Book No Such Thing As Terminal

Download or read book No Such Thing As Terminal written by Southern Jameson West and published by . This book was released on 2013-05 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "No Such Thing as Terminal : The Re-Discovery of the Lost Secret German Cure for Cancer and The Fountain of Youth. " Genetic Engineering is not just a futuristic fantasy which is often how Hollywood portrays it to be. Rather it exists in the here and the now and has been in existence with a technical theory that has been giving positive results since the 1930's. These innovations have however been secretly suppressed for a multitude of reasons not the least of which is political power. Now in this book is discussed one person's accidental hit on the secret cure for cancer using genetic engineering. A cure which has existed since the 1930's and has repeatedly been tried both in vivo and in vitro. Herein is explored one person's speculations, scientific discoveries, and evidence of both the credibility of the medicine and the conspiracy of the cover-up. DNA was not first discovered by Crick and Watson nor were they really the first to describe its structure. This was done long before them with the advent of the invention of Quantum Mechanics which began in earnest in 1926 with the work of Schrodinger and earlier with the work of Von Laue in crystallography.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the middle of the night, Mayor Jordanna Gray receives an alarming call from the police. Flames have suddenly engulfed a section of Amber Rose, a small community in California. Nearly a hundred people are dead. The obvious cause is the huge explosion of a natural gas pipeline owned by the AmSac Pipeline Company. Headed by Dr. John Foster, an AmSac investigative team arrives to find out why the pipes ruptured. A prominent California Senator broadcasts his criticism of AmSac to the nation, seeking federal review of the company's maintenance records. The political fallout causes problems for John. He discovers that the pipeline maintenance hasn't been conducted for years and that prior inspection reports show that the pipe was most likely corroded. This knowledge makes him a dangerous and unpredictable source of trouble for the company. The complex scientific investigation takes on unexpected dimensions when John and Jordanna are almost murdered. Suspicions abound as to why someone wants them dead. Is it that John and Jordanna know too much? Their lives suddenly depend on finding out who is responsible for a decades-long conspiracy-even if it brings down one of the most influential and powerful elements in the nation.

Book No Such Thing as Normal

Download or read book No Such Thing as Normal written by Bryony Gordon and published by Headline. This book was released on 2021-01-07 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Mental illness has led to some of the worst times of my life... but it has also led to some of the most brilliant. Bad things happen, but good things can come from them. And strange as it might sound, my mental health has been vastly improved by being mentally ill.' From depression and anxiety to personality disorders, one in four of us experience mental health issues every year and, in these strange and unsettling times, more of us than ever are struggling to cope. In No Such Thing As Normal, Bryony offers sensible, practical advice, covering subjects such as sleep, addiction, worry, medication, self-image, boundary setting, therapy, learned behaviour, mindfulness and, of course - as the founder of Mental Health Mates - the power of walking and talking. She also strives to equip those in need of help with tools and information to get the best out of a poorly funded system that can be both frightening and overwhelming. The result is a lively, honest and direct guide to mental health that cuts through the Instagram-wellness bubble to talk about how each of us can feel stronger, better and just a little bit less alone.

Book When Breath Becomes Air

Download or read book When Breath Becomes Air written by Paul Kalanithi and published by Random House. This book was released on 2016-01-12 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • PULITZER PRIZE FINALIST • This inspiring, exquisitely observed memoir finds hope and beauty in the face of insurmountable odds as an idealistic young neurosurgeon attempts to answer the question What makes a life worth living? NAMED ONE OF PASTE’S BEST MEMOIRS OF THE DECADE • NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY The New York Times Book Review • People • NPR • The Washington Post • Slate • Harper’s Bazaar • Time Out New York • Publishers Weekly • BookPage Finalist for the PEN Center USA Literary Award in Creative Nonfiction and the Books for a Better Life Award in Inspirational Memoir At the age of thirty-six, on the verge of completing a decade’s worth of training as a neurosurgeon, Paul Kalanithi was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. One day he was a doctor treating the dying, and the next he was a patient struggling to live. And just like that, the future he and his wife had imagined evaporated. When Breath Becomes Air chronicles Kalanithi’s transformation from a naïve medical student “possessed,” as he wrote, “by the question of what, given that all organisms die, makes a virtuous and meaningful life” into a neurosurgeon at Stanford working in the brain, the most critical place for human identity, and finally into a patient and new father confronting his own mortality. What makes life worth living in the face of death? What do you do when the future, no longer a ladder toward your goals in life, flattens out into a perpetual present? What does it mean to have a child, to nurture a new life as another fades away? These are some of the questions Kalanithi wrestles with in this profoundly moving, exquisitely observed memoir. Paul Kalanithi died in March 2015, while working on this book, yet his words live on as a guide and a gift to us all. “I began to realize that coming face to face with my own mortality, in a sense, had changed nothing and everything,” he wrote. “Seven words from Samuel Beckett began to repeat in my head: ‘I can’t go on. I’ll go on.’” When Breath Becomes Air is an unforgettable, life-affirming reflection on the challenge of facing death and on the relationship between doctor and patient, from a brilliant writer who became both.

This book was released on 2014-05-30 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An essential guide to designing, conducting, and analyzing event-related potential (ERP) experiments, completely updated for this edition. The event-related potential (ERP) technique, in which neural responses to specific events are extracted from the EEG, provides a powerful noninvasive tool for exploring the human brain. This volume describes practical methods for ERP research along with the underlying theoretical rationale. It offers researchers and students an essential guide to designing, conducting, and analyzing ERP experiments. This second edition has been completely updated, with additional material, new chapters, and more accessible explanations. Freely available supplementary material, including several online-only chapters, offer expanded or advanced treatment of selected topics. The first half of the book presents essential background information, describing the origins of ERPs, the nature of ERP components, and the design of ERP experiments. The second half of the book offers a detailed treatment of the main steps involved in conducting ERP experiments, covering such topics as recording the EEG, filtering the EEG and ERP waveforms, and quantifying amplitudes and latencies. Throughout, the emphasis is on rigorous experimental design and relatively simple analyses. New material in the second edition includes entire chapters devoted to components, artifacts, measuring amplitudes and latencies, and statistical analysis; updated coverage of recording technologies; concrete examples of experimental design; and many more figures. Online chapters cover such topics as overlap, localization, writing and reviewing ERP papers, and setting up and running an ERP lab.
