Book North Coastal Area Investigation

Download or read book North Coastal Area Investigation written by Hugo Fisher and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-14 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from North Coastal Area Investigation: A Summary of the Public Hearing Comments and Changes to the Preliminary Edition; Dated September 1964, Final Supplement This supplement serves as the final edition of Bulletin No. 136, "North Coastal Area Investigation." It presents (1) a summary of the public hearing comments received on both Bulletin No. 136 and Appendix A, "Watershed Management in the Eel River Basin"; (2) statements on the action taken by the preliminary edition of Bulletin No. 136. The final edition of Appendix A was published in September 1966. Public hearing comments on the bulletins were primarily concerned with the need for flood control and project timing and did not significantly challenge the North Coastal water resources planning framework presented in Bulletin No. 136. Changes to the bulletin itself were therefore minor and are most effectively presented in a supplement such as this. Bulletin No. 136 provides a general description and summary of a seven-year reconnaissance investigation of the North Coast's water resources. It outlines the objectives, activities, and conclusions of the investigation and describes the plans which have been formulated. Appendix A is the report of a special study undertaken in response to Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 47 of the 1961 State Legislature. The report summarizes all aspects of watershed management in the Eel River Basin. Public hearings were held throughout the North Coastal area on these bulletins during February and March 1965. Transcripts of these hearings are on file with the California Water Commission in Sacramento and the Northern District of the Department of Water Resources in Red Bluff and are available for review by the public. Book excerpt: Excerpt from North Coastal Area Investigation: Alternative Plans for Development This report was prepared as a supporting technical document for Bulletin No. 136, "North Coastal Area Investigation." Two other office reports which are associated with Bulletin No. 136 are entitled, "Project Hydrology" and "Designs and Cost Estimates." The separately bound appendixes to the main bulletin are: Appendix A - Watershed Management in the Eel River Basin Appendix B - Recreation Appendix C - Fish and Wildlife Appendix D - Related Reports (included in the main bulletin) Appendix E - Engineering Geology In the main bulletin the emphasis is on concepts, conclusions and recommendations rather than on reporting of data. Many alternative plans of development were analyzed during the investigation. The plans presented in Bulletin No. 136 were selected as the more favorable of the alternatives. This office report was prepared in the interest of preserving basic information and the analyses pertaining to various North Coastal area developments. Part I of this report presents discussions, diagrams, maps and tables relating to the various plans for the North Coastal streams. Part II presents further information on the alternative projects by means of graphical illustrations and detailed explanations. Book North Coastal Area Action Program

Book excerpt: Excerpt from North Coastal Area Action Program: A Study of the McKinleyville-Trinidad Area In 1966 the California Legislature requested the Department of Water Resources to initiate an action program of investigation on the Smith, Mad, Van Duzen, and South Fork Eel Rivers. The first phase of this action program, reported on in Bulletin No. 105-1 in December 1966, selected the coastal strip from Humboldt Bay to Trinidad as having the most pressing need for new water supplies. As a result, the Department focused the action program on this coastal strip and carried out a 1-1/2 year reconnaissance investigation, of the McKinleyville-Trinidad area. This bulletin reports on that investigation. The objective of the study was to formulate plans for the development of water supplies within the McKinleyville-Trinidad area. It was concluded that the best way to provide additional water supplies to the study area would be through annexation to the Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District and construction of a pipeline from the District's system into the McKinleyville-Trinidad area. This study was coordinated with the local agencies involved in water development in the area. The Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District, in addition to working closely with the Department, also conducted a complementary study of potential projects on Little River. Book An Inventory of Archaic and Classical Poleis

Download or read book An Inventory of Archaic and Classical Poleis written by Mogens Herman Hansen and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2004-11-11 with total page 1416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first ever documented study of the 1,035 identifiable Greek city states (poleis) of the Archaic and Classical periods (c.650-325 BC). Previous studies of the Greek polis have focused on Athens and Sparta, and the result has been a view of Greek society dominated by Sophokles', Plato's, and Demosthenes' view of what the polis was. This study includes descriptions of Athens and Sparta, but its main purpose is to explore the history and organization of the thousand other city states. The main part of the book is a regionally organized inventory of all identifiable poleis covering the Greek world from Spain to the Caucasus and from the Crimea to Libya. This inventory is the work of 47 specialists, and is divided into 46 chapters, each covering a region. Each chapter contains an account of the region, a list of second-order settlements, and an alphabetically ordered description of the poleis. This description covers such topics as polis status, territory, settlement pattern, urban centre, city walls and monumental architecture, population, military strength, constitution, alliance membership, colonization, coinage, and Panhellenic victors. The first part of the book is a description of the method and principles applied in the construction of the inventory and an analysis of some of the results to be obtained by a comparative study of the 1,035 poleis included in it. The ancient Greek concept of polis is distinguished from the modern term `city state', which historians use to cover many other historic civilizations, from ancient Sumeria to the West African cultures absorbed by the nineteenth-century colonializing powers. The focus of this project is what the Greeks themselves considered a polis to be.
