Ages ago in Persia the ladies worked on fine and rare materials, with silk, these beautiful embroideries. To our grandmothers, also, this was not a new work, but it did not have the pronounced character of today, and in connection with other drawn work it was varied with curved damask-like stitches, and was known in Italy as Punto-Tagliato and Punto-Rialto. The present work was first executed in Norway, a county on the southeast coast, hence the name.
