Book Flexible work arrangements The Nordic Gender Effect at Work

Download or read book Flexible work arrangements The Nordic Gender Effect at Work written by NIKK, Nordic Information on Gender and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2018-08-20 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Promoting gender equality at work is not only a matter of rights; it is the smart thing to do from the perspective of inclusive growth. The Nordic region is a case in point, as it has come to represent the 11th largest economy in the world, not despite policy commitments to gender equality and social justice, but because of it. The Nordic countries have robust economies and good living conditions, where both women and men have high labour force participation rates. However, the gender pay gap is persistent and occupational segregation continues to hinder gender equality. The Nordic Gender Effect at Work briefs share the collective Nordic experience in investing in gender equality including parental leave, childcare, flexible work arrangements, leadership and equal opportunities at work, and seek to make further progress through cooperation.

Book The Nordic road towards Beijing 25

Download or read book The Nordic road towards Beijing 25 written by Nordic Council of Ministers and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2020-02-26 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2020, the global community marks the twenty-fifth anniver-sary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action – the most visionary agenda for the empowerment of women and girls, everywhere. While the United Nations is undertaking and concluding a global review of the Beijing Platform for Action, this very report summarizes the five Nordic countries’ Beijing+25 review reports. It takes stock of progress made thus far – the Nordic road towards Beijing+25. Importantly, the report points towards areas of opportunities for the Nordics – where the prospects for gender equality really lie: in the agency of young people, in intersectional approaches and mind-sets and in the engagement of men and boys in the making of gender equality.

Book Gender Equality and Nation Branding in the Nordic Region

Download or read book Gender Equality and Nation Branding in the Nordic Region written by Eirinn Larsen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-05-25 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how gender equality, a central part of the Nordic imaginary, is used in the political communication of Nordic states. The analyses presented move beyond conventional images and discourses of Nordic gender- and women-friendliness by critically investigating how and to what extent gender equality serves nation-branding in the Nordic region. Nation-branding is an unescapable part of globalisation, which is a market-oriented process dominated by the West and predicated on the creation of winners and losers. Hence, efforts to strengthen the national brand or reputation of specific Nordic countries with the aid of gender equality as a political and symbolic value inevitably help to reinforce already established global hierarchies where the Nordics play the role of moral superpower. This book comprises scholars from various fields of specialisation, and provides evidence and understanding for the growing interaction between gender-equality policies and nation-branding in all five Nordic countries. It does so by exploring a variety of policy fields and issues including women’s rights, foreign policy, rape and legislation, female quotas and business policies, in addition to the index industry. The rise of the global indexes has reproduced forceful images of the Nordic countries as frontrunners of gender equality, which indeed help the Nordic countries to further position themselves as ‘best at being good’. This book will be of great interest to students and scholars of Nordic gender equality in political science, sociology, law, criminology, political psychology and history, as well as those interested in nation branding, Nordic studies and exceptionalism. Book The Nordic region a step closer to gender balance in research Joint Nordic strategies and measures to promote gender balance among researchers in academia

Download or read book The Nordic region a step closer to gender balance in research Joint Nordic strategies and measures to promote gender balance among researchers in academia written by Solveig Bergman and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2013-06-25 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly 80 per cent of all professors in the Nordic region are men. Gender balance in academia is therefore an important research policy issue. Hitherto it has been scarcely debated on a joint Nordic level. This report shows the status and the development in the field. The report gives examples of successful practices and highlights research policy challenges that are important to analyse in a gender and equality perspective. Given the lack of comparative investigations and research on the gender balance in academia in the Nordic region, there is a need to develop Nordic cooperation in this field. The report concludes with a number of recommendations in order to consolidate the issue of gender balance in academia as a joint policy- and research field in the Nordic region.

Book Vocational education and training in the Nordic countries

Download or read book Vocational education and training in the Nordic countries written by Simonsson, Angelica and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2022-03-08 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2022-521/ Both the labour markets and the education systems in the Nordic countries are highly gender segregated. This gender segregation has consequences for study and working conditions, pay, and the distribution of power and resources. Combating gender bias is one of the strategic areas of intervention in official Nordic cooperation in the area of gender equality. The Nordic Council of Ministers co-operation body NIKK was commissioned to conduct a study focusing on gender segregation in VET in the Nordic countries. The study provides an introduction to what we know about VET and gender as an area of knowledge, describes how VET in the Nordic countries is organised, and gives examples of how these countries have worked to break patterns of gender segregation and to retain pupils who belong to the under-represented sex. The study also includes a concluding analysis section.
