Download or read book Nonlinear Mechanics Second Edition written by Demeter G. Fertis and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-12-21 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complicated problems in nonlinear mechanics pose a challenge - many cannot be solved with existing closed-form methods. You would probably like easier methods for obtaining analytical and numerically exact solutions for finite elements, updated or total Lagrangian formulation, and arc-length methods of nonlinear elastic problem solving. Nonlinear Mechanics, Second Edition gives you what you want - convenient methods of analysis and valuable data for comparison. This is the only book to offer a comprehensive treatment of structural components with variable thickness and a variable modulus of elasticity. It is also the only one to cover closed-form solutions for the dynamic and inelastic analysis of members and plates that are subjected to small and large deformations by including axial and vertical restraints. The author uses exact and approximate solutions for static, dynamic, and inelastic analysis. It also discusses aspects of nonlinear vibration of elastically supported beams, nonlinear response of nonuniform rotor blades, and a new concept of airfoil design. With more than 30% updated and new material, this edition is revised and reorganized to meet the needs of both academia and industry. Easy-to-follow equation derivations, example problems, step-by-step procedures, and iterative approaches create a thorough reference that fills present needs and equips you for the challenges of the future.
Download or read book Separation of Variables and Exact Solutions to Nonlinear PDEs written by Andrei D. Polyanin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-09-20 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Separation of Variables and Exact Solutions to Nonlinear PDEs is devoted to describing and applying methods of generalized and functional separation of variables used to find exact solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs). It also presents the direct method of symmetry reductions and its more general version. In addition, the authors describe the differential constraint method, which generalizes many other exact methods. The presentation involves numerous examples of utilizing the methods to find exact solutions to specific nonlinear equations of mathematical physics. The equations of heat and mass transfer, wave theory, hydrodynamics, nonlinear optics, combustion theory, chemical technology, biology, and other disciplines are studied. Particular attention is paid to nonlinear equations of a reasonably general form that depend on one or several arbitrary functions. Such equations are the most difficult to analyze. Their exact solutions are of significant practical interest, as they are suitable to assess the accuracy of various approximate analytical and numerical methods. The book contains new material previously unpublished in monographs. It is intended for a broad audience of scientists, engineers, instructors, and students specializing in applied and computational mathematics, theoretical physics, mechanics, control theory, chemical engineering science, and other disciplines. Individual sections of the book and examples are suitable for lecture courses on partial differential equations, equations of mathematical physics, and methods of mathematical physics, for delivering special courses and for practical training.

Download or read book Nonlinear Dynamics written by Alexander B. Borisov and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2016-11-21 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides a concise and rigor introduction to the fundamentals of methods for solving the principal problems of modern non-linear dynamics. This monograph covers the basic issues of the theory of integrable systems and the theory of dynamical chaos both in nonintegrable conservative and in dissipative systems. A distinguishing feature of the material exposition is to add some comments, historical information, brief biographies and portraits of the researchers who made the most significant contribution to science. This allows one to present the material as accessible and attractive to students to acquire indepth scientific knowledge of nonlinear mechanics, feel the atmosphere where those or other important discoveries were made. The book can be used as a textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate students majoring in high-tech industries and high technology (the science based on high technology) to help them to develop lateral thinking in early stages of training. Download or read book Nonlinear Systems written by P. G. Drazin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1992-06-26 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theories of bifurcation, chaos and fractals as well as equilibrium, stability and nonlinear oscillations, are part of the theory of the evolution of solutions of nonlinear equations. A wide range of mathematical tools and ideas are drawn together in the study of these solutions, and the results applied to diverse and countless problems in the natural and social sciences, even philosophy. The text evolves from courses given by the author in the UK and the United States. It introduces the mathematical properties of nonlinear systems, mostly difference and differential equations, as an integrated theory, rather than presenting isolated fashionable topics. Topics are discussed in as concrete a way as possible and worked examples and problems are used to explain, motivate and illustrate the general principles. The essence of these principles, rather than proof or rigour, is emphasized. More advanced parts of the text are denoted by asterisks, and the mathematical prerequisites are limited to knowledge of linear algebra and advanced calculus, thus making it ideally suited to both senior undergraduates and postgraduates from physics, engineering, chemistry, meteorology etc. as well as mathematics.
Download or read book Topology and Robotics written by Michael Farber and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2007 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since the literary works of Capek and Asimov, mankind has been fascinated by the idea of robots. Modern research in robotics reveals that along with many other branches of mathematics, topology has a fundamental role to play in making these grand ideas a reality. This volume summarizes recent progress in the field of topological robotics--a new discipline at the crossroads of topology, engineering and computer science. Currently, topological robotics is developing in two main directions. On one hand, it studies pure topological problems inspired by robotics and engineering. On the other hand, it uses topological ideas, topological language, topological philosophy, and specially developed tools of algebraic topology to solve problems of engineering and computer science. Examples of research in both these directions are given by articles in this volume, which is designed to be a mixture of various interesting topics of pure mathematics and practical engineering.
Download or read book From Clocks to Chaos written by Leon Glass and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-11-10 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an important new contribution to the literature of chaos, two distinguished researchers in the field of physiology probe central theoretical questions about physiological rhythms. Topics discussed include: How are rhythms generated? How do they start and stop? What are the effects of perturbation of the rhythms? How are oscillations organized in space? Leon Glass and Michael Mackey address an audience of biological scientists, physicians, physical scientists, and mathematicians, but the work assumes no knowledge of advanced mathematics. Variation of rhythms outside normal limits, or appearance of new rhythms where none existed previously, are associated with disease. One of the most interesting features of the book is that it makes a start at explaining "dynamical diseases" that are not the result of infection by pathogens but that stem from abnormalities in the timing of essential functions. From Clocks to Chaos provides a firm foundation for understanding dynamic processes in physiology.
