Book Nonlinear Markov Processes and Kinetic Equations

Download or read book Nonlinear Markov Processes and Kinetic Equations written by Vassili N. Kolokoltsov and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-07-15 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A nonlinear Markov evolution is a dynamical system generated by a measure-valued ordinary differential equation with the specific feature of preserving positivity. This feature distinguishes it from general vector-valued differential equations and yields a natural link with probability, both in interpreting results and in the tools of analysis. This brilliant book, the first devoted to the area, develops this interplay between probability and analysis. After systematically presenting both analytic and probabilistic techniques, the author uses probability to obtain deeper insight into nonlinear dynamics, and analysis to tackle difficult problems in the description of random and chaotic behavior. The book addresses the most fundamental questions in the theory of nonlinear Markov processes: existence, uniqueness, constructions, approximation schemes, regularity, law of large numbers and probabilistic interpretations. Its careful exposition makes the book accessible to researchers and graduate students in stochastic and functional analysis with applications to mathematical physics and systems biology.

Book Controlled Markov processes and viscosity solutions of nonlinear evolution

Download or read book Controlled Markov processes and viscosity solutions of nonlinear evolution written by Wendell H. Fleming and published by Edizioni della Normale. This book was released on 1988-10-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes are based on a series of lectures delivered at the Scuola Normale Superiore in March 1986. They are intended to explore some connections between the theory of control of Markov stochastic processes and certain classes of nonlinear evolution equations. These connections arise by considering the dynamic programming equation associated with a stochastic control problem. Particular attention is given to controlled Markov diffusion processes on finite dimensional Euclidean space. In that case, the dynamic programming equation is a nonlinear partial differential equation of second order elliptic or parabolic type. For deterministic control the dynamic programming equation reduces to first order. From the viewpoint of nonlinear evolution equations, the interest is in whether one can find some stochastic control problem for which the given evolution equation is the dynamic programming equation. Classical solutions to first order or degenerate second order elliptic/parabolic equations with given boundary Cauchy data do not usually exist. One must instead consider generalized solutions. Viscosity solutions methods have substantially extended the theory.

The specific applications are wide-ranging – including inspection and corruption, cyber-security, counterterrorism, coalition building and network growth, minority games, and investment policies and optimal allocation – making this book relevant to a wide audience of applied mathematicians interested in operations research, computer science, national security, economics, and finance.

Book Probabilistic Theory of Mean Field Games with Applications II

Download or read book Probabilistic Theory of Mean Field Games with Applications II written by René Carmona and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-08 with total page 712 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-volume book offers a comprehensive treatment of the probabilistic approach to mean field game models and their applications. The book is self-contained in nature and includes original material and applications with explicit examples throughout, including numerical solutions. Volume II tackles the analysis of mean field games in which the players are affected by a common source of noise. The first part of the volume introduces and studies the concepts of weak and strong equilibria, and establishes general solvability results. The second part is devoted to the study of the master equation, a partial differential equation satisfied by the value function of the game over the space of probability measures. Existence of viscosity and classical solutions are proven and used to study asymptotics of games with finitely many players. Together, both Volume I and Volume II will greatly benefit mathematical graduate students and researchers interested in mean field games. The authors provide a detailed road map through the book allowing different access points for different readers and building up the level of technical detail. The accessible approach and overview will allow interested researchers in the applied sciences to obtain a clear overview of the state of the art in mean field games.

Book Theory of Markov Processes

Download or read book Theory of Markov Processes written by E. B. Dynkin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theory of Markov Processes provides information pertinent to the logical foundations of the theory of Markov random processes. This book discusses the properties of the trajectories of Markov processes and their infinitesimal operators. Organized into six chapters, this book begins with an overview of the necessary concepts and theorems from measure theory. This text then provides a general definition of Markov process and investigates the operations that make possible an inspection of the class of Markov processes corresponding to a given transition function. Other chapters consider the more complicated operation of generating a subprocess. This book discusses as well the construction of Markov processes with given transition functions. The final chapter deals with the conditions to be imposed on the transition function so that among the Markov processes corresponding to this function, there should be at least one. This book is a valuable resource for mathematicians, students, and research workers.

Book Understanding Game Theory Introduction To The Analysis Of Many Agent Systems With Competition And Cooperation Second Edition

Download or read book Understanding Game Theory Introduction To The Analysis Of Many Agent Systems With Competition And Cooperation Second Edition written by Vasily N Kolokoltsov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-08-21 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steadily growing applications of game theory in modern science (including psychology, biology and economics) require sources to provide rapid access in both classical tools and recent developments to readers with diverse backgrounds. This book on game theory, its applications and mathematical methods, is written with this objective in mind. The book gives a concise but wide-ranging introduction to games including older (pre-game theory) party games and more recent topics like elections and evolutionary games and is generously spiced with excursions into philosophy, history, literature and politics. A distinguished feature is the clear separation of the text into two parts: elementary and advanced, which makes the book ideal for study at various levels.Part I displays basic ideas using no more than four arithmetic operations and requiring from the reader only some inclination to logical thinking. It can be used in a university degree course without any (or minimal) prerequisite in mathematics (say, in economics, business, systems biology), as well as for self-study by school teachers, social and natural scientists, businessmen or laymen. Part II is a rapid introduction to the mathematical methods of game theory, suitable for a mathematics degree course of various levels. To stimulate the mathematical and scientific imagination, graphics by a world-renowned mathematician and mathematics imaging artist, A T Fomenko, are used. The carefully selected works of this artist fit remarkably into the many ideas expressed in the book. This new edition has been updated and enlarged. In particular, two new chapters were added on statistical limit of games with many agents and on quantum games, reflecting possibly the two most stunning trends in the game theory of the 21st century.
