Book Teaching as an Act of Love

Download or read book Teaching as an Act of Love written by Richard Lakin and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-11 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Richard Lakin's collection is geared to teachers, principals, parents, and all those concerned with making schools more loving and effective for each child. He presents a close look at his school staff working together to create both a caring, challenging learning environment and a real partnership between school and home. In today's high stakes and test obsessed world, Teaching as an Act of Love encourages teachers as they remember why they entered teaching in the first place-to zero in on the individual child, "the whole child" and encourage the love of learning. In the 55 informative and optimistic pieces in the book, Richard proposes more personalized "smaller caring schools of choice," where the child comes first, where bureaucracy, testing and NCLB are minimized and where a loving school climate and kindness prevail

Book The Golden Present

Download or read book The Golden Present written by Swami Satchidananda and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These daily inspirational readings contain Swami Satchidananda's teachings on the spiritual life"how to serve others and realize peace, truth, and union with the divine. Culled from twenty-five years of lectures to spiritual seekers in the West and the East, these readings are expressed with the simplicity and authority of one who speaks from his own experience. What is purity of heart? It's a heart full of tranquility and peace. Having a steady mind, a balanced mind, is what you call purity of heart. You must be well balanced between the dualities: the ups and downs, the pleasure and pain, the profit and loss. If the mind is free from turbulence, then the seer can see its own nature. If your heart is pure and steady, you can see God reflected in that steady heart.

Book What No One Ever Tells You

Download or read book What No One Ever Tells You written by Matt Malyon and published by Village Books. This book was released on 2018-12-12 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What would you do if you were speaking and no one was listening? Writing and no one was reading? Existing without any feedback? For many of the authors and poets in What No One Ever Tells You, this question isn't a matter of theory. And the answer, for many, has been the sublimation of truth, emotions, and the creative impulse--voices relegated to the underground. Published in December 2018, What No One Ever Tells You is an amplifying collection of voices that continue to speak. It is the first anthology of student work from Underground Writing, a literature-based creative writing program serving migrant, incarcerated, recovery, and other at-risk communities in Northern Washington through literary engagement and personal restoration. Made possible, in part, by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission, the book includes nearly 100 pages of student writing, micro essays by Underground Writing's Teaching Writers, a list of resources, site profiles, and a Foreword by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, Quiara Alegría Hudes. As Hudes says in her Foreword: "These authors may be far from the levers of change, but they have decided to write their truth, and in doing so, they have certainly changed me."

Book Advances in Clinical Child Psychology

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is with both pride and sadness that we publish the twentieth and last volume of Advances in Clinical Child Psychology. This series has seen a long and successful run starting under the editorship of Ben Lahey and Alan Kazdin, who passed the baton to us at Volume 14. We are grateful to the many contributors over the years and to the Plenum staff for producing a quality product in a timely manner. This volume covers a diverse array of significant topics. In the open ing chapter, Maughan and Rutter explore the research literatures related to continuity and discontinuity of antisocial behavior from childhood to adulthood. Their review and conceptualization emphasize the significance of hyperactivity and inattention, early-onset conduct problems, low reac tivity to stress, and poor peer relations as potentially influential variables in the persistence of antisocial behavior. Social cognitions, environmental continuities, substance abuse, cumulative chains of life events, and protec tive processes are considered as well.

Book excerpt: For the fiftieth anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, an anthology chronicling the tumultuous fight for LGBTQ rights in the 1960s and the activists who spearheaded it, with a foreword by Edmund White. Drawing from the New York Public Library's archives, The Stonewall Reader is a collection of first accounts, diaries, periodic literature, and articles from LGBTQ magazines and newspapers that documented both the years leading up to and the years following the riots. Most importantly the anthology spotlights both iconic activists who were pivotal in the movement, such as Sylvia Rivera, co-founder of Street Transvestites Action Revolutionaries (STAR), as well as forgotten figures like Ernestine Eckstein, one of the few out, African American, lesbian activists in the 1960s. The anthology focuses on the events of 1969, the five years before, and the five years after. Jason Baumann, the NYPL coordinator of humanities and LGBTQ collections, has edited and introduced the volume to coincide with the NYPL exhibition he has curated on the Stonewall uprising and gay liberation movement of 1969.
