Book Non Destructive Estimation of Pavement Thickness Structural Number and Subgrade Resilience Along INDOT Highways

Download or read book Non Destructive Estimation of Pavement Thickness Structural Number and Subgrade Resilience Along INDOT Highways written by Samy Noureldin and published by . This book was released on 2005-05-01 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nondestructive testing has become an integral part for evaluation and rehabilitation strategies of pavements in recent years. Pavement evaluation employing the Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) and the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) can provide valuable information about pavement performance characteristics and be a very useful tool for project prioritization purposes and estimation of construction budget at the network level. FWD deflection testing is an accurate tool for determining pavement structural capacity and estimating the required thickness of overlays and hence is an accurate tool for planning for or estimating required current and future construction budgets. GPR is the only tool that a highway agency may use to develop an inventory of pavement layers thicknesses in the most efficient manner possible. By estimating pavement layer thicknesses and stiffness properties more reliable projections of network rehabilitation strategies and needs can be established, thus resulting in cost effective use of available funds. Traditional obstacles for the use of FWD and GPR in pavement evaluation at the network level used to be expenses involved in data collection, limited resources and lack of simplified analysis procedures. This report presents Indiana experience in pavement evaluation with the FWD and GPR at the network level.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The feasibility is investigated of various acoustic (sonic), nuclear, and electrical techniques for nondestructive measurement of Portland cement and bituminous concrete pavement thickness both during and after construction. Recommendations are made for equipment development and field testing of three specific methods that could potentially result in such measurements with the desired degree of speed and accuracy.

Book Non Destructive Assessment of Concrete Structures Reliability and Limits of Single and Combined Techniques

Download or read book Non Destructive Assessment of Concrete Structures Reliability and Limits of Single and Combined Techniques written by Denys Breysse and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-21 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives information on non destructive techniques for assessment of concrete structures. It synthesizes the best of international knowledge about what techniques can be used for assessing material properties (strength) and structural properties (geometry, defects...). It describes how the techniques can be used so as to answer a series of usual questions, highlighting their capabilities and limits, and providing advices for a better use of techniques. It also focuses on possible combinations of techniques so as to improve the assessment. It is based on many illustrative examples and give in each case references to standards and guidelines.

Book ASSESSMENT EVALUATION OF STRUCTURE USING ADVANCED UNDISTRUCTIVE METHODS

Download or read book ASSESSMENT EVALUATION OF STRUCTURE USING ADVANCED UNDISTRUCTIVE METHODS written by Dr. Ashad Ullah Qureshi and published by Concepts Books Publication. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reinforced and pre-stressed concrete are widely used for the construction of infrastructures such as bridges, industrial structures, buildings, etc. Most of the time, the quality of the concrete mix is assumed to be guaranteed but due to the congestion of reinforcement and the quality control exercised during placing and vibrating, honeycombs and voids are likely to be present in the hardened concrete. The presence of voids leads to the early deterioration of concrete and corrosion also sets in. The corrosion of reinforcement causes damage to the cover concrete and also section loss in the area of steel. In the case of pre-stressed concrete members, the corrosion leads to a catastrophic failure without any warning. Hence, it becomes necessary to evaluate the condition of concrete using Non Destructive Techniques (NDT) and Partially Destructive Techniques (PDT). The Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) method which is widely adopted till now gives the relative quality and integrity of concrete and is based on the transit time. The rebound hammer gives the quality of concrete in the cover zone based on the rebound number.
