Book excerpt: All of London knows Eleanor has a temper, and she’s about to lose it. Her father expects her marriage to be advantageous—for him. It’s that or a French nunnery, complete with cold baths and spiders. She’s desperate to convince the gentleman she prefers to propose first. Jesper has no time to grieve the loss of his father. Face to face with his own mortality, the new baronet needs an heir. And the first step is to travel to London to find a nice, placid wife. He crosses paths, and wits, with a viscount’s daughter who’s always ready to spit thorns. But Jesper soon realizes that Eleanor Henry is in more trouble than she knows. He might be the shabbiest of baronets, but he’s cared for Roseford’s people and its wild lands; how hard could it be to help one friendless woman? It’s not like they’re in danger of falling in love. Travel back to the Georgian years for the love story of Sir Michael’s parents. An icy London lady, a ragged, bereft baronet—what could go wrong? Winner, 2022 Heart Award for Best Steamy Romance - Oklahoma Romance Writers Guild "...Jesper is the charmer and when opposites attract ... I got immediate heart flutters. I did not want to say goodbye at the end." Cathie B., Goodreads reader

  • Pages : 320 pages

Download or read book The No Club written by Linda Babcock and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-05-03 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this “long overdue manifesto on gender equality in the workplace, a practical playbook with tips you can put into action immediately…simply priceless” (Angela Duckworth, bestselling author of Grit), The No Club offers a timely solution to achieving equity at work: unburden women’s careers from work that goes unrewarded. The No Club started when four women, crushed by endless to-do lists, banded together to get their work lives under control. Running faster than ever, they still trailed behind male colleagues. And so, they vowed to say no to requests that pulled them away from the work that mattered most to their careers. This book reveals how their over-a-decade-long journey and subsequent groundbreaking research showing that women everywhere are unfairly burdened with “non-promotable work,” a tremendous problem we can—and must—solve. All organizations have work that no one wants to do: planning the office party, screening interns, attending to that time-consuming client, or simply helping others with their work. A woman, most often, takes on these tasks. In study after study, professors Linda Babcock (bestselling author of Women Don’t Ask), Brenda Peyser, Lise Vesterlund, and Laurie Weingart—the original “No Club”—document that women are disproportionately asked and expected to do this work. The imbalance leaves women overcommitted and underutilized as companies forfeit revenue, productivity, and top talent. The No Club walks you through how to change your workload, empowering women to make savvy decisions about the work they take on. The authors also illuminate how organizations can reassess how they assign and reward work to level the playing field. With hard data, personal anecdotes from women of all stripes, self- and workplace-assessments for immediate use, and innovative advice from the authors’ consulting Fortune 500 companies, this book will forever change the conversation about how we advance women’s careers and achieve equity in the 21st century.

Book Early Modern Women s Manuscript Writing

Download or read book Early Modern Women s Manuscript Writing written by Jonathan Gibson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because print publishing was often neither possible nor desirable for women in the early modern period, in order to understand the range of writing by women and indeed women's literary history itself, it is important that scholars consider women's writing in manuscript. Since the body of critical studies on women's writing for the most part prioritizes print over manuscript, this essay collection provides an essential corrective. The essays in this volume discuss many of the ways in which women participated in early modern manuscript culture. The manuscripts studied by the contributors originated in a wide range of different milieux, including the royal Court, the universities, gentry and aristocratic households in England and Ireland, and French convents. Their contents are similarly varied: original and transcribed secular and devotional verse, religious meditations, letters, moral precepts in French and English, and recipes are among the genres represented. Emphasizing the manuscripts' social, political and religious contexts, the contributors challenge commonly held notions about women's writing in English in the early modern period, and bring to light many women whose work has not been considered before.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By day, Lady Donnatella is a duke’s silly daughter. So she can save London lives by night. When she stumbles into something larger than a street fight, everything she's balancing may come crashing down... It's another lonely season for Tella, dancing and gaming madly while keeping marriage away. She cannot tell her family or friends that her true self is the one battling danger in the city's dark streets. Nor will anyone guess; she's perfected her disguise. Then her night-time alter ego is seen — just when she can no longer count on her best friend, or her beloved great-uncle. And the resulting fuss in the newspapers isn't making any of this easier. Nor is the reporter who saw her. Henry Fitzwilliam, third son of a marquess, left London society to serve in the wars, and won’t go back. He’s devoted his life to telling the stories Britain needs to hear, and perhaps this Caped Count falls into that category. He can’t be sure until he gets much, much closer. Tella can handle a fight, but tracking a murderer is higher stakes. She might need someone at her back. Fitz might be the worst choice — or he might be more perfect than either of them suspects.
