Book Harnessing Renewable Energy in Electric Power Systems

Download or read book Harnessing Renewable Energy in Electric Power Systems written by Boaz Moselle and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2010-09-23 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reflecting its reliance on fossil fuels, the electric power industry produces the majority of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. The need for a revolution in the industry becomes further apparent given that 'decarbonization' means an increasing electrification of other sectors of the economy in particular, through a switch from gasoline to electric vehicles. Of the options for producing electric power without significant greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy is most attractive to policymakers, as it promises increased national self-reliance on energy supplies and the creation of new industries and jobs, without the safety and political concerns of nuclear power or the unproven technology of carbon capture and storage. Drawing on both economic theory and the experiences of the United States and EU member states, Harnessing Renewable Energy addresses the key questions surrounding renewable energy policies. How appropriate is the focus on renewable power as a primary tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions? If renewable energy is given specific support, what form should that support take? What are the implications for power markets if renewable generation is widely adopted? Thorough and well-evidenced, this book will be of interest to a broad range of policymakers, the electric power industry, and economists who study energy and environmental issues.

Book Power System Analysis

Download or read book Power System Analysis written by J.C. Das and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 1528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamental to the planning, design, and operating stages of any electrical engineering endeavor, power system analysis continues to be shaped by dramatic advances and improvements that reflect today’s changing energy needs. Highlighting the latest directions in the field, Power System Analysis: Short-Circuit Load Flow and Harmonics, Second Edition includes investigations into arc flash hazard analysis and its migration in electrical systems, as well as wind power generation and its integration into utility systems. Designed to illustrate the practical application of power system analysis to real-world problems, this book provides detailed descriptions and models of major electrical equipment, such as transformers, generators, motors, transmission lines, and power cables. With 22 chapters and 7 appendices that feature new figures and mathematical equations, coverage includes: Short-circuit analyses, symmetrical components, unsymmetrical faults, and matrix methods Rating structures of breakers Current interruption in AC circuits, and short-circuiting of rotating machines Calculations according to the new IEC and ANSI/IEEE standards and methodologies Load flow, transmission lines and cables, and reactive power flow and control Techniques of optimization, FACT controllers, three-phase load flow, and optimal power flow A step-by-step guide to harmonic generation and related analyses, effects, limits, and mitigation, as well as new converter topologies and practical harmonic passive filter designs—with examples More than 2000 equations and figures, as well as solved examples, cases studies, problems, and references Maintaining the structure, organization, and simplified language of the first edition, longtime power system engineer J.C. Das seamlessly melds coverage of theory and practical applications to explore the most commonly required short-circuit, load-flow, and harmonic analyses. This book requires only a beginning knowledge of the per-unit system, electrical circuits and machinery, and matrices, and it offers significant updates and additional information, enhancing technical content and presentation of subject matter. As an instructional tool for computer simulation, it uses numerous examples and problems to present new insights while making readers comfortable with procedure and methodology.

Book Multi dimensional Risk and Investment Return in the Energy Sector

Download or read book Multi dimensional Risk and Investment Return in the Energy Sector written by Peter Rabensteiner and published by Haupt Verlag AG. This book was released on 2013 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Transmission Distribution and Renewable Energy Generation Power Equipment

Download or read book Transmission Distribution and Renewable Energy Generation Power Equipment written by Bella H. Chudnovsky and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-03-07 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The revised edition presents, extends, and updates a thorough analysis of the factors that cause and accelerate the aging of conductive and insulating materials of which transmission and distribution electrical apparatus is made. New sections in the second edition summarize the issues of the aging, reliability, and safety of electrical apparatus, as well as supporting equipment in the field of generating renewable energy (solar, wind, tide, and wave power). When exposed to atmospheric corrosive gases and fluids, contaminants, high and low temperatures, vibrations, and other internal and external impacts, these systems deteriorate; eventually the ability of the apparatus to function properly is destroyed. In the modern world of "green energy", the equipment providing clean, electrical energy needs to be properly maintained in order to prevent premature failure. The book’s purpose is to help find the proper ways to slow down the aging of electrical apparatus, improve its performance, and extend the life of power generation, transmission, and distribution equipment.
