Tentacles, eyestalks, and ovipositors, oh my. This is sexy, pulpy fun." —Cecilia Tan, award-winning author of Slow Surrender The Tentacle Monsters have always been sentient, but now they can talk in a way humans can understand. Ensign Sandra Tevins of the Star Patrol has signed up to train for the job of harnessing their incredible power to bend space/time to their will. She is learning to handle them--and be handled by them, as monsters have a particular hunger for human sexual submission. Sandra is not new to dominance and submission, having a long-standing D/s relationship in her kinky poly family, but the demands of her training go beyond anything she has experienced before. But all is not well in the Star Patrol. There is a conspiracy afoot to cause the tentacle monster program to fail, and if it does, war will engulf the galaxy. After her classmates are eliminated one by one, Sandra is the only one who can prevent it. Assisted by a tentacle monster named Kernunnos and Paul Garnet, agent of the I.A.I.A, Sandra takes on this conspiracy with every tool at her disposal.

Book Indian Antiquary

Book excerpt: "At a time when each Society had its own medium of propogation of its researches ... in the form of Transactions, Proceedings, Journals, etc., a need was strongly felt for bringing out a journal devoted exclusively to the study and advancement of Indian culture in all its aspects. [This] encouraged Jas Burgess to launch the 'Indian antiquary' in 1872. The scope ... was in his own words 'as wide as possible' incorporating manners and customs, arts, mythology, feasts, festivals and rites, antiquities and the history of India ... Another laudable aim was to present the readers abstracts of the most recent researches of scholars in India and the West ... 'Indian antiquary' also dealt with local legends, folklore, proverbs, etc. In short 'Indian antiquary' was ...entirely devoted to the study of MAN - the Indian - in all spheres ... " -- introduction to facsimile volumes, published 1985.

Book Chemistry of Spices

  • Author : V. A. Parthasarathy
  • Publisher : CABI
  • Release : 2008
  • ISBN : 1845934202
  • Pages : 457 pages

Download or read book Chemistry of Spices written by V. A. Parthasarathy and published by CABI. This book was released on 2008 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spices are high value, export-oriented crops used extensively in food and beverage flavourings, medicines, cosmetics and perfumes. Interest is growing however in the theoretical and practical aspects of the biosynthetic mechanisms of active components in spices as well as the relationship between the biological activity and chemical structure of these secondary metabolites. A wide variety of phenolic substances and amides derived from spices have been found to possess potent chemopreventive, anti-mutagenic, anti-oxidant and anti-carcinogenic properties. Representing the first discussion of the chemical properties of a wide cross section of important spices, this book covers extensively the three broad categories of plant-derived natural products: the terpenoids, the alkaloids and the phenyl propanoids and allied phenolic compounds. Spice crops such as black pepper, ginger, turmeric and coriander are covered with information on botany, composition, uses, chemistry, international specifications and the properties of a broad range of common and uncommon spices.

Book Molecular Biomineralization

    Book Details:
  • Author : Werner E. G. Müller
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2011-08-30
  • ISBN : 3642212301
  • Pages : 404 pages

Download or read book Molecular Biomineralization written by Werner E. G. Müller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-08-30 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of ‘biomineralization’ signifies mineralization processes that take place in close association with organic molecules or matrices. The awareness that mineral formation can be guided by organic molecules notably contributed to the understanding of the formation of the inorganic skeletons of living organisms. Modern electron microscopic and spectroscopic analyses have successfully demonstrated the participation of biological systems in several mineralization processes, and prominent examples include the formation of bio-silica in diatoms and sponges. This insight has already made the application of recombinant technology for the production of valuable inorganic polymers, such as bio-silica, possible. This polymer can be formed by silicatein under conditions that cannot be matched by chemical means. Similarly, the efforts described in this book have elucidated that certain organisms, bacteria in deep-sea polymetallic nodules and coccoliths in seamount crusts, are involved in the deposition of marine minerals. Strategies have already been developed to utilize such microorganisms for the biosynthesis and bioleaching of marine deposits. Moreover, studies reveal that bio-polymers enhance the hydroxyapatite formation of bone-forming cells and alter the expression of important regulators of bone resorption, suggesting a potential for bone regeneration and treatment / prevention of osteoporosis.
