Book excerpt: Excerpt from North Atlantic Ocean Station Charlie, Vol. 6 of 8: April, 1967 April, 1968 Oceanographic data from ten cruises on Ocean Station charlie 35°30'w) during the period April 1967 to April 1968 are presented. These data consist of observed and interpolated temperature and salinity data from 187 shallow meters) and 7 deep (>15oo meters) casts. Tem perature-depth and salinity-depth distribution plots show that the tempera ture distribution follows a seasonal trend, but the salinity distribution is more diverse. Temperature-salinity plots for the deep casts indicate the presence of Labrador Sea Water and Northeast Atlantic Deep Water. The thermo haline characteristics of the -20 salinity anomaly (bubnov, 1967) indicate water of Subarctic Intermediate Water characteristics at Ocean Station charlie. Examination of the sea surface temperature and salinity shows that Subarctic Intermediate Water was formed in the area of Ocean Station charlie from January to April 1968 but not from June to November 1967.
