Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Book of Genesis: A Complete Analysis of Genesis With Annotations The first Book of the Bible is called in the Septuagint (the Greek translation of the Old Testament) Gene sis. Genesis means Origin. The Hebrews call it by the first Hebrew word Bereshith. - In the Begin ning. It is the Book of all beginnings. We can trace here the beginnings of creation and everything else, except God, who has no beginning. The Book of Gene sis is the great foundation upon which the entire: revelation of God rests. The marvellous structure of the Bible, composed of the different books, written by different instruments of the Spirit of God at different times, is built upon this great, majestic Book. It is the root out of which the tree of God's revelation has grown. Internal evidences prove the most complete unity, that it is the work of one chosen instrument, Moses, and that it is not of a composite authorship. But more than that, the Book of Genesis establishes the Divine Unity of the Bible. The last Book of the Bible, the Revelation, confirms this. Genesis tells of the origin of all things; Revelation reveals the destiny of all things. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considered a classic in Christian apologetics, this scholarly analysis of the Biblical phrase "without form and void," from the opening chapter of Genesis, observes the rules of linguistics, of grammar and syntax, and also examines how words are used in the rest of Scripture. This book has been described as the best argument that has ever been written for the Gap Theory. A well respected Canadian scientist himself, and listed in the 1971 American Men in Science, Dr. Custance contends that we should not allow science to determine what Scripture says. Neither should we allow Scripture to determine what the scientist observes in the laboratory. Yet observed fact in the one cannot, ultimately, conflict with revealed fact in the other. Any conflict, then, is in the interpretation of the facts - not in the facts themselves.

Download or read book The Book of Genesis written by S. R. Driver and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-24 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Book of Genesis: With Introduction and Notes The unexpected death of Dr Driver in 1914 has prevented any further revision of this Commentary, as he has left no materials available for the purpose. It is however worth mentioning that since the ninth edition appeared Dr Driver published a revised edition of his Introduction to the Lite rature of the Old Testament (9th Ed. 1913) and in the Addenda to that volume (pp. Xxvi - xxxiii) will be found a few notes bearing on Genesis, and particularly his last and fullest discussion of the controversy about the value of the Names of' God as a clue to the sources of the Pentateuch. He there refers with approval to articles in the Expositor by Dr Skinner, since republished in book form ('the Divine Names' in Genesis, Hodder and Stoughton and also to the Appendix in the Rev. D. C. Simpson s Pentateuchal Criticism (hodder and Stoughton, which was written at Dr Driver's suggestion and had the benefit of his revision. The ninth edition, of which this is a reprint, consequently represents the final form of this Commentary. The progress of Old Testament Criticism and of Oriental archaeological studies will doubtless modify particular statements in it, but the wide range of Dr Driver's knowledge, the accuracy of his scholarship and the sanity of his judgment cannot fail to secure a permanent value for all his work. To speak, stumbled into the Divine Presence, when their only thought Was of headlong flight from the consequences Of weakness, folly, and sin; many Josephs, too, who have found in humiliating ruih the appointed pathway to honourable 'service. Such vicissitudes Of fortune or of conduct are not far from any of us, and we are all encouraged by the'possibilities of grace suggested by these ancient stories. A mediaeval Rabbi has well said that the faults and failures Of prophets, patriarchs, and saints are recorded for our encouragement, we see that the heroes Of the inspired narrative are human, and that what is told of them is a story of Divine enabling which may be read as a promise to our feeble and erring selves. It is the human, the representative character of these narratives which has preserved them, and procured for them a place In Scripture. Many generations felt that they expressed real experiences, and therefore handed them on as their own testimony also to the righteousness and love Of God.
