This book republishes the numerous printings of the Boston Musical Gazette in a multi-volume set for readers to enjoy and preserve. An excellent resource for musicians, historians, singer/songwriters, or those with any interest in music and the music industry, the articles and essays presented in this volume do their best to cover a wide range of information which is easily approachable to readers of any level of interest in the topic of music. The book explores a great range of topics including articles on musicians, composers, choir music, and music festivals, containing a year's worth of musical information in the Boston area. In addition, the gazette does its best to explore music by specific locations such as "The Music Scene in New York" or "The Romantic Sounds of Paris" as well as detailing specific forms of music from all over the world, like the music of Germany, Scotland, and China. Of course, music isn't just about performances, it's also about learning how to play, and the book includes several articles on music instruction, organ music, and piano music. Finally, the publication covers a wealth of modern genres such as church music and popular music, and a litany of articles on famous composer J. S. Bach, with unique comparisons and criticisms aimed at both educating the reader and imbibing them with a sense of passion. Whether used as a source of reference or entertainment, The Boston Musical Gazette serves as an excellent starting point for those interested in music. Download or read book Catalogue of the Allen A Brown Collection of Music Vol 1 written by and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-28 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Catalogue of the Allen A. Brown Collection of Music, Vol. 1: In the Public Library of the City of Boston Many of the volumes, which are attractively and harmoniously bound, contain insertions that greatly enhance their value. These insertions sometimes contain accounts of the composer whose work appears in the volume; sometimes they are devoted to criticisms of the work and of its rendering as viewed by different critics at different times, or even at the same performance: thus furnishing impor tant side-lights on many a musical career, as well as on the art itself. There are, too, many bound volumes of programmes which represent performances in different parts of the world - memoranda that might seem of the slightest and briefest significance. Yet once preserved, they are not negligible as records of when and how certain musical works were produced; they form a real part of the material from which history is written. Book The Belle Skinner Collection of Old Musical Instruments Holyoke Massachusetts

Download or read book The Belle Skinner Collection of Old Musical Instruments Holyoke Massachusetts written by William Skinner and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Belle Skinner Collection of Old Musical Instruments, Holyoke, Massachusetts: A Descriptive Catalogue The old musical instruments described in the pages of this book were gathered together by my sister to satisfy her love of music and of art, for she delighted to have beautiful things near her. During her youth she studied the violin and piano and all her life she maintained her great interest in music and in everything related to it. In her early travels she came across the Ruckers two-manual harpsichord described here, and having acquired this, the first of her collection, her desire for more treasures naturally developed. Throughout the rest of her life she became an eager collector of rare instruments. Never did she intend to form a museum, but she was happy in the thought of bringing to her home treasures which she could share with her family and her friends and which she could leave to posterity. She had desired to publish a catalogue and the photographs reproduced in these pages were taken under her personal direction. These notes have been compiled by Fanny Reed Hammond and by the curator, Nils I. Ericsson, an expert maker of violins, at one time associated with Arnold Dolmetsch of England in the restoring of old musical instruments, and with Etienne Caveau, in Paris, and Chickering and Sons, in Boston, in the making of clavichords and harpsichords.
