Book Norm Ideals of Completely Continuous Operators

Download or read book Norm Ideals of Completely Continuous Operators written by Robert Schatten and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Completely continuous operators on a Hilbert space or even on a Banach space have received considerable attention in the last fifty years. Their study was usually confined to special completely continuous operators or to the discovery of properties common to all of them (for instance, that every such operator admits a proper invariant subspace). On the other hand, interest in spaces of completely continuous operators is comparatively new. Some results of this type may be found implicit in the early work of E. SCHMIDT. Other results are "generally known" and cannot be found explicitly in print. One of the interesting and relatively new results states that modulo the language of BANACH (that is, up to equivalence) the space of all operators on a Hilbert space f> is the second conjugate of the space of all completely continuous operators on f>. The study of spaces of completely continuous operators on a perfectly general Banach space involves many difficulties. Some stem, for instance, from the unsolved problem whether a completely continuous operator on a perfectly general Banach space is always approximable in bound by operators of finite rank. The answer is affirmative in all the special Banach spaces considered. An affirmative answer to the above problem is the ultimate desideratum - it ~ould simplify the theory considerably. A negative answer, however, would be equally interesting (although for us not so useful), since it would settle negatively the open "basis problem".

Book Analysis and Operator Theory

Download or read book Analysis and Operator Theory written by Themistocles M. Rassias and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-05-31 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dedicated to Tosio Kato’s 100th birthday, this book contains research and survey papers on a broad spectrum of methods, theories, and problems in mathematics and mathematical physics. Survey papers and in-depth technical papers emphasize linear and nonlinear analysis, operator theory, partial differential equations, and functional analysis including nonlinear evolution equations, the Korteweg–de Vries equation, the Navier–Stokes equation, and perturbation theory of linear operators. The Kato inequality, the Kato type matrix limit theorem, the Howland–Kato commutator problem, the Kato-class of potentials, and the Trotter–Kato product formulae are discussed and analyzed. Graduate students, research mathematicians, and applied scientists will find that this book provides comprehensive insight into the significance of Tosio Kato’s impact to research in analysis and operator theory.

Book Elementary Operators And Applications In Memory Of Domingo A Herroro Proceedings Of The International Workshop

Download or read book Elementary Operators And Applications In Memory Of Domingo A Herroro Proceedings Of The International Workshop written by Martin Mathieu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992-07-17 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this first international conference entirely devoted to the theory of elementary operators and their interrelations with and applications to other fields was both to give a comprehensive overview of the development of the theory of elementary operators since its beginnings at the end of the last century as well as to discuss some of the recent research done in this area. The volume also includes applications to algebraic properties of linear mappings (on rings as well as on Banach algebras), or to mathematical physics, and connections to related fields such as multiparameter spectral theory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of contributions based on lectures delivered at a school on Fourier Integral Operators held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, 14–26 September 2015, provides an introduction to Fourier Integral Operators (FIO) for a readership of Master and PhD students as well as any interested layperson. Considering the wide spectrum of their applications and the richness of the mathematical tools they involve, FIOs lie the cross-road of many a field. This volume offers the necessary background, whether analytic or geometric, to get acquainted with FIOs, complemented by more advanced material presenting various aspects of active research in that area.

Book Topics in the Theory of Gibbs Semigroups

Download or read book Topics in the Theory of Gibbs Semigroups written by Valentin Zagrebnov and published by Leuven University Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One-parameter semigroup theory started to be an important branch of mathematics in the thirties when it was realized that the theory has direct applications to partial differential equations, random processes, infinite dimensional control theory, mathematical physics, etc. It is now generally accepted as an integral part of contemporary functional analysis. Compact strongly continuous semigroups have been an important research subject since a long time, as in almost all applications of partial differential equations with bounded domains the semigroups turn out to be compact. From this point of view, the present volume of the Leuven Notes in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics emphasizes a special subclass of these semigroups. In fact, the focus here is mainly on semigroups acting on a Hilbert space H with values in the trace class ideal C1(H) of bounded operators on H. Historically, this class of semigroups is closely related to quantum statistical mechanics.
