Book Convergence of One Parameter Operator Semigroups

Download or read book Convergence of One Parameter Operator Semigroups written by Adam Bobrowski and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-07-14 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a detailed and contemporary account of the classical theory of convergence of semigroups and its more recent development treating the case where the limit semigroup, in contrast to the approximating semigroups, acts merely on a subspace of the original Banach space (this is the case, for example, with singular perturbations). The author demonstrates the far-reaching applications of this theory using real examples from various branches of pure and applied mathematics, with a particular emphasis on mathematical biology. The book may serve as a useful reference, containing a significant number of new results ranging from the analysis of fish populations to signaling pathways in living cells. It comprises many short chapters, which allows readers to pick and choose those topics most relevant to them, and it contains 160 end-of-chapter exercises so that readers can test their understanding of the material as they go along.

Book The Asymptotic Behaviour of Semigroups of Linear Operators

Download or read book The Asymptotic Behaviour of Semigroups of Linear Operators written by Jan van Neerven and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systematic account of the theory of asymptotic behaviour of semigroups of linear operators acting in a Banach space. The focus is on the relationship between asymptotic behaviour of the semigroup and spectral properties of its infinitesimal generator. The most recent developments in the field are included, such as the Arendt-Batty-Lyubich-Vu theorem, the spectral mapp- ing theorem of Latushkin and Montgomery-Smith, Weis's theorem on stability of positive semigroup in Lp-spaces, the stability theorem for semigroups whose resolvent is bounded in a half-plane, and a systematic theory of individual stability. Addressed to researchers and graduate students with interest in the fields of operator semigroups and evolution equations, this book is self-contained and provides complete proofs.

Book Complex Analysis and Spectral Theory

Download or read book Complex Analysis and Spectral Theory written by H. Garth Dales and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2020-02-07 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the Conference on Complex Analysis and Spectral Theory, in celebration of Thomas Ransford's 60th birthday, held from May 21–25, 2018, at Laval University, Québec, Canada. Spectral theory is the branch of mathematics devoted to the study of matrices and their eigenvalues, as well as their infinite-dimensional counterparts, linear operators and their spectra. Spectral theory is ubiquitous in science and engineering because so many physical phenomena, being essentially linear in nature, can be modelled using linear operators. On the other hand, complex analysis is the calculus of functions of a complex variable. They are widely used in mathematics, physics, and in engineering. Both topics are related to numerous other domains in mathematics as well as other branches of science and engineering. The list includes, but is not restricted to, analytical mechanics, physics, astronomy (celestial mechanics), geology (weather modeling), chemistry (reaction rates), biology, population modeling, economics (stock trends, interest rates and the market equilibrium price changes). There are many other connections, and in recent years there has been a tremendous amount of work on reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces of analytic functions, on the operators acting on them, as well as on applications in physics and engineering, which arise from pure topics like interpolation and sampling. Many of these connections are discussed in articles included in this book.

Book Non Self Adjoint Differential Operators Spectral Asymptotics and Random Perturbations

Download or read book Non Self Adjoint Differential Operators Spectral Asymptotics and Random Perturbations written by Johannes Sjöstrand and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-05-17 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The asymptotic distribution of eigenvalues of self-adjoint differential operators in the high-energy limit, or the semi-classical limit, is a classical subject going back to H. Weyl of more than a century ago. In the last decades there has been a renewed interest in non-self-adjoint differential operators which have many subtle properties such as instability under small perturbations. Quite remarkably, when adding small random perturbations to such operators, the eigenvalues tend to distribute according to Weyl's law (quite differently from the distribution for the unperturbed operators in analytic cases). A first result in this direction was obtained by M. Hager in her thesis of 2005. Since then, further general results have been obtained, which are the main subject of the present book. Additional themes from the theory of non-self-adjoint operators are also treated. The methods are very much based on microlocal analysis and especially on pseudodifferential operators. The reader will find a broad field with plenty of open problems.

Part II explores generalizations of spectral theory’s connection to operator semigroups.

Book Stability of Operators and Operator Semigroups

Download or read book Stability of Operators and Operator Semigroups written by Tanja Eisner and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2019-10-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The asymptotic behaviour, in particular "stability" in some sense, is studied systematically for discrete and for continuous linear dynamical systems on Banach spaces. Of particular concern is convergence to an equilibrium with respect to various topologies. Parallels and differences between the discrete and the continuous situation are emphasised.
