canon. In General Inquiries on the Analysis of Notions and Truths, Leibniz articulates for the first time his favourite solution to the problem of contingency and displays the main features of his logical calculus. Leibniz composed the work in 1686, the same year in which he began to correspond with Arnauld and wrote the Discourse on Metaphysics. General Inquiries supplements these contemporary entries in Leibniz's philosophical oeuvre and demonstrates the intimate connection that links Leibniz's philosophy with the attempt to create a new kind of logic. This edition presents the text and translation of the General Inquiries along with an introduction and commentary. Given the composite structure of the text, where logic and metaphysics strongly intertwine, Mugnai's introduction falls into two sections, respectively dedicated to logic and metaphysics. The first section ('Logic') begins with a preliminary account of Leibniz's project for a universal characteristic and focuses on the relationships between rational grammar and logic, and discusses the general structure and the main ingredients of Leibniz's logical calculus. The second section ('Metaphysics') is centred on the problem of contingency, which occupied Leibniz until the end of his life. Mugnai provides an account of the problem, and details Leibniz's proposed solution, based on the concept of infinite analysis.
