I do not pin hope on my weak powers. I only put my hopes on the grace of God, given to the apostles on the day of Pentecost, which made them, the unwise and unbooks, the “wise fishers” of the universe. And the fact that I, a sinner and weak, are worthy of this great apostolic grace in the days of Pentecost, fills my soul with a special high spiritual joy and hope for the all-powerful help of God. Come to me, O Good Comforter, and cleanse me from all filth, sharing me with Thy holiness, and non-evening light, and Divine lives, and the most fragrant dispensing (canon 6 to the Holy Spirit). Holy Hierarchs of God! Calling on this fiery Spirit of grace onto my sinful head, pray the Lord, that it would burn out in me all sinful impurity, that it would sanctify and enlighten me, that it would instruct me in all truth and that it would make me worthy of this great and terrible, blessed and glorious service.

Book excerpt: Poetry. " Leslie Scalapino is a stunningly original writer. Poised on an edge between space and claustrophobia, this poet bears stark witness to the broken narratives of thousands dead or off shore. CROUD AND NOT EVENING OR LIGHT scatters literary criticism, drama and the photographic index across a wilderness of everyday language like love"-Susan Howe.

Book The New Doctrine of Sophia the Wisdom of God

Download or read book The New Doctrine of Sophia the Wisdom of God written by St. Seraphim (Sobolev) and published by Vladimir Djambov. This book was released on with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Wealth without work Pleasure without conscience Science without humanity Knowledge without character Politics without principle Commerce without morality Worship without sacrifice. https://vidjambov.blogspot.com/2023/01/book-inventory-vladimir-djambov-talmach.html In recent years, when it became possible to send books to Russia, some publishing houses, between their other publications, sent there many works of a religious and philosophical direction. Between them were the works of Archpriest Sergiy Bulgakov, which contained his special heretical teaching on Sofia and on “sophistry”. Since the Russian reader is not sophisticated in these matters, and many are embarrassed by this doctrine, which is clearly not in accordance with the church doctrine, in this regard requests come from there to give a correct explanation of this direction. Therefore, our publishing house has taken steps to reprint a thorough work on this issue of Archbishop Seraphim (Sobolev) - "The New Doctrine of Sophia the Wisdom of God." In this work, His Grace Archbishop Seraphim skillfully and convincingly exposes the teachings of Archpriest S. Bulgakov about Sophia, the Wisdom of God. The author shows in an exhaustive manner that the sophiology of Archpriest Sergius Bulgakov is not consistent with the Orthodox tradition. This is his teaching, of course, in a rougher, currently unacceptable form, characteristic of almost all Gnostic sects, starting from the first centuries of Christianity. Through the Kabbalistic-occult tradition and further through the Rosicrucians in the genus Jacob Boehme, and through the Freemasons, whose writings became widespread in Russia at the end of the 18th century, these Gnostic tendencies also spread to Russia. In the future, this direction was resumed in the writings of V.S. Solovyov and prot. Pavel Florensky. Therefore now, when they try to spread this false doctrine of neo-Gnosticism among the inexperienced Russian reader, by sending books Archpriest S. Bulgakov or by printing the works of prot. Pavel Florensky, we believe that the work of Archbishop Seraphim is very necessary, and will help many understand this anti-church direction, to which the writings of the mentioned philosopher writers lead.

