Now she returns with the story of two strangers thrown together in the face of danger, fighting to uncover the truth about the people they love. . . Don't Say A Word Newly divorced schoolteacher Mia Anderson is looking forward to exploring her identity without her ex-husband's criticism. But a frantic call from her much wilder twin Margot suddenly plunges Mia into her sister's life, which Margot has fled--leaving a dead man in her wake. Before Mia can unravel Margot's disappearance, she's faced with Matthew Gray, the dead man's distraught brother. Asking him for help is a long shot--but it's the only way to carry out a dangerous charade. . . Don't Look Back Deceit is the last thing Matthew wants in his life--it ruined his parents' marriage, and it killed his cheating brother, who was seen flirting with Margot the night he was murdered. But Mia is sure that her sister is only a pawn in this deadly game, and he can't let her investigate on her own--not when she's determined to put her own life on the line. And as they sift through clues, talking long into each night to unravel the mystery, he begins to realize that what matters most is making sure Mia isn't the next victim. . .

David Malik is as careful as any man to avoid contact with the virus. But when his sister tests positive as an asymptomatic carrier, she must relocate to Fornax Island to join the isolated population of contagious-untreatables. Fortunately, the British prime minister’s latest manifesto includes reintegrating the islanders with the nation. Yet, he does not survive a visit to Fornax Island to unveil his new policies. The military suspects one of its junior officers is responsible for his death. Malik seizes his chance to represent the possible assassin, allowing him to protect his sister. Yet within days of taking on the case, he finds himself accused of masterminding the assassination. When Malik discovers that a foreign corporation is manipulating events on Fornax Island, it forces him to choose between self-preservation, his sister’s welfare, and the future of seven hundred thousand residents.

Book Oxford Movement

    Book Details:

  • Publisher : Penn State Press
  • Release : 2010-11-01
  • ISBN : 9780271045955
  • Pages : 204 pages

Download or read book Oxford Movement written by C. Brad Faught and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2010-11-01 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Well over a century and a half after its high point, the Oxford Movement continues to stand out as a powerful example of religion in action. Led by four young Oxford dons--John Henry Newman, John Keble, Richard Hurrell Froude, and Edward Pusey--this renewal movement within the Church of England was a central event in the political, religious, and social life of the early Victorian era. This book offers an up-to-date and highly accessible overview of the Oxford Movement. Beginning formally in 1833 with John Keble's famous "National Apostasy" sermon and lasting until 1845, when Newman made his celebrated conversion to Roman Catholicism, the Oxford Movement posed deep and far-reaching questions about the relationship between Church and State, the Catholic heritage of the Church of England, and the Church's social responsibility, especially in the new industrial society. The four scholar-priests, who came to be known as the Tractarians (in reference to their publication of Tracts for the Times), courted controversy as they attacked the State for its insidious incursions onto sacred Church ground and summoned the clergy to be a thorn in the side of the government. C. Brad Faught approaches the movement thematically, highlighting five key areas in which the movement affected English society more broadly--politics, religion and theology, friendship, society, and missions. The advantage of this thematic approach is that it illuminates the frequently overlooked wider political, social, and cultural impact of the movement. The questions raised by the Tractarians remain as relevant today as they were then. Their most fundamental question--"What is the place of the Church in the modern world?"--still remains unanswered.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive Introduction to the world of brain and behavior computational models This book provides a broad collection of articles covering different aspects of computational modeling efforts in psychology and neuroscience. Specifically, it discusses models that span different brain regions (hippocampus, amygdala, basal ganglia, visual cortex), different species (humans, rats, fruit flies), and different modeling methods (neural network, Bayesian, reinforcement learning, data fitting, and Hodgkin-Huxley models, among others). Computational Models of Brain and Behavior is divided into four sections: (a) Models of brain disorders; (b) Neural models of behavioral processes; (c) Models of neural processes, brain regions and neurotransmitters, and (d) Neural modeling approaches. It provides in-depth coverage of models of psychiatric disorders, including depression, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia, and dyslexia; models of neurological disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and epilepsy; early sensory and perceptual processes; models of olfaction; higher/systems level models and low-level models; Pavlovian and instrumental conditioning; linking information theory to neurobiology; and more. Covers computational approximations to intellectual disability in down syndrome Discusses computational models of pharmacological and immunological treatment in Alzheimer's disease Examines neural circuit models of serotonergic system (from microcircuits to cognition) Educates on information theory, memory, prediction, and timing in associative learning Computational Models of Brain and Behavior is written for advanced undergraduate, Master's and PhD-level students—as well as researchers involved in computational neuroscience modeling research.

Book Successful Remembering and Successful Forgetting

Download or read book Successful Remembering and Successful Forgetting written by Aaron S. Benjamin and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2011-01-07 with total page 619 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chapters in this volume are testament to the many ways in which Robert Bjork’s ideas have shaped the course of research on human memory over four decades. It showcases the theoretical advances and recent findings by researchers whose work and careers have been influenced by Bjork. The first group of chapters explore the idea that forgetting is an adaptive response to the demands of a retrieval system fraught with competition - an idea that has helped recalibrate conceptualizations of memory away from one in which in which the computer is the dominant metaphor. Several chapters then review the application of research on learning and memory to enhancing human performance, reflecting Bjork’s staunch commitment to translating his findings and theories to real-world settings. Later chapters address topics that are relevant to the translation of cognitive psychology to human performance, and in particular recognize the critical role of metacognition in such problems. The final chapters cover a variety of issues related to how remembering can be enhanced, and how research on remembering can be profitably guided by the use of mathematical modeling. This volume will appeal to researchers and graduate students of human learning, memory, and forgetting, and will also benefit an audience working in applied domains, such as training and education.

Book Urban Planning for Climate Change

Download or read book Urban Planning for Climate Change written by Barbara Norman and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-10-19 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Urban Planning for Climate Change focusses on how urban planning is fundamental to action on climate change. In doing so it particularly looks at current practice and opportunities for innovation and capacity building in the future - carbon neutral development, building back better and creating more resilient urban settlements around the world. The complex challenge of possible urban resettlement from the impact of climate change is covered as a special issue bringing a focus on adaptation, working with nature and delivering real action on climate change with local communities. Norman recommends ten essential actions for urban planning for climate change along with some suggestions to inspire the next generations to embrace these opportunities with creativity and innovation. Featuring key messages and implications for practice in each chapter, this book will be of great interest to students, scholars, practitioners and communities involved in planning more climate resilient urban and regional futures.
