Book excerpt: The authors report new results on new physics searches beyond the Standard Model, on the searches for charged heavy vector boson (W{prime}), excited fermions ({mu}*, q*), and leptoquarks at the CDF and D0 experiments in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV.

Book Non SUSY Searches at the Tevatron

Download or read book Non SUSY Searches at the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fermilab Tevatron collider experiments, CDF and D0, have collected (almost equal to) 200 pb−1 of data at (square root)s = 1.96 TeV since March 2002 (RunII). Both experiments have investigated physics beyond the standard model; this paper reviews some of the recent results on the searches for new phenomena, concentrating on Z', extra dimensions, excited electrons and lepto quarks. No signal was observed, therefore stringent limits on the signatures and models were derived.

Book Non susy Exotics Searches at the Tevatron

Download or read book Non susy Exotics Searches at the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present results of searches for signs of physics beyond the Standard Model. The focus of this paper is on analyses not driven by SUSY models. Most of the presented results are based on (almost equal to) 2 fb−1 of data and obtained since summer of 2007. No significant excess of data over predicted background is observed. They report kinematic distributions, data and background counts, as well as limits on some parameters of selected models of new physics.

Book Non SUSY Exotic Particle Searches at the Tevatron

Download or read book Non SUSY Exotic Particle Searches at the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1992 and 1995, the CDF and D0 collaborations collected data from p{anti p} collisions at (square root)s = 1.8 TeV. Recently, several analyses of this data have been performed in search of evidence for various non-Supersymmetric exotic particles. As no evidence for the existence of these particles is observed, confidence level limits are established for exotic particle predictions from various theoretical models. Analyses presented here include searches for Standard Model Higgs, technicolor particles, topcolor-assissted technicolor bosons, and flavor-universal colorons.

Book Probing Physics Beyond the SM at Tevatron

Book excerpt: Tevatron Experiments: CDF and 6 D0 collected during October 1992 and February 1996 (Run I) a data sample of roughly 120 pb−1 p {bar p} collisions at a center of mass energy (square root)s = 1.8 TeV. Book Search for New Physics at the Tevatron

Download or read book Search for New Physics at the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report on selected recent results from the CDF and D0 experiments on searches for physics beyond the Standard Model using data from the Tevatron collider running p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1960 GeV. Over the past decades the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics has been surprisingly successful. Although the precision of experimental tests improved by orders of magnitude no significant deviation from the SM predictions has been observed so far. Still, there are many questions that the Standard Model does not answer and problems it can not solve. Among the most important ones are the origin of the electro-weak symmetry breaking, hierarchy of scales, unification of fundamental forces and the nature of gravity. Recent cosmological observations indicates that the SM particles only account for 4% of the matter of the Universe. Many extensions of the SM (Beyond the Standard Model, BSM) have been proposed to make the theory more complete and solve some of the above puzzles. Some of these extension includes SuperSymmetry (SUSY), Grand Unification Theory (GUT) and Extra Dimensions. At CDF and D0 we search for evidence of such processes in proton-antiproton collisions at √(s) = 1960 GeV. The phenomenology of these models is very rich, although the cross sections for most of these exotic processes is often very small compared to those of SM processes at hadron colliders. It is then necessary to devise analysis strategies that would allow to disentangle the small interesting signals, often buried under heavy instrumental and/or physics background. Two main approaches to search for physics beyond the Standard Model are used in a complementary fashion: model-based analyses and signature based studies. In the more traditional model-driven approach, one picks a favorite theoretical model and/or a process, and the best signature is chosen. The selection cuts are optimized based on acceptance studies performed using simulated signal events. The expected background is calculated from data and/or Monte Carlo and, based on the number of events observed in the data, a discovery is made or the best limit on the new signal is set. In a signature-based approach a specific signature is picked (i.e. dileptons+X) and the data sample is defined in terms of known SM processes. A signal region (blind box) might be defined with cuts which are kept as loose as possible and the background predictions in the signal region are often extrapolated from control regions. Inconsistencies with the SM predictions will provide indication of possible new physics. As the cuts and acceptances are often calculated independently from a model, different models can be tested against the data sample. It should be noticed that the comparison with a specific model implies calculating optimized acceptances for a specific BSM signal. In signature-based searches, there is no such an optimization. Both the experiments have followed a somehow natural approach in pursuing analysis looking at final state signatures characterized by relatively simple physics objects (for example lepton-only final state, where the selection of the leptons is straightforward and can be easily checked with the measurement of electroweak boson production cross sections) and proceeding onto more complex final state, including jets and heavy flavor. Here more sophisticated identification techniques need to be used and issues like jet energy scale calibration play an important role in determining the final result. Given the limited space available for this proceeding, we will focus here on few selected results.

Book BSM non SUSY Searches at Tevatron

Download or read book BSM non SUSY Searches at Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many extensions of the Standard Model, other that Supersymmetry, predict the existence of new heavy resonances or heavy quarks, the existence of extra dimensions which will manifest themselves by the presence of gravitons states, or a possible compositeness of quarks and leptons. Results of some of the 'Beyond Standard Model' searches made by the CDF and D0 collaborations at the Tevatron are presented. These analyses are using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity up to 4.1 fb−1. Searches for Z(prime), W(prime), graviton, a new quark b(prime), quark compositeness, Leptoquarks or new long-lived particles are described here.

Book Searches for Higgs Bosons and Supersymmetry at the Tevatron

Download or read book Searches for Higgs Bosons and Supersymmetry at the Tevatron written by Volker Buscher and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With almost 0.5 fb{sup -1} of p{bar p}-collisions delivered in Tevatron Run II, both experiments CDF and D0 are reporting first results from a vast number of search analyses. This article summarizes the current status of Tevatron searches for Higgs bosons within the Standard Model and its extensions as well as direct searches for supersymmetric particles. Signatures for production of squarks, gluinos, charginos and neutralinos as predicted by gravity- and gauge-mediated SUSY breaking scenarios have been considered. No evidence for Higgs bosons or SUSY particles has been found so far. New limits are derived which significantly improve on existing limits.