Book excerpt: “Wealth without work Pleasure without conscience Science without humanity Knowledge without character Politics without principle Commerce without morality Worship without sacrifice. https://vidjambov.blogspot.com/2023/01/book-inventory-vladimir-djambov-talmach.html Try, brother, yourself to be kind, and if you find that you have no shortage of anything said, but you do everything with great zeal and a warm heart, then you will understand that with the light of faith you have an unshaming hope; not the hope that is generated by the conceit and vanity of those who perish, and what hope of the charms and lies none of those who nourish can know, but the hope, I say, good, true, and which comes with the true and non-deceiving light of faith, and on top of which you will see the love that is God, seated, as on the Cherubim. When you gain this love in this way and see it, then and after you will not want to torture much about anything future and invisible, you will even force others to not talk about anything like that, you will convince them not to torture about any of this and not to start controversy and contests about what has to be in another life, you yourself learned from a generation of experience that the whole future and the invisible are inexplicable and unthinkable. If you haven’t done yet what may be the first to let you know that you are truly a faithful Christian — but in comparison with the infidels, you are faithful, and in comparison with the faithful, you are convicted of your conscience, like an infidel, perfect hope and assurance that you are among the saved, and you cannot speak, as St. Paul said: even you will force others to not talk about anything like this, you will persuade them not to torture about any of this and not to start disputes and contests about what has to be in another life, you yourself learned from the experience that the whole future and the invisible is inexplicable and unthinkable. If you haven’t done yet what may be the first to let you know that you are truly a faithful Christian... the boldness to pray to the Comforter, as St Simeon the New Theologian — that great devotee of the Divine Beauty — exclaimed with unrivaled lyricism: "Come, true light. Come, eternal life. Come, hidden mystery. Come, unnameable treasure. Come, reality beyond any speech. Come, person beyond all comprehension. Come, unceasing exultation. Come, impenetrable light. Come, unfailing hope of the saved. Come, lifter up of the fallen. Come, resurrection of the dead. Come, Almighty, for Thou dost unceasingly create, transfigure, and change all things by Thy will alone. Come, invisible one that none can touch or feel. Come, for Thy name fills our hearts with desire and is always on our lips; but Who Thou art and what Thy nature is, we cannot say or know. Come, unique one in one. Come, for Thou Thyself art the desire within me. Come, my breath and my life. Come, comfort of my lowly soul. ..." From sullied lips, From an abominable heart, From an unclean tongue, Out of a polluted soul, Receive my prayer, O my Christ. Reject me not...

Book New Oxford Textbook of Psychiatry

Download or read book New Oxford Textbook of Psychiatry written by John R. Geddes and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 1537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over its two editions, The New Oxford Textbook of Psychiatry has come to be regarded as one of the most popular and trusted standard psychiatry texts among psychiatrists and trainees. Bringing together 146 chapters from the leading figures in the discipline, it presents a comprehensive account of clinical psychiatry, with reference to its scientific basis and to the patient's perspective throughout. The New Oxford Textbook of Psychiatry, Third Edition has been extensively re-structured and streamlined to keep pace with the significant developments that have taken place in the fields of clinical psychiatry and neuroscience since publication of the second edition in 2009. The new edition has been updated throughout to include the most recent versions of the two main classification systems---the DSM-5 and the ICD-11---used throughout the world for the diagnosis of mental disorders. In the years since publication of the first edition, many new and exciting discoveries have occurred in the biological sciences, which are having a major impact on how we study and practise psychiatry. In addition, psychiatry has fostered closer ties with philosophy, and these are leading to healthy discussions about how we should diagnose and treat mental illness. This new edition recognises these and other developments. Throughout, accounts of clinical practice are linked to the underlying science, and to the evidence for the efficacy of treatments. Physical and psychological treatments, including psychodynamic approaches, are covered in depth. The history of psychiatry, ethics, public health aspects, and public attitudes to psychiatry and to patients are all given due attention.

Book Visual and Non Visual Effects of Light

Download or read book Visual and Non Visual Effects of Light written by Agnieszka Wolska and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-07-29 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The introduction of artificial lighting extends the time of wakefulness after dark and enables work at night, thus disturbing the human circadian rhythm. The understanding of the physiological mechanisms of visual and non-visual systems may be important for the development and use of proper light infrastructure and light interventions for different workplace settings, especially for shift work conditions. Visual and Non-Visual Effects of Light: Working Environment and Well-Being presents the impact of lighting in the working environment on human health, well-being and visual performance. The physiological explanation of the visual and non-visual effects of light on humans which discusses the biological bases of image and non-image forming vision at the cellular level may be of particular interest to any professional in the field of medicine, physiology, and biology. It is one of the intentions of this book to put forward some recommendations and examples of lighting design which take into account both the visual and non-visual effects of light on humans. These may be of particular interest to any professional in the field of lighting, occupational safety and health, and interior design. "What effects on health can a light ‘overdose’ or light deficiency have? What is bad light? The authors of the monograph provide answers to these questions. Just as for a physicist, the dual nature of light comprises an electromagnetic wave and a photon, the duality of light for a physician comprises visual and non-visual effects." --------------------------------------------------------Prof Jacek Przybylski, Medical University of Warsaw "This is a unique publication in the field of lighting technology. The authors have skillfully combined both the technical and biomedical aspects involved, which is unprecedented in the literature available. As a result, an important study has been created for many professional groups, with a significant impact on the assessment of risks associated with LED sources." --------------------------------------------Prof Andrzej Zając, Military University of Technology, Warsaw
